My 2 yr old boy and my 5 yr old girl are going to be sharing a room, and I want to make it special for them. I would like to know how I should decorate their room. There carpet is a dark navy blue, and thats all I know. I can paint any color, I am thinking of getting them bunk beds. I was also thinking maybe doing like a medieval room, knights and dragons for my son and princesses for my daughter. I seen this idea online, but have no idea where to go from here. ANY IDEAS, even if its not a medieval room I will take anything.Any suggestions will help, colorof the walls and all. Thank you!!!

What can I do next?

An ocean theme would work too. You could keep it simple with 'water' color paint and decals that can be removed later. You can usually find fish, maybe even mermaids and pirate ships. Accents for the room should be easy to find (seashells, nautical). Have fun! I love doing a kids room, it's easy to go crazy with themes.

Oh, and stars on the ceiling would be fun - glow in the dark or a light display variety.

My son has a race car bed, but he loves pretending it's a ship sometimes. In a ocean room I would try to make the bed/bunks look like a ship somehow.

I also have a boy girl room combination. My son is 3 and daughter is 7 and they have been sharing a room since my son was born. We decorated their room in stars and moons and painted the walls yellow even before either of them were born so we wouldn't have to change it whatever sex our children were. We did get bunkbeds and each of the kids have their own favorite bedspreads. It doesn't really matter to me that one is into carebears and the other Bob the Builder. Most of the time they get along fine and enjoy having each other for company at night.

Hi C..
When I was young I shared a room with my brother. You need to figure out how long they will be in the same room because you may want to get more of a generic look rather than too girlish or boyish.Girls will tend to go over to the boy side on colors and themes and many boys certainly love pink( my son did at age 2-4) but once they get older they change their minds(When they think it is a girl color or thing) so just be aware. Growing up my parents kept it somewhat generic.Back then it was a lot of green. However we hadout own shelves to fill up with our own fav knicknacks.
Good luck! L.

When my boy/girl twins shared a room I painted the walls white. The flooring was hard wood so nothing needed for that. On my daughter's side we did flowers on the walls, bedding, and throw rug by the bed. On my son's side we did the same using cars and trucks. The closet was divided in half so it was easy to keep track of their clothing.

I love your medieval idea. Very creative. Get your kids to add their own touch to the room and it'll be a winner for sure. Just don't go overboard because in a few years they'll outgrow the theme so you want to make it easy to change a couple things and reinvent the room.
