Do you live some place where you could take a small group of girls on a sleigh ride??/ I think that would be sooo cool and unusual. then back some where for hot cocoa and cookies. You could buy each kid cute cheap mittems and fill them with goodies.

Probably the best way to keep costs down in to keep the guest list small.

HAve fun.

Another idea (that we might do with my 7 year old on her next birthday) is to do a movie night/PJ party without an actual sleepover. The girls can come in PJs and bring a pillow and/or blanket/sleeping bag if they want. You could do a little craft of some kind - either one that fits with your movie or just that your daughter would enjoy. You could just do pizza (even the frozen mini pizza bagels would work), nuggets, hot dogs (pigs in blankets might be fun), or something similar that would be easy, cheap, and kid friendly. Again you could tie in to your movie or other theme with cute names that make sense. Then the girls can snuggle up on the floor and watch a movie, have some popcorn, etc. Then finish up with some cake. Depending on how many girls, your time table, etc. you could always add some other activities or games (painting toe nails, having a mini dance party, etc. would probably be popular). The girls would then go home to sleep in their own beds. Easy, pretty inexpensive, and fun.

Hi D.,
We recently went to an "American Idol" themed party that was so cute! The decorations were pretty inexpensive...i think birthdayexpress.com has "American Idol" specific deco. The karaoke machine set the theme up perfect! GOOD LUCK!

Color Me Mine does parties for kids. Or maybe have your daughter invite a couple friends to go to the mall to get their nails and hair done?

well i did not have a party for my daughters seventh.....however for her sixth one had a swimming party (summer baby) and the other is having a roller skating party. Here in York parents with sneaker are allowed in for free to help assist the younger children. After I had that booked a friend of mine mentioned about a Tea party at a Tea house in Thomasville on 8.oo a child and you provide nothing they do the cake and everything.
If you have questions feel free to email me back.

You can do a tea party where the little girls come in dresses. I am thinking about that for my soon to be seven year old. I figure it is not too much money to make some kid friendly tea sandwiches and cupcakes. My daughters bday is dec 7 and other daughter the 29th.... i am very familiar with the low budget bdays around christmas :-)

a princess party is an easy party to do on a budget. you can make little tea sandwiches by cutting the crust off of the bread and cutting into small triangles - pb and j, cucumber and cream cheese, turky and cheese, etc. you can have the little girls wear princess dresses, or just a pretty dress they have. if you go to michael's or ac moore you can buy little wooden jewelry boxes, sequins, and other sparkly things for the girls to decorate their jewelry boxes with. you can get princess wands and tiaras from a local party store and "crown" each girl as they come in the door. the girls can play "pin the crown on the princess", princess pinata. they can also make "magic wands" by using long pretzel rods, dipping in chocolate and then rainbow sprinkles. just let them dip half for less mess. the list can go on and on, depending on what you can afford. Oh, and don't forget to go to the dollar store and buy purple, pink, and yellow crepe paper and go to town decorating a chair for the princess and hanging crepe paper around the house. It's cheap, but looks great. There are also princess music cd's that you can be playing while the party is going on. Good luck and I hope I helped.

How about some sort of Princess party, with the main activity being making sweet treats? My sister bought me a cookbook last year called the Princess cookbook with lots of cute ideas. Maybe you could ask 1 or 2 moms to stay and help out, make finger sandwiches and cookies and some sort of "fancy" punch?

Hi D.,
When my youngest turned six, we had a Cinderella Ball for her. What a huge success!!! Everyone loved it. It was easy to put together and the girls loved being at a "ball".
We made a three tiered cake (easy) and placed a small cinderella doll on top, you could also use a small plastic crown. Every girl came in a ball gown...(their own creation, with lots of costume jewelry and their hair in up do's....soooo cute!!
We had ballroom music and they were treated like true princeses. I found little plastic high heels and filled them with candies for favors.
Each one was the bell of the ball!

One year for my daughters birthday we did a traditional birthday party with old fashioned party games, pin the tail on the donkey, piching pennys, etc.. I also had them decorate their own cupcakes instead of having a cake-- bought a few different jars of premade icing and different sprinkles and they had lots of fun. Instead of making food I pre-ordered McDonalds and my husband brought it to the house-- it was easy.

I think the advice from Tracy M. was good. Have the girls come over dressed up and have little tea sandwiches and tea and have the table set all cute. Also I know someone that did this and had a craft shortly after lunch (you can get cheap ones from dollar store) and then they had the parents over early and the girls did a fashion show to music for them. You could like doll them up a bit and do light make-up and nails-that would be fun. Good luck!

Hi D.,
What about a party for the girls at your house where you can fix their hair, paint their fingernails and toenails, etc. Like a beauty parlor-type thing? Some salons even will do these parties for the girls--maybe your local salon can give you a price per person. If you only invite 6 friends (for a total of 7--I've always heard the guests=age of party kid too) it might not be too expensive. You could do little favor bags with hair clips and (cheap!) nail polish, nail file, etc.

D.,
How about a tea party? I had a friend do this and it was a big hit for all the girls. Use real tea cups and fancy settings and have them 'dress up.' You can have a nice cake and even some places will make a ea cup shaped cake.
Good luck

Hi!
My friend just had a party at Duffield's. The kids could ride ponies ($3 per kid I think) and pick pumpkins. It was really cute and fun!

My Mom, who was a great educator, always told me to invite no more children than your child's physical age -- because it works better. Younger children don't actually "play" with a group -- they play in ones and twos, and as they grow older, they learn to do things in groups.

We've done the chuckie cheese thing, parties at the YMCA so the kids could swim, parties at home, and parties at the local zoo. Bowling is one of the cheapest alternatives, for a party somewhere else. Roller skating is also on the lower end of the price range, but the rinks are loud, so if there is't a separate room for the party, it's LOUD and you have to shout to be heard ALL THE TIME. I've found that the parties I've done at home aren't really all that much cheaper than going somewhere, as long as that somewhere isn't horribly expensive. When we had parties at home, I bought stuff to make crafts and things to do, and that drives up the price. So after that, I kind of gave up and went back to doing parties somewhere else.

Whatever you do, be sure it's something that you will enjoy. Nothing is better than having Mom happy -- if YOU have fun at the party, the kids will also have fun. Where we live, there's a farm store that does corn mazes, and I don't think that's terribly expensive -- it is kind of weather dependent, unless you go to walmart and buy 1.00 ponchos for everyone in the event of rain. But I think that would be fun. Trouble is my family has aged enough that I'm the only one who thinks it'd be fun !

Good luck !
