I've played a game where everyone is given a clothes pin at the beginning of the shower to put on their shirt or nametag. You are not allowed to say the word "baby" (or some other often used word). If you catch someone saying baby you get their clothes pin and any others that they have taken from other people. Whoever has the most clothes pins at the end of the shower wins a prize.

Another game is a baby version of the price is right. you buy basic everyday baby items and have people guess how much you paid for them. Then you see who is the closest. The mother to be gets to keep all of the items.

When pregnant w. my first I had cut out squares of pastel fabrics and everyone embroidered a square, then we had a quilt made. It was a fun activity-different than the usually cheesy shower games, and you end up with a beautiful keepsake. My daughter is 5 now and loves it!

I have done this for several of my friends and it is sure to bring laughs as well as tears. Plus it makes a wonderful keepsake. What you want to do is get with your friend's husband,(with out her knowing!!), and ask him some questions and video tape it. Then at the baby shower you tell the mom to be you have a surprise for her and gather everyone around the T.V.. Then you ask her the same qestions you asked her husband and then you say- well lets go to the video and see if your answers match his. Some sample questions are: how did you come up with the baby's name? How did you tell your husband you were pregnate? If the baby's crying and your husband goes to check and finds the baby had a poop explosion did he say he would A)sneak away and let you deal with the baby B)happily change the baby C)call for help! And then the last question you want to be serious so you ask: What did your husband say when asked why he thought you'd make a great mom. After each question you go to the video, pausing it while you ask her the next question. The key is to make it a Secret!!!! So she is surprised. You can even throw in there a question like why does he think his/her parents will be good grandparents if you know they are going to be at the shower. They always love that. Then someday this will make a cute keepsake for her to show the baby when he/she is older.

Good luck!

Have you ever heard of a dice game called LCR? It's super fun, and we played a modified version of this game at my last baby shower. Normally you play for money, where each guest puts in 3 $1 bills in the pot for each round, but with our baby shower version we played for jars of baby food. So, all guests brought 3 jars of baby food. We played 3 rounds of the game (in normal LCR, it's a new batch of money; with this version, we just re-used the same jars). The winner of each round (i.e. the one who ended up with all of the jars of baby food at the end), got a special prize provided by the hostess (candles or similar), and then the mom-to-be gets to keep all of the jars of baby food when the game is over. It's quick, mindless, fun, and has a LOT of laughter! If you're not familiar with LCR, just let me know and I can explain it further. It requires special dice, but can be easily purchased online for about $5-$7.

At my shower we played a gross yet funny game. My hostesses melted different kinds of candy bars in diapers and we all were broken up into two teams. Each diaper was numbered and we had to guess what kind of candy bar was melted in the diaper. We could smell, taste, look.. etc. It was pretty funny and even my grandma played!

I went to a coed baby shower for a coworker recently and they had a couple of neat and different games. We all know the game where there is a table full of baby items, they give everyone a few minutes to look at the items, cover them up and then have to write down as many things as they remember, whoever has the most wins! Well...this game is very similar, but with an unexpected twist. You have the pregnant mom walk around with a tray full of baby items. Your wording is something like this "- mom's name- is going to walk around with this tray of baby items, take a good look" So everyone is trying to take all the items on the tray in, while people are chitchating, you have Mom leave the room casually. While she stands outside the door you say okay NOW, answer the following questions. And all of the questions are about the MOM not about the tray of goodies. (what color is her necklace, her toenail polish, shirt, is she wearing glasses, what color are her eyes, etc). Its funny because everyone at my table instantly started writing down baby items and then heard the twist! Ask about 7-10 questions...

I've thrown maybe 20 baby showers in my past and maybe at 1 we played games...I hate the game part...so...everyone still got a small parting gift..and we spent that time chatting and opening gifts...passed around a small "journal" for everyone to write in..wishes, dreams etc for the new baby. Pre-printed number 1-10 on separate pieces of paper, put into envelopes and the first 10 people thru the door pick an envelope..that person then must write a letter to the baby for him/her to open (w/help) and read...#1 would be 1st birthday and so on.
Short on cash, that's a cheap one you only need a few pieces of paper and envelopes..another cheap one is a picture frame w/an autograph matte, have everyone write something then take a group picture of everyone at the shower. I just know I can't stand the games and the people I thru the showers for didn't like games either.

At my shower we all painted, drew, and markered butterflies on various 4 x 4 cardstock that I then put in frames for my little gilrs room. They were all differant and it looked great because the colors were all in the room theme. I thought about putting them on a memory board also. You can use the idea for any decor and the memory board is good for dispaying differant photos, cards, pictures, while not disturbing the decor if she has a certain motif she doesn't want destracted from. We had a great time chatting while we did the craft though. I also read about a blessing wreath from another mamasourcer. She had each pearson write a blessing on pretty paper she then tied in a circle with craft wire.

I have done a really fun game called "Maternity Match Game". You make a big board that you can hang cards on... say 4 across by 4 down. Then you make 2 each of cards that say "doctor bills, epidural, boys names, girls names, conception, breast feeding, hospital bills, unbilical cord, etc". Guests take turns trying to match the candy names and as they do, they win the corresponding candy:
doctor bills = 100,000 grand
epidural = life savers
boys names = mike & ike
girls names = baby ruth
conception = skor
breast feeding = milky way
unbilical cord = twizzlers
OBGYN = butterfinger

This has been a HUGE success at every shower I've ever done it at. People always want the clues so they can make it themselves.

Also, I like the "gift bingo" game....everyone gets a blank bingo card and fills out the squares with items they think she'll get as a gift. Then as she's opening, they mark their cards off. I like this one because the mommy-to-be should be the center of attention and sometimes guests are chatty and don't pay attention to her opening gifts. This way everyone has fun during the gifts.

Hope these help!

For my sister in laws shower, I had a package of onsies that I gave to each team to decorate with fabric paint. Mommy went to another room while they "designed" them. She then chose a winner, but she still had 5 creatively cute onsies! She loved it and it was very personal. Oh, make sure they are on hangers before they design them since it takes 24 hours to fully dry. And you dont want to mess anything up trying to put it on a hanger.

Hi L.,

I didn't get to read all the other posts, but here is what they did for me at my baby shower. Everyone gathered around me, I was sitting in the center on a chair. The game was called "Guess the Baby Food." Then I was blind folded and I had to taste 3 different baby foods and guess what they were. If I got them right I received a small gift and if I got one wrong, which I did they stuck my hand in a diaper that they had put something yucky looking in it. For example I think they mixed mustard along with some of the baby food. It was pretty fun.

The most hysterical baby shower game I have ever witnessed was called "Don't Let Your Water Break". Everyone at the shower (except the person it was for) split into two teams, and each person was given a water balloon. They had to "run", one at a time (and against the other team) about 15 feet to where the pregnant mom sat, and then back to the starting line with the water balloon between their knees. It was a relay, and I think the winning team may have gotten a prize, but what I really remember from that game is how hard I laughed.

At other baby showers, the hostess has asked the attendees to cut a length of string or toilet paper to fit precisely around the pregnant mom's belly. Then there's trying to come up with as many boy or girl names (if they already know the sex of the baby) from the words THE and the new baby's last name. And once we were given a list that had a bunch of animals listed in a column down one side and each person had to fill in the name of the female and the baby (i.e., FOX and the female is a VIXEN and the baby is a KIT).

One thing we did was get several plain white onsies or diaper shirts and had all kinds of paints, stencils ect and decorated them for the mom to be. It was supposed to be an activity for the children that were invited but all the grownups painted them also. They all were original and turned out cute.

I have done a guess the baby item game using the baby's name. You go to Target and purchase one baby item for each letter of the baby's name. For example...
A-apple sauce (babyfood)
L-lullaby CD
L-links (baby toy)
I-ibuprofen (infant)
S-socks
O-onesies
N-nail clippers
Then you put each item in a cute paper bag (you can get solid colors at party stores) and glue the letter for each item on front. Then pass the items around the room. People can shake and squeeze the bags, but cannot open them and try to guess whats inside. The person that guesses the most wins.
It also makes a cute decoration on a mantle before you play the game.

this is more of a craft than a game. at a recent baby shower, some of my friends bought several packs of different sized onesies and some cute iron-on appliques (about $1.99 each at michaels). they also had some fabric paint and stamps, but those did not seem to turn out as well. everyone got to make the new baby a cute onesie and sign the bottom with a sharpie. they turned out really cute and although a little hestitant at first, everyone ended up having a good time and the new mom got a ton of adorable onesies.

I like the idea of haveing each guest design a special scrapbook page for the baby's scrapbook... its a fun activity for the shower and the mom will have a wonderful memory from it.
its also fun to have recipes given from each guest for family meals to add to a recipe box for the mom to be. many of us get board with the same ol same ol and need new ideas for cooking.

If you need any fun unique custom party favors, stationary, diaper cake and more just give me a call.

My sister recently went to a baby shower. They had a rubber ducky theme. The hostess teaches preschool and brought home a toy water table from the school, but you could probably use something like a plastic swimming pool, too. She got lots of different rubber duckies-- i think from Oriental Trading Company. They had "duck races" by shooting the ducks with water guns to move them through the water. She said it was really fun!

This has been a favorite of mine:
Fill a basket or baby bath tub with numerous items..i.e.
baby bath, wash clothes, lotion, pins, wipes diapers, onesie, etc. etc. and then have the "Momma" carry the basket/tub in the room full of guests. Let them all take their time to inspect the the contents. Have the mother leave the room and then asked the guests to describe "the Momma". What she is wearing, how she looks any special things (rings, jewelry, lipstick) whatever they noticed about her. This is always alot of fun and catches them way off guard.
Have a great time, I have always loved baby-showers!

Go to Orientaltrading.com. They have cool shower games. Like Who knows mommy best, etc. Also, I just heard of one called what's in your purse. Make a list of about 15 things, and at the party everyone tries to find them in their purse. Whoever gets the most wins. We did a babyfood taste test at my neice's shower last weekend. It's a lot of fun, watching the faces as they taste the food. Most new mothers do well, grandmothers don't. You can get two baby dolls, and have a diaper changing contest. That's fun if you are doing a couples shower.
Good luck!

There's a fun "what's in your purse" game that I saw done at a party once, but never before that. The hostess picks a letter randomly for you to find anything in your purse that starts with that letter. The first one who finds something gets a point. It's fun to see what everyone comes up with, especially if there are people at different stages of life in the group.

We also did something once where when there was a prize given, it was another gift given to the mom-to-be rather than to the person who "won" it. We tried to pick prizes that went with the games we did, like baby spoons for baby food identification games.

Oh, and another game I saw that was fun was a "what's in the diaper game" You smash up chocolate candy bars in the diapers and everyone has to figure out what it is. Makes you think a little differently about chocolate candy bars for a couple weeks, but it's fun.

Guess The Gerber's: (Materials - Gerber's infant food, pads of paper and pens). Take the labels off of the baby food jars and have the women at the baby shower guess the food (carrots, peas, sweet potato). Most fun to play up to 10 jars of different kinds of foods. If there is a tie, blindfold the women and have them taste one of the jars and guess the right flavor to win their prize

At a shower I went to recently, we had to drink an ounce of apple juice from a bottle and the first person to drink it all won a prize (not everyone participated - it was a tie breaker game.) I don't know who laughed the hardest - the ones trying to drink through the nipple or the ones watching the whole thing. One tip we learned - be sure to get nipples with the highest amount of flow - it was impossible to drink through small nipples.

This is soooo gross, but we played it at a shower I attended years ago.

You will need: 4 newborn diapers
4 different chocolate candy bars, such as Snickers, Baby Ruth, Three Musketeers, Milky Way-do you see where I'm going with this?!

Place a candy bar in each diaper, which has been labeled with a number. Place diaper and candy bar in the microwave and melt JUST until you can't tell what kind of candy bar it is.

Now the 'fun' begins. Pass each diaper around the room, allowing each guest to 'sniff' the diaper. The object of the game is to guess what kind of 'poo' you're smelling.

I told you it was gross. If you're planning a nice, refined baby shower, then you probably want to pass this one up. But, you asked, and I'm just sharing my pain...have fun!

At my baby shower, we played the Bubble Yum Baby game. It was SO much fun. Each person got a piece of Bubble Yum bubble gum. As I was opening gifts each person used the gum lliek playdoh and made a baby. The hostessees handed out toothpicks in case anyone wanted to draw a face on the baby. Then they wrote their name on an index card and placed that face down and put their bubble yum baby on top of it. I got to choose the winner. It was so neat to see how creative everyone got. I didn't read the other replies, so I don't know what others said, but at one of my baby showers, the hostess provided a bunch of different supplies to make a scrapbook and each person at the party decorated a page in their own unique way (while at the party), then she put the pages together to make a really nice scrapbook - and everyone signed their name at the bottom of the page so I know who decorated each one. I thought that was nice, especially since I'm not into scrapbooking and would never have made one for myself.

I recently hosted a baby shower and here are a couple things I did...
I played Babyshower Bingo with a slight twist - I used the internet to make bingo cards and in the squares I put down different items the mom-to-be could possibly receive as a gift (stroller, bottles, burpcloth, etc). Then I had the guests play their bingo cards as the mom opened her presents. This got everyone engaged and interested in the present opening part which tends to become boring after the first 20 gifts...

I also made a CD of songs (downloaded online) with the word "baby" in the title. Then we played name that tune. You can choose songs from all different music genres and times to get guests of all ages and backgrounds involved. It was funny when the mom's grandma guessed "Ice Ice Baby" before anyone else! And I gave the mom & dad-to-be the CD afterwards

You pass out 1 paper/plastic plates and a pen to all game participates. Then they place the plate on top of their heads and draw what they think the baby will look like. Mom to be picks the winner. They can't see what they are drawing and must "imagine" what they are doing is right. Most of the pictures that comes out look like Picasso but that part of the fun!

We had a ton of fun at a shower playing a game like "sculptorades" in Cranium. I made some soft dough (that didn't smell like play-doh - that would have made the mom-to-be barf!) and gave one batch to each of 2 teams. The rest of the game is kinda like charades, only the items to guess were baby-related and instead of acting out things, the players took turns 'sculpting' their clues (w/o talking; only gestures allowed had to involve moving the dough). The winning team was the first to shout out the correct word or phrase in a head-to-head format. Both the guys and the gals LOVED this game (& my husband liked it because neither sex got mocked).

I love baby showers...fun times. One thing that we do at our friends baby showers, is when someone wins a game they go to the "prize" table and pick something out for the Mom to be. It's the little stuff like paci's, nail clippers, bottle of lotion etc.
One game that we play is everyone writes down a baby/new parent question on a slip of paper(we used pink for questions) and collect them. Then have everyone write an answer to their question or an answer to a typical baby/new parent question on another slip of paper(we used blue for answers). Once that's done pass the bowl with the questions and then pass the bowl with the answers and then everyone reads the Q&A -it's really funny and I hope this made sense.
