Hi! My name is T. and I just moved to Lousiville from Concord, NC. I am looking for doctors. I need a good cardiologist, an internal medicine or family physician, a physical therapist and a dentist! I like physicians who listen well, are kind and are of course very knowledgeable in their field. I am on medication for depression, so someone who is knowledgeable in that area would be helpful too. I am on a tight budget so suggestions for local places to find good buys ie discount, thrift, etc. Are there any food co-ops in this area or discount groceries? I am interested in finding a church with a great youth group, contemporary worship and excellent Biblical teaching.

What can I do next?

A great place to find clothing is Unique thrift shop in the Portland area. I can find like new clothing for any member of my family for pennies on the dollar of what it would cost retail. It's such a large thrift store, I can basically go in with a list, and come out with what items I needed. Hope this helps, and welcome to the area!

Hi T. B!
Welcome to Louisville. I live in Sellersburg, Indiana and drive to Bardstown Road to work.
As far as discount stores, Wal-mart is about as discount as it gets around here. I don't know if you buy in bulk, but we have a Costco now and a Sam's club.
I know Northside Christian Church in New Albany, IN is supposed to have a good youth ministry and it's a fairly large Church. I have heard good things about it. I attend Restoration Christian Church(my kid's go to school there as well)and would love to have you visit if it's not too far.
I go to 21st Centuray Medicine in Clarksville for a family doctor. They are use holistic and allopathic medicine in their practice. I really like it. They help in so many more ways than just medicine. ###-###-####.
I only know of one cardiologist, but he sees my 6 yo daughter so I don't think that would help you.
I hope this helps. Please email me anytime. I will help anyway I can.
Can I ask if you have family here? Is that why you moved here?
Good to have you.
W. Morris
Sellersburg, IN

Welcome to Louisville T.. I have oly been here 4 1/2 years so I am still looking for some of the things you mentioned. However I did want to let you know we have lots of farmers markets. They are everywhere, I am sure there is one in Cresent Hill. You are also close to Costco they have some good buys. I am on medication for depression too and even thought you didn't ask. There is a very gifted and talented doctor named Gerald Huff,Phd although he is a psychologist and can't prescribe medicine he is very knowledgeable about mental health and other things in that area. I feel very lucky to have found him and that is why I am sharing the information. He is an older man who smokes a pipe and brings his dog with him to appointments. He always continues to educate himself plus he is very wise from living life. He is so good it's worth dealing with the pipe and dog.

As far as a church I just discovered a christian church called encounter. it is 2 12 years old and small but so far I like it a lot. There website is http://encounterencounter.org/

Good Luck with everything

T. B,

Welcome to Louisville! A good cardiologist is Dr. Licandro. A
church with a good youth group and welcoming members is Southeast Christian Church. They have all kinds of resources and support groups available. I am not a memeber but am seriously considering membership due to their open, helpful and supportive christian ministry.

Good Luck!!

I don't know about cardiologists or great youth groups, but I do have a fantastic dentist. His name is Dr. Elliot ###-###-#### and he really cares about his patients. A few years ago I had an issue with another dentist who refused to give me my x-rays after I complained about him canceling 2 appointments in a row last minute and not knowing if I could have Novacaine when breastfeeding, and Dr. Elliot redid my x-rays for free after the insurance said they would not pay for more. He was more concerned about fixing my tooth than making money. He also knew that Novacaine was fine for me and has never made me wait. Good luck figuring everything out. L-ville is a great city.

Oh yeah- I forgot to mention that Dr. E is located in the Kroger plaza on the corner of Hurstbourne Lane and Taylorsville Rd. You're going to get to know those 2 roads, I'm sure. You can get anywhere in L-ville in 20 minutes so it's not a bad trek.

I love my doctor--her name is Elizabeth Bates, and she recently moved to the Dupont area so she is not far from you. She may be able to help you out with the specialists also.

Welcome to Louisville!

Sorry if this posts twice I hit a button and everything disappeared!

For church/youth groups you should look into Southeast Christian Church. They will have activities/youth groups for all ages of your children. Their web site is www.southeastchristian.org/

If you mill your own wheat and bake your own bread, you should contact Edie at Hillview Farm online. If you google it you can find her. If you don't already do it, it is a bit of an inital investment, but well worth it! She can tell you all about it. She would also be able to help you find food co-ops.

Good Luck!

Hi T., Welcome to Louisville! I think you'll like it here. Unfortunately, I can only give one name - for a family physician - and that is Dr. Matt Rogers. He is located in the Jewish Medical Center at Breckinridge and Dupont Circle, phone ###-###-####. He is an excellent doctor, listens well, very caring man. I would highly recommend him. I don't think thats too far from you. My dentist is also great but she is in the Fern Creek area so I think that would be too far to travel from Crescent Hill. As for the church, if you find one, please post it! We are looking for the same thing and find many w/ two out of three but so far not all (of course, you are on opposite end of Louisville, so maybe it's right around the corner from you! :) As for discounts, there are some great consignments around you....for womens and your daughters, there is the Clothes Horse in St. Matthews (Shelbyville Road near Breckinridge - you'll have to look them up because they are kind of tucked in between roads). They are small but lots of good buys on clothing/shoes/household items and they close every year sometime in July/Aug so now would be the closeout sales (got several church dresses there this time last year for a few dollars each - nearly new!) I don't know of any discount groceries, but if you watch the two major groc - Meijer and Kroger, they have some good weekly specials and they both double coupons. Oh, and if theres a Big Lots near you, sometimes they get good stuff in there from grocery overstocks. Hope this helps! Good luck! J.

HI
There is a church on HWY 22 (7114 W) in Crestwood/PeWee Valley that I would recommend; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (lds.org). This week is girls camp and I think boy scout camp is coming up soon. The youth are amazing.
There are Sunday meetings starting at 9am and 1pm. Visitors are welcome.
As for Dentists, there is a great one in Middletown; Karen Nation. But if that is too far away, I would try the Mortenson Family Dental office by Tinseltown/Target.
Good luck! and welcome to Louisville!!
