I just found out that our Pediatricians (Drs. Southerland and Yonker) are closing their practice in July. I loved them both and really felt that they gave my son excellent care. Can anyone recommend a Pediatrician in Sarasota/Lakewood Ranch? I want someone who is really caring and of course well qualified. Please include WHY you like a particular doctor and if the rest of the physicians in the group are good. If there is anyone to "avoid" or if you've had a bad experience, that might be helpful, too. (Btw, we have United HMO for insurance.) Thank you in advance! This really was sad - I had hoped these two would take care of my son as he grew up.

All 3 of my girls have been going to her for YEARS! We just started using Dr Southerland for my oldest as her GYN. Uggghhh....this is frustrating!! We are now going to Dr Featherman because he was highly recommended by our friends in the nursing and law enforcement community. (Husband is a police officer.) Seems EVERYONE we know goes to him! I called Dr Yonkers office this morning and the receptionist said that Dr Southerland IS going to open her own practice, but not sure where or when. I am sure we will visit her in her new location! Good luck to you!

Dr. Ted Meyer (Dr. Ted's Circus) on Mound (41) is our pediatrician. We (as in: my husband and I and BOTH kids) love him. He's great with the kids and great with adults. We had a long string of peds that were good with the kids/condescending with adults or good with the adults/made you wonder if your child was the first kid they'd ever seen (!). Dr. Ted is awesome. He's knowledgable, supportive of parent rights and "mom/dad know the kid best" attitude. He doesn't try to make you feel stupid, doesn't talk down to you, gives your child a TON of attention, etc. All of the things we looked for in almost 5 years of raising kids until we finally found someone who did it all. Also, appointments are easy to get and QUICK. No sitting in the waiting room for an hour with a sick (or well) kid. Nurses are great, etc. Good luck!

My kids go to Dr. Featherman. So do the kids of most of the moms I know. I really like him and so do my kids. A friend of mine has taken her children since not long after his practice opened, her oldest being 19. She has nothing but praise, and she is quite particular about things. We like him because he is knowledgeable, straight forward, and good with kids. There are 3 other doctors in the practice, all good. My cousin uses Dr. Briggs Carrol for her twins (in the same practice) and is quite happy. I have always been able to get an appointment the same day if one of my children has become ill. There are both sick and well waiting areas. The practice (Comprehensive Childcare Associates) is located on Cattleman Road between Bee Ridge and Bahia Vista. Their phone # is ###-###-####. Best of luck in choosing a new physician.

I was just as shocked at you. I have twin 6 year old boys and have been with Dr Yonker the entire time. She has had different associates come and go but I really liked Dr. Southerland. I honestly don't understand what happended there? I am looking as well. I have started looking but I haven't figured out what to do. I have an even bigger challenge. My husband is a Chiropractor and both my boys are on the spectrum so we have chosen not to immunize, therefore it's even harder to find a pediatrician who will work with us and honor our decision.
