Seeking Pediatrician in Anaheim Hills Area

I am looking for referrals to a good pediatrician in the Anaheim Hills area, preferably in the center on Anaheim Hills Road, if anyone goes there. I want a doctor who will not treat me like some paranoid, over-protective parent. My last pediatrician thought I was crazy about my son's sleep issues and kept telling me to let him cry it out...it ended up he had silent reflux and I did not get help from a specialist until I, myself, diagnosed him after extensive research. And even then, I had to insist on getting him to write me a referral for the insurance company. The doctor even told me to "stop reading so much"! The nerve. The GI specialist agreed that my son had reflux, and we took care of the problem.

I would also like a doctor who will respect my vaccination decisions. I have two boys, ages 5 and 17 months, who have both been vaccinated on schedule to date, but I don't want to get the MMR. I want a doctor who will respect that and not give me a lecture or guilt trip about my personal decisions. Thank you so much for any referrals and information!

What can I do next?

I love our new pediatrician. Dr. Elsa Aguilar-Arbues. She acknowledges my concerns and gives me the referrals I ask for (which get approved very quickly), but also lets me know when she thinks we should wait and not overmedicate.
We had switched from a pediatrician who didn't want to take much action for my daughter's reflux and the medical group didn't authorize anything.

She is in the Children's Medical Group at 500 Anaheim Hills Rd. (corner of A.H. and Nohl Ranch). ###-###-####
Good luck.

Yvonee... although our Pediatrician is not in Anaheim Hills, he is in Yorba L. and not far from you off Yorba L. Blvd. and Prospect. His name is Dr. John Kraemer and I was a Health Care Administrator for 15 year so I can be critical of providers. He by far is top of my list! My son is now 13 and 6' but I still take him to Dr. Kraemer and will until he's 18. I have referred about 6 friends to him and they ALL loved him. When we switched plans I made such a fuss that it had to be one that covered Dr. Kraemer- the carrier added him! He has the best bed side manner and really addresses the child not talk over them when they are at that age to understand. He sits and listens before he does anything and takes all of what you have to say in consideration. It's hard for me to place full confidence in another when it comes to my kids but I can do that with Dr. Kraemer. I promise you, you will love him! He's a part of St. Jude Medical Group and there are several other peds in that office so the coverage is excellent! They have extended hour coverage as well. By the time you leave the office your prescriptions are email to the pharmany of your choice and each visit he refers to his lap top in each exam room to review your child's history and is fully updated. I consider Dr. Kraemer to be a rare true professional and trust you will as well. It's worth the short drive to his office. His staff is wonderfuly, in time they will get to know your name and that of your child and any specific needs you have. Best wishes!

I personally don't have a pediatrician to refer you to but if you go to www.tacanow.org and then to Resources, you will find a long list of doctors who believe in a smaller list of vaccines for children AND based on what the child will be able to handle. These are called DAN doctors (Defeat Autism Now) and they will respect what you have to say about your child.

Nothing makes me madder than a doctor who lets his ego get in the way of treating a child. You are probably dealing with a doctor who does not appreciate a mom telling him no to his schedule of shots, how dare she do that!

For others that are reading this, please make sure YOU have done the research on vaccinations for YOUR child. The AAP recommended schedule of shots for children is too many, too soon. Here are sites and books that I always recommend for people to start their research:

I have 3 kids ages 2-7. and we also see Gladstein/Koutures. the 2 dr's are very different in personalities, and the way they talk to kids. i like both of them for different reasons. But, that practice saved my son's life. The staff is 100% professional, and on the ball. we see lots of Dr's, and other than his neuro surgeon I cant say that about any other office and they have zero turnover in staff. Seriously, as long as we have been going there (since birth w/ my oldest) No one has left-they have added 1 nurse.

Definitly look for a dr that is affiliated w/ CHOC. you can go on the CHOC website (choc.org) and search for a doc.
You will have hard time finding Dr's that don't want to vaccinate. Remember, they are dr's-they have seen the worse. You need a dr that you feel comfortable going to. Call the office and ask what the dr's feelings are on immunizations. I would be surprised if there is any dr that doesn't think they are a good idea, that will not try to talk you into them. it's like a fireman not thinking smoke detectors are a good idea.

good luck

Our pediatricians are in Anaheim Hills. We have three children ages 6-1 and we love them. They are open every day of the year including weekends and holidays. I honestly do not know their stance on vaccinations but you could certainly call their office and ask.

Y.,

I am in Anaheim Hills and would like to know who you have used - so I can avoid them. My son is 3 months, so I don't have a ton of experience with our pedoatrician, but he came recommended to us from a mother of 3 boys. So far we have been pleased with all the doctors in his office - Dr. Iseri. He is in the center on Anaheim Hills Road. If I were you, I would go and interview them.

Good luck.

HI Y.,

I take my three children to Dr. Annette Johnson at the medical building on Anaheim Hills Road. She is the 3rd pediatrician I have been to because like you our previous doc always said everything will go away let it run its course well things wouldn't and that prompted me to find a new doc. A friend told me about her. My kids and I love Dr. Johnson! I feel that she really listens and does not hesitate to run that extra test to make sure nothing is wrong.

We live just up the road from the medical center at 500 S. Anaheim Hills Rd where you'll find the Drs mentioned here (Johnson, Iseri, Gladstein/Kotoures). We've seen them all, and it's mostly been insurance issues that have caused us to change. We see Dr Iseri now because his office takes CalOptima.

While we respect Drs Gladstein and Kotoures, our son was misdiagnosed back in 2002/2003 when we brought up issues with our oldest (born 1999, now 10). We suspected an autistic trend, and he was later diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Dr Kotoures rebuffed our concerns and ignored the symptoms, leaving us very frustrated and not knowing where to turn for answers. It was early in the process, and our son's behavioral issues were only just getting started... enough at the time, though, to warrant further investigation.

Dr. Anette Johnson, our next Ped., saw the concerns right away and steered us in the direction to a formal diagnosis and subsequent therapies. We would still be seeing here if our own insurance/employment situation would allow it. She also helped with our second son, now 5, who was born with a congenital defect (missing an ear, called "microtia"). We definitely recommend Dr Johnson for your young ones.

We have Dr Iseri now, but have only seen a Dr there once, so it's early to tell how things will go.
