I have a 11-month old son whose walking and I no longer have anyone to care for him while I'm working. I have considered leaving my job to stay at home but my job gave me a unique opportunity to bring my son to work with me. I have my apprehensions but before I decide are there any moms who are successfully doing this? If so, what are the advantages/disadvantages and do you have any tips for me. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I decided to try it out and so far things have been great. The morale at my workplace is up and the staff say that my son brings joy to our office. I am so grateful to God for working things out, and to my job for being so flexible. Thanks to everyone for your advice it has been most helpful. He is on a schedule and I get a lot of work done during his naps. I still read to him, feed him, change him and all that stuff while managing to complete my work. The youth help out a great deal after school as well. Thank you to everyone, I think all jobs should do this parents!

I have been taking my 3 month old baby into work successfully for several weeks now. She loves being there because of all the stimulation, and everyone loves seeing her.

I think the only thing that made it possible for me was keeping her to a strict schedule.

There is a newish website about parenting and work with lots of great suggestions: http://www.parentingatwork.org/
A link from that is to http://www.babiesatwork.org/
which gives guidelines as to how to implement this idea, which may be useful to you.
Another good and inspiring resource is La Leche League's "Hirkani's Daughters," which features stories from mothers all over the world who found ways to work it out with babies and working. I think you'll be such a great example to younger single or childless women about the value of parenting, you'll be there for your child, and pave the way for the future.

Hi L.

I work from home and have a 15 year old (his in school during the day) and a 31/2 year old..my situation is a little different as I work from home...yes..I have to stop every 10 minutes because of interuptions..but I just plan around that..sometimes..I have to work til 11pm or get up at 4am just to get things done...it is very tough especially as kids begin to walk and get into things..if you can make your son apart of your work and include him..as he sit's up..plays with things...all the better

good luck

Hi,

I have a 15 month old son and need to get back to work or work from home. Any leads or ideas would be appreciated.

I have 15+ years of administrative asst. experience (am good at what I do) and I would love to work with children and/or non-profit groups.

If I could find a job where I could take my son with me or have him in daycare near by....that would be fabulous.

I've waiting 17 years for my son & I'd love to stay at home and raise him but I need to earn some money.....please share any leads/ideas.

Thanks,
Merianne

I think that both the youth and your baby could benefit from your opportunity! I say give it a try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If if doesn't work you can always quit. It sounds like a win, win situatuion!

wow really???? i'd jump at that opportunity. my only suggestion would be some type of contract or written agreement as to how your job will allow you to take care of your son and get work done at the same time.
