I am looking for "friends" for my 2 boys. They are 3 years and 14 months old both can walk and need to get out of the apartment more offten. I just moved to salinas at the end of March and have found that there is very little to do here for younger children. I would love to join a mother's group or a childrens gym or something. I've thought about the ymca but that is a long term commitment and I will only be here until September. Thank you for you comments and help in advance. R. P.

What can I do next?

I'm pretty sure you don't have to make a commitment, they have drop in days. Good Luck!

Hi R.,
Thought you might be interested in giving the Moms' Group I'm trying to form a try -- visit meetup.org to join/get additional details:

RSVP for First Outing/Community Treasure Hunt: Natividad Creek Park, Salinas

Initial gathering of moms and toddlers intrigued by creating a local Moms Meetup group...informal, casual opportunity to begin getting to know other moms & toddlers while experiencing Natividad Creek Park (see http://www.pps.org/pa... for background info on the park).

Best,
M.

Hi R.,

My 17 month old son and I would love to be friends with you and you boys. We live in North Salinas near Harden School and Target. I work out with Stroller Strides with my son out in the Toro Park area on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30. So, we are available for a possible playdate outside of those times. We live across the street from a couple of good parks within in walking distance.

Stroller Strides might be something for you to check out if you are interested in working out outdoors with your children. they have monthly and per class options that might meet your limited time frame needs while you are in Salinas. They have a weekly play group at the end of class on Fridays at a park in toro residential area.

Anyway, my name is J. and my son is Gary Tyler. I am 29 and a stay at home Mom as well. As I mentioned before, my son is 17 months and he is always on the go and usually pretty social with the other children at our stroller strides group. Let me know if you are interested in meeting up.

J.

There is a mom's meetup group in Monterey. It costs $12 for 6 months. I'm not sure how it is, as I live far away. I do belong to a mom's meetup group where I live and have made some very good friends for both me and my kids. My only recommendation is to avoid outings to Wild Things in Salinas. The people there are rude and it is definitely not a stroller friendly venue (there are paths, but good luck finding a place to see the animals in a large group).

My son and I go to a weekly baby gym at the Salinas Adult School located on Natividad Road. We have really enjoyed it. We also got it for free with a coupon. It's not a huge committment. If you can make it, great, if not, then that's fine too. You might want to check into the 12-18 movers and shakers group. right now my son is in the 6-12 month group. We get together weekly and they play for an hour and then the second hour is "circle time" and we sing songs and talk about a different topic each week. Not sure if the older babies follow the same routine, but the instructors are great...really friendly.

there is a phone number at the link above. there's always moms coming and going so i'm pretty sure they would let you join at any time. i'm definately going to do the next class when we are done with this age group.

There might also be a place where your 3 year old can do activities there while you do the younger baby group.
