I have been trying out the cakes at the local bakeries to get ready for my childs birthday and when I tasted Texas Star bakery, they were the best. They also do cupcakes and cupcake cakes. They are located in Hurst.
I am looking for a cute safari themed birthday cake for my son's 2nd birthday, but I don't want to spend a fortune! I am also looking for a delicious cake for my husband's 30th birthday. Any recommendations? I don't have time to go to bakeries and look through books and taste cake! Thanks!

My friend Laurie does cupcakes
Do you have a Costco near you? They have the best cake and for pretty cheap compared to grocery stores/bakeries. We love using them. I always go instore, but I believe you can order online and pick from themes that have pics of or call and order what you want. They are so good.
We bought a cupcake cake at Tom Thumb for my daughter's first birthday. I took in her invitation and they matched it perfectly... vines all around the edge and a little girl monkey hanging at the top. I got so many compliments on the both the look and taste of the cupcakes. We bought half chocolate and half white. The white was preferred and all gone by the end of the party. They can put any number of cupcakes together.
GL!
Hi K.,
Walmart, Target & Tom Thumb all have great yummy cakes at great prices.
Just make sure to get the "whipped" icing, NOT buttercreme....buttercreme is SO sweet and IMO, tastes awful.
I wouldn't recommend Krogers though, my sister bought a cake there that cost her $50, I got the exact same size cake at Walmart for $30.....pretty BIG price difference for the same size cake.
Take care!
I know you said you dont have alot of time, but I just bought a wonderful book titled "Hello, Cupcake" by Karan Tack and Alan Richardson. It is FULL of cup cake ideas and they are the cutest I have ever seen, maybe you could get an idea from there and take it to a bakery to show them what you want. Just an idea. I got it at our kids Scholastic book fair, and I just looked it up online you can order it from, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and I just found that they have a website, hellocupcakebook.com. You can get ideas on there too!!! Have fun
Try this book "Hello, Cupcake!" I saw this author on Martha Stewart then found her book in the store. These are amazing cupcakes using 2 sizes of cupcakes, candy, and frosting. It teaches you how to decorate using a plastic bag and tape. Yum!
If you are in Waxahachie, HEB has the best cakes ever. I have bought several and always have been happy. Lots of talent there and the taste - wonderful.
Have fun! C
Celebrity Bakery made a very large sheet cake that looked just like the invitation I took in as an example.
I used the Celebrity located at Watters Creek in Allen but there are several locations throughout the area.
Market Street is another suggestion.
You can't get a $100 quality cake for $25........
Sam's makes wonderful cakes/cupcakes and very inexpensive. They will match a picture as well. Kroger does the same for a tiny bit more.
I'm not sure where you live, but Willie May's Bakery in Plano is wonderful! They're located on the corner of Custer Rd and Park Blvd. It's that great old family recipe style of baking. They apparently did Elvis' wedding cake-just a fun fact. They do cupcakes, cakes, pies, cookies, and breads. They aren't too expensive either but are absolutely amazing!
