I had a question about teething. My daughter is going on 4 months pretty soon and right now she keeps putting her fingers and sometimes her whole fist in her mouth. She drools alot and gets anxious. I was wondering if that was a sign of teething?? I dont want to be giving her tylenol and i bought the baby orajel but it says for 4 months and older. She is my first baby so I wanted to know what are the signs of teething? I still think she's too young for it but I guess babies are growing up too fast now. :-( Any advice would be great! Thanks!
Thank you ladies! My fiancee bought little teethers oral pain relief gel for her and it worked. I will have to try Hylands tablets since I hear they're good! This is just the beginning since she isnt cutting any teeth yet, wish me luck! LOL

My son began cuting teeth very young. We got teething tablets and they work wonderful. They melt in there mouth and are completely safe. I was told that orajel will make the gum just harder for the teeth to come in. The signs that you are describing of the drooling and chewing on her fingers are exactly what my little one does. Good luck on the teething process.

My son is going through the same thing. I don't want to give him medicine yet either, so I give him a wet wash rag that I put in the fridge for awhile. He can hold it better than all of those teether's and it seems to help. I also rub his gums when they seem to hurt him. :)

Just a suggestion would be to use HYLANDS all natural teething tablets - your child could take the whole bottle and not hurt her.
To answer your question though - yes it sounds like teething. My daughter started about the same age. She is now 2 1/2 and has her full mouth of teeth, lol... Lucky be though, she has not found out they can be used as a weapon.
The teething tablets are wonderful and I felt much better giving her all natural things instead of tylenol or anything else. She loved them and when her teeth hurt and she was a bit older she would come tell me she needed medicine for her mouth, lol

She's not too young to start teething, and drooling was always a sign with my babies. I wouldn't give her any medicine unless she gets really fussy.

That usually is a sign of teething, but not always. Both of my kids did that from 4 months on. They didn't get teeth until 13 months!! It was so irritating when people told me to give them tylenol because they were teething when I knew NOTHING was coming in! If you can feel teeth under the gums with your finger, give tylenol or use the gel. If you don't feel anything, don't. A good way to see how close the teeth are....shine a flash light close to the gums. You can see straight through them. (Enjoy the tantrum while you hold her down to see). :) Do whatever your mommy instinct tells you to do. It's usually right! Good luck

Those are signs of teething and also discovery of their hands. Babies feel better with their tongue than their hands so that is why everything goes in their mouth. I wouldn't do Tylenol unless she is visibly uncomfortable (crying, not sleeping. My baby went through that and right now at 9 months, he is going through it again, but this time he is definitely uncomfortable. Good luck!

That sounds like teething. It takes a wile for the teeth to come through and the best solution i have found are Hyland's homeopathic Teething tablets. I have learned that the orajel makes the gums tuffer so it takes longer for the tooth to come through where as the teething tablets take away the pain. Cold washcloths and rings help. Good luck.

My son has been drooling and chewing it seems like since he was born! He is now 7 months old and still no tooth! One thing's for sure, he's still a drool bag. I would hold off on the tylenol unless she is really unsettled. Try giving her cool teether rings and teether toys before medicine. I've always heard that oragel toughens gums. I usually avoid that as well. Babies naturally like to have things to chew on so just give her a lot of options. Good luck. Teething is a hard thing! I've already been through it with three girls! Feel her gums and see if they are hot or if you might feel a knot of a tooth trying to break through. If that is the case i would try tylenol. Oh! There are also teething tablets that help with fussiness. I believe that you can still get them at wal-mart, but if not, try a health food store. Blessings!!

Hi Rachel,
I am not going to be a lot of help but I am going through the same thing. My baby is almost 3 months (second child but a 5 year difference)and I really think she is teething. She is going to the dr today and I am going to ask them. I wanted to give her orajel too but saw the same as you, 4+months. I did give her some tylenol. The same amount she was getting from her shots, the first line. It has not really helped but that is what I did. A friend recommended teething tablets. They are supposed to dissolve instantly

Just a little tidbit of information I wanted to pass on....the reason orajel "works" is because it hardens the gums and makes the teeth harder to break through...essentially it lengthens the teething process. :( The things I have found that help are cool or frozen wet washcloths, cool (refrigerated) teething rings, and in my 8 month old daughters case, her stuffed bunnies ears.. lol GOOD LUCK! :)
Also, my daughter cut her first teeth before she was 4 months old...she is now 8 months and has 4 top teeth (cut all 4 in a 3 day period) and 2 bottom teeth.

Hi Rachel,
it sure sounds like teething; you can try those teething tablets ( Walgreens, CVS, HEB ) they helped our son alot when he was an infant.
He never got into the teething rings, and tried those tablets and they did wonders.

Sounds like she's teething to me. You could try putting a wet washcloth in the freezer and let her suck on it. Or maybe let her suck on small ice chips to sooth her gums.
Sometimes I even massaged the gums for them gently.
Poor thing...Good luck.

Try using Hyland's teething tablets. They are homeopathic and
help boost your child's immunity system to help itself. They really helped with my daughter. She is 6 months old and has been "teething" (drooling lots) since she was 3 months old. She doesn't have any teeth yet! The doctor said it's pressure in the gums that causes them achiness and fussiness and all the extra drool. And, as the other moms noted, they are discovering their sweet little hands! :) I feel better about
giving her the teething tablets rather than tylenol. They really do help too! She was fussy and achy, but she sleeps well now and is just a happy baby. She still has all the drool though! The tablets can be found at HEB in the baby aisle usually up high on the shelf and they're only about $3 a bottle. Hope this helps... it really helped me! I got the advice from helpful moms here.

I have a 2 year old and 1.5 yr old. Those sure sound like signs of teething. My first born got his 2 first teeth when he was three months old. Some babies are actually born with teeth. So I don't think she's too young. Mine like chewing on a warm washcloth or biters bisquits. Good luck!

Hi there. I think the teething tablets work great. I know what you mean though. you don't want to be giving drugs when that may not be the case! The teething tables are all natural and wont' hurt a thing. You can give them 2-3 tablets like 4 times a day. You can get them in the baby section at grocery stores. Hope this helps!

My daughter started chewing on everything she could fit in her mouth at about three months. She is almost five months now and has two little teeth on the bottom. It is normal for the chewing and drooling. I would only give Tylenol if she is crying a lot or not nursing as usual. As for Orajel, my doctor said to not use it because it is not tested on infants, it is just rated for dosage for adults and divided for ages. Make sense? There is no proof that it does harm but I decided on three of my children it was not worth the chance.

Sounds like teething to me. You can always try a cold, wet washcloth or one of those teething rings after putting it in the fridge to see if that helps. My oldest didn't teeth until 6 mos and Tylenol was the ONLY thing that made him feel better. My youngest is 12 weeks and has started teething! The doctor said it IS possible this early. Also my doc. said oragel would be ok for my 12 week old so should be fine for your 4 mo old.

Rachel,
That is a definate sign of teething. My daughter, now 12 mo. old, used to do that a lot to the point she would gag herself. The best thing at this age is definately the orajel and teething rings. I have also been told that a pacifier helps relive the pain and pressure as well. It will pass but unfortunately there is not much more you can do for her at this age. Contact your peditrician for more information on giving her a pain reliver. Hope I have been helpful. I wish you and your daughter luck.

Hi Rachel,
I'm also the first time mom of a 4 month old. My son is doing the exact same thing! I spoke to our pediatrician and he said that this could go on for months and it is a sign that he will be getting his teeth but it could still take awhile. I'm not going to give him anything unless he looks like he's in pain. I was told by my doctor to be very careful about giving tylenol haphazardly to babies under 1 year old as it could make him sick. Let's keep in touch because we appear to be in the same boat. Also, what do you do for childcare? I work from home and am looking for a drop in place for when I have to run errands or go to the dentist, hairdresser, etc. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks

This sounds exactly like when my son started teething. He was about the same age too. His first tooth didn't come in for a few months though. I didn't give him tylenol or oragel until it actually seemed to hurt him, and you will be able to tell when it hurts your daughter. She just won't be herself! Anyways, just let her chew away! My baby really liked to chew on my hand and fingers, but watch out when the teeth acually start approaching!

yes, drooling and such is normal. Chances are she is teething...gerber sells those teething toys they cost about a 1.00 ( lil duck shape or an eight) when my lil'guy was teething bought a bunch of those and even keep one in the glove box for back up. she prolly will be more fussy, run a temp. Also oral gel makes these cool swabs that you break one end to start it and instead of sticking your finger in can just swab it in. Sleep when you can and be patient. However if her fever gets to high or she starts acting wierd take to doc.....hope this helps

That definently sounds like teething. My daughter started teething at around 3 months. It can take awhile before you actually see the tooth but more than likely thats what it is. The baby orajel worked great for me especially the ones that look like q-tips :) good luck!
