My nausea has been continuing all day and every day, I cant hold anything down, not even the saltines. I didn't feel so sick with my first, and the doctor just tells me to avoid the things that make me sick, but its been everything. Smells, food, motion, and even lieing still for too long. Im also experiencing mood swings too, extremely irritated about everything around me. I dont know how much more I can take. Is this abnormal?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank You everyone for all the great advice, but I belive I found out why Ive been so sick. Diabetes runs in my family, and just last night visiting my family I had eaten dinner and started to feel really dizzy, my father haveing a test kit tested me just to be sure, and I tested at 295, witch if anyone knows about this, its way high, especially for my weight. So Im pretty sure this has a big part in my feeling so crappy. So now that I somewhat know what it is (gestasional diabetes) I can hopefuly fix it.

I had the same problem with both of my pregnancies. My first I was getting sick so much I was vomiting blood. I called my doctor and they prescribed me what's called Zofran which is an anti nausea. It worked great. I took it with both of my pregnancies. I too tried the Preggy Pops those were great as well. I did notice though that anything peppermint made ME sicker. I had to try and eat things slowly. I ended up losing a bit of weight at the beginning but made up for it in the long run. Good Luck and I hope you feel better!

Try preggie pops. They are a candy that has citric acid in it that is supposed to calm nausea. I had the same problem at nighttime. I ate small meals esp. fruits with citric acid. I also drank a lot of water and drank ginger pepermint tea.

I had GD with this last pregnancy, I have a 13 day old baby :) I was put on the diet, and since others in my family have diabetes and were curious, I typed the whole diet out in a file. If you want me to send you the file thru email let me know, it's pretty easy to follow. Once you get it under control with the diet *provided you don't also need insulin, I didn't...* you will feel SO much better. I was going thru the SAME thing, everything making me sick, so I hardly ate, and lost a LOT of weight instead of gaining. Only the last 3 months did I put any weight on, once I got on the GD diet. Well, the first 2 weeks I lost weight on that diet, then I started slowly gaining. I gained a total of 14 pounds this pregnancy, as opposed to my 50 pound weight gain with my second child Tony! LOL Let me know if you'de like me to send you the complete GD diet thru email! :)

I heard that Ginger Altoids work for nausea. I am not sure if they really work because I couldn't find them until after I had my daughter. I know that I was willing to hunt for them everywhere though to get rid of my nausea. If you are willing to give them a try you will find them at Target at the front registers. If you give them a try let me know if they really work because I am curious to see if they do.

i KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL. BUT YOUR DOCTOR IS RIGHT EAT AND DRINK WHATEVER MAKES YOU COMFORTABLE. BUT REMEMBER IF YOU DONT DRINK ENOUGH YOU WILL NEED AN IV TO REPLENISH YOUR FLUID. THAT IS NOT ARE SCARY AS IT SOUNDS. THIS IS YOUR FIRST LESSON ON EVERY PREGNANCY/BABY IS DIFFERENT BASICALLY, YOUR BABY IS EATING EVERYTHING YOU ARE PUTTING INTO YOUR SYSTEM. JUST SIP ON THINGS AND TAKE LITTLE BITES. IF YOU ARE RELIGIOUS, SAY A PRAYER. TRY TO STAY CALM BEING NERVOUS DOESNT HELP. ALL WIL WORK OUT. BEST OF LUCK. KEEP US POSTED.

I'm sorry you are having such bad nausea. I am going through the same thing. I've had nausea with all my pregnancies so far.
Try sucking on lemon drops. My doctor recommended I have one in my mouth at all times. Any kind of sour candy will help. She also said if it's really bad to try lemonade and potato chips. Not a lot but like a handful. Somehow the sour and salt help.
Another thing she told me is to eat small amounts throughout the day and to not mix dry/liquid. So, drink some water then thirty minutes later eat something.
You can also get Red Raspberry Leaf Tea (not flavored tea; it's an herbal tea) that will help to calm your stomach.
I don't know how to help you with the mood swings. I'm Bipolar so pregnancy hormones are no help and I really haven't figured out a remedy.
Good luck!

Hi M.-
I am pretty sure Zofran (which can be prescribed by your doctor) is safe during pregnancy. Check with your OB to see if he/she thinks it is o.k. to take. I used to work in a pediatric oncology clinic and they would give Zofran for the naseau associated with chemotherapy. If it is safe to take, I am sure it will do the trick. Good luck!

M.,

If it will make you feel better when I was pregnant I had morning sickness for almost 5 months. Ask your ob for the prenatal vitamins that help with nausea. What really worked for me were motion sickness bands...you can get them at any pharmacy.

I had the same problem with my second pregnancy. I was sooo miserable! My doctor to me to take this OTC anti nausea medicine that is safe for pregnant woman. I believe the name was Emetril. It's a sugary, syrupy kind of medicine and it helped me. Ask your doctor about it. Not completely but enough so I could actually eat once in awhile.

Hello M.
Try ginger; it has anti-nausea properties, which is why so many people swear by ginger ale for a tummy ache. I'd go for fresh ginger which most supermarkets carry now. It's a light brown root, and I think most stores keep it near the packaged salad mixes. You can grate it into say a smoothie or some yogurt or look for recipes that use ginger. The other option is ginger supplements which you should be able to find in most drug stores. You may want to ask your healthcare provider before taking supplements, but I am confident that he or she would say they are safe.
Another trick that works for many women is "Sea Bands". They're wrist bands that are sold for motion sickness. I assume they work by triggering an accupressure point.
Not so sure what to suggest for the mood swings. But I would bet that once you get the nausea under control the mood swings may improve. If you're not able to eat, or not able to eat well balanced meals because you are so sick it may be causing your blood sugar to drop (hypoglycemia)which can definately cause mood swings. Do your best to make sure even if you are not feeling well you have frequent, small snacks between meals. Try choosing foods that are light but full of vitamins until the nausea passes; fruits and veggies, smoothies made with yogurt, fresh juices, brown rice and whole grains breads or crackers.
Best wishes
D.

I simpathize, as I'm sure many others on this site will. My second pregnancy was horrible for the first 4 1/2-5mos. I couldn't keep anything down, not even fluids. I lost quite a bit of weight. I found nothing that worked. Unfortunately the only thing you can really do is go to your doctor & get an IV of fluids (not something I tried, but I hear you feel better) or your doctor can prescribe you some meds (again not something I personally did, but others say it works). Otherwise, just keep in mind that it's usually harmonal & balances itself out by about 5mos. Good luck to you & I hope you can start enjoying your pregnancy soon.

Hi M.,
Each pregnancy is different, so thats not unusual to be sick with one and not the other. I found it helped most to have a steady supply of small snacks, saltines, or whatever, because when my stomach was empty i got nauseous. you may try sipping on ginger ale steadily throughout the day. Does being outside and getting some fresh air help any? usually this stage passes after a few weeks. if it is really bad, talk to your doctor and let him know, not just about the sickness but the other stuff too. maybe he can suggest something more. Hang in there, and God bless...

Hi M.,

I was nauseous for most of my first two trimesters, until I started taking Zantac twice a day. I couldn't keep anything down and actually was losing weight and twice had to get IV fluids because I was so dehydrated. Crackers, ginger ale and all the usual recommendations did not work for me. Then my pharamcist recommended Zantac, and it was a Godsend. I took it in the morning and early evening, and never had a problem, but I found if I missed a dose, the nausea came back immediately. I would check with your doctor, but I did the research too and found that it was safe for the baby. Some other heartburn/antacids are not safe especially in the third trimester, so definitely do your research with your doctor and pharmacist. Good luck! I know just how you feel and it gets so frustrating, but Zantac worked wonders for me.

I went through the worst case of nausia until my 4th month!. Threw up about 1-2 times a day, could only eat cereal and soup, and all smells made me want to vomit. my sense of smell was so sharp, as soon as I walked into my apt building I could smell the grease that was used when ppl were frying meat all the way from the first floor!! It sucks but everything ur going thru is normal!!
