Seeking Advice for My Little Boy

Hi Moms!
I have a little boy that is almost 2 1/2 since this summer we have had reoccurring problems with him digging in his diaper and smearing poop all over his walls, carpet, toys etc. When it first started to happen I put him in feeted pajamas and that seemed to curb the behavior then he figured out how to unzip the pajamas and it started again so I cut the feet out of some of his jammies and put them on backwards. Again fixed the problem well now 6 or so months later he is back at it. He is now going up the leg of the jammies. He is waiting until nap time to poop and he has done it twice this week. I am so frazzled, I don't know how to discipline for this and it is absolutely gross!!! I have read about this and some say he is ready to be potty trained, which we are working on but he is not ready to go all night. So what do I do? Anyone out there have these issues? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

What can I do next?

To solve the immediate problem of him digging in his pants, try putting a pair of tights (like girls cable tights, do you know what I mean?) underneath the backwards jammies. That will stop the going up the leg issue.

As far as the overall issue, I would try a couple of things:

When he does it, don't react AT ALL.

Make sure that he has plenty of play dough to play with during the day to curb the stimulation he may be getting from the texture.

Try feeding him lunch and dinner 1 hour earlier than normal so he has time to get his business done before nap/bedtime

You don't mention if he is still on the bottle, but, if he is, eliminate it. I don't know why it seems that sometimes those two are connected.

Good luck :)

I have to go with Starr on this one.. LOVE the tights idea with full bodied backward pj's. Boys potty train later than girls so I would not push that issue. I think right now you just need another quick instant fix and that would seem to work. Good luck. Keep us posted though.

Have you tried duck tape? Duck tape that diaper on

Really at 2.5yrs.old that is not acceptable, I had my daughter fully potty trained at that age. If she had smeared poop everywhere etc..I'd probaly have given her a whoopin and snapped on her to be honest.

I haven't dealt with this issue with any of my children, but I have heard of it before. My kids are actually scared of their poop!
I just did a quick search online and found that many moms going thru this use the cold shower technique. They tell their kids that poo stays in the diaper or goes in the toilet. If you play with it, you'll get a cold shower. Sounds sorta cruel, but it seemed to work for other moms online.
