After you complete your course of antibiotics, I would follow up with using probiotics to clear your gut and also your breastfed baby's.
I have battled with numerous infections since delivering my baby 4 months ok. My gyno has once again prescribed an antibiotic and I am hesitant to take it because I am still nursing. Do any other moms have trouble with Group B symptoms and if so have you experienced taking numerous antibiotics and did it effect your baby in any way? I am wondering if it would just be better to stop nursing which I am not ready to do.

Don't quit breastfeeding! It is the best thing for your baby. I was on antibiotics for 8 weeks after the birth of my first child. It is ok. Normally the doctors will prescribe amoxicilin which is safe for children. If the medicine you have is not amoxicilin, then check with your doctor for a better recommendation.
I had an emergency C-section (after 2 days of painful natural labor) and of course IV antibiotics. This started a long progression of thrush, which was also very painful, but I breast fed until 16 months anyway because I was determined to do it. The doctors know you are nursing and should be prescribing very safe antibiotics. It's not a perfect situation of course. Be careful of thrush though as antibiotics can shift your yeast off balance. Stay away from processed sugars and white flours. Eat lots of veggies and fruit, whole grains, and nuts. This should help. Congratulations on your little boy!

I am nursing my 3 1/2 mo. old and taking antibiotics (augmentin) an stronger than normal antibiotic. The pharmacist told me it MAY cause a little diarrha (spelling) but otherwise be ok. she hasnt even had that. so i am not worrying. she is doing fine. i wouldnt worry if there was no signs of anything to worry about. i wouldnt want to stop either. :) id try it before i stopped nursing and see how it goes.
Ask your pediatrician or pharmacist and they can tell you if it is going to affect your baby.
I had to take antibiotics (amoxicillon) to tackle mastitis. The doctor prescribed them to be so I am sure it's fine with breastfeeding. Also, breastfeeding during a mastitis infection is encouraged since it helps heal you faster.
Marla at the lactation station at GBMC has great info on which antibiotics are safe to take while nursing. I really don't know any thing else. Only you will know when it is right to stop the nursing relationship.
