can we say Jumperoo? it is the most awesome thing because my daughter just hops and hops and hops until she drops literally! it is so funny! you gotta get one.
I am a first time mom and just came home full time to be a SAHM. I was on maternity leave for 11 weeks. I worked for 3 months and we decided it was best for me to come home and take care of the baby. I have really enjoyed the last 2 weeks. My main concern now is activities for the baby. She is 6 months old and she doesn't really nap. She take "cat naps". She does sleep for 10-12 hours at night. Anyway I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to keep her entertained. I don't want to sit her in front on the TV all day. She gets "bored" really easy. Can anyway give me any games to play with her? I want as much one on one interaction as possible, but I'm running out of ideas. Thanks for your help

There are lots of games out there for 6 month olds. My daughter is also 6 months, and like yours, only takes cat naps. She got some great games for Xmas, I didn't know they were for her age until I read the boxes. One is called the Laugh & Learn learning table - has a bunch of little activities like colors, shapes, and songs. Another she got was the Leap Frog Baby Little Touch Leap Pad. It comes with a little story book, and then you can buy separate books, and they all come with several activities. And the last thing she got that is very interactive, and kind of fun for me too, lol, is a toy from the Discovery Store call Ann B. Dextrous - it has all sorts of buttons for her to push, lights up, makes all different sounds, you can set the stage and age level (starts at 4 months I believe, but you can manually set it to 6 months)and it grows with the baby, each stage offering different activities. I don't know how much any of it costs, unfortunately, but you could probably find the table and leap pad at Walmart or Target and get a good price on it. Then of course, there are the traditional games, like the shapes to fit in the matching hole, the stackable rings, etc etc.
Of course, you can always purchase toys for your daughter's age group, however, some of the simple things things in life can be just as fun. Picture books, fingerplays, music, sensory activities, etc. I know when my son was your little girl's age he loved to play in the bath and I would put cooked spaghetti in the bath water. He just thought that was great and it was a different kind of sensory activtiy. Babies also love to watch other children...See when the library has storytime time for babies, see if there is a playgroup in your area. Also Kindermusik is a great musical program. Just type Kindermusik on the internet and find a class in your area. You can always demo Kindermusik free. My son also loved when I would walk around the yard and talk about the objects outside. I hope this helps some, A.
The best advice I have is to go to the library - there are a million books on activities to do with the under 12 month set that you can do at home. They are simple yet truly effective -
Hi C.,
I am an educational consultant for Discovery Toys. I dont know if you've heard about the company, but they make educatioanl toys, games, etc... for children of all ages. These toys are great for getting your children away from the TV and developing various skills while just playing. I was looking to puchase some toys for my babies and was so impressed with the product that I joined the company. Anyway... if you'd like to, check out my website... www.discoverytoyslink.com/N. We are having a huge Winter sale now through Feb 10th which will save you up to 62% on the toys. You can also earn free toys by hosting a party (just invite some of your friends over and I'll do the rest... you'll earn free toys of your choice). Let me know if thats something you'd be interested in. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions... ###-###-####
Good luck,
N.
C.,
I also have a 6 month old daughter who likes to be "entertained". I was just emailed this page ( http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/baby/babyactivities/1498... ) from Babycenter.com. It has some very good suggestions for games to play with baby. Hope it helps you.

Hi C., I am a mother of a 6 month old girl as well. Ive found that lots and lots of singing and playing simple games like peek a boo can pass the time and she will enjoy it. I also have lots of activity toys for her that she plays with. She has a few light up toys that she lays on her back to play with...really, just browse the isles of walmart and see what they have to offer. Anything you buy her can be played with by the both of you. If you are looking for stuff that doesn't cost much of anything, touch and feel books are the way to go.
Walks in the park pointing everything out and naming them. Libaries usually offer a puppert show/story time. I know one of ours even offers free baby sign language classes, you have to sigh up early though, it fills up fast. I took my son to My Gym ( a place for infants and toddlers), there is Gymboree a great place which offers music, bubbles, great interaction with you. I paid to go to classes like these which in turn taught me how to do things with my son at home. Music with Mar is a great country wide music program. You might want to look up one of these programs, it's great music and you can do sign laguage/hand movements with the songs that entertain and teach your baby. Music is the best thing right now. They love it and it's supose to be good for learning math later in life. There are a ton of things to do, just keep asking other moms and do alot of online research. Good luck!!
You may also want to join a local playgroup..My suggestion is to go to Yahoo! Groups, and put in Jacksonville playgroup or another keyword of your choosing..there are alot of them in this town!! Not only does this help your child...but it helps you, too!
you can start a routine,
go for a walk, bouncy seat, baby einstein,
sing songs, read books, peek a boo
excercise with the baby, tummy time
there are some great books at the bookstore too.
good luck and have fun
