I have tried selling my son's clothes in a local consignment shop but only a few of his clothes were accepted. Is there somewhere else I can take them in the Kansas city area?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the ideas. I have not used CL before but now might be a good time to try. I also had never thought about some of the local charities that always need clothes. I work just a few blocks from a Community Service League office. I thing I will call them this week. Again, Thank you all for your ideas that helps.

S., There are Just Between Friends sales twice a year. You price the items and then they have a 3-4 day event and sell them for you. Your earn 70% of the profit. However, they won't have another one until Spring. The website is www.jbfsale.com

If your wanting to get rid of them right away you could always list them on craigslist. I've done it in the past and the kids things usually go fast. Especially if they are in good shape.

If you are ok with donating the clothes. Try calling local daycare centers. My previous DC took two trash bags full and used some for spare clothing (as you know it's always needed) and then there was an infant who was being taken care of by an A. (unexpectedly in her care) who took a lot of the clothes. So sometimes there is no money involved but there is a need.

I always took my stuff to Children's Orchard. They buy gently used clothing and toys. The clothes cannot be stained or torn. There is one on Noland Rd.

I have sold to Children's Orchard. They are picky and don't give you a lot but some money is better than none. You could also list them on Craig's List here locally. I've sold some on eBay but that has it's own challenges - shipping costs, paypal, etc.

If you are in a position to donate clothes, there is an organization on Troost (can't remember the name) but if you call the Redemptrist Center (they accept adult clothing only), they can give you the name of it. At the organization I'm thinking of, the clothes are given to children who don't have any seasonal clothing. The center watches these children during the day, gives them food, clothing and preschool work while their parent is out trying to find a job or is working a low paying one. I can drive there but can't remember the name. Anyway, they are so thankful for everything they get.

Try a site called GumdropSwap (http://gumdropswap.com). You can swap from anywhere in the US by sending the clothes your kids outgrow to this kids boutique in CT. An option if you want to get some value out of all the money you spent instead of flat out donating. As long your things are in good condition they don't turn down anything because of brand, size or season. They take everything unlike resale store like Once Upon a Child! They give you points to shop on the website and send the clothes that fit your kids. It's great if you don't have time, patience or know how to do consignment, Ebay, craigslist, tag sale, etc.
