Seeking a Loud, Obnoxious Alarm Clock

I have a 17 yo son who cannot wake up to an alarm clock. We are desperate to find one that works for him, as he will someday be leaving home. He has to find something that will allow him to wake up on time on his own and without Mom and Dad's help. Does anybody know of a loud and obnoxious enough one that we can buy him? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Everybody had great suggestions, but we've tried most of them to no avail. I think we're going to go with the large old-school alarm first. If that doesn't work, we'll buy him this one for Christmas! http://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Alert-SB300-Vibrating-Display...

Thanks all!

Hugs, Kat

K.,

I am VERY hard of hearing, and a sound sleeper to boot!!

I bought an alarm clock this year that has a disc you put under your pillow or under the mattress, and vibrates HARD! This sucker will wake anyone up!

Give it a try!

If this link does not work, just go to Amazon.com and search for 'vibrating alarm clock'.

Good luck!

I just read an article that stated to put the alarm clock across the room so that when you wake you have to get out of bed in order to shut it off, and since you're already out of bed, it's easier to get going. The loudest alarm clocks I've had have always been a clock/radio, and if you set the alarm to turn on the radio at a certain time with the volume at its maximum, that should wake the whole household. Good luck!

Hi!

I do agree to put the alarm clock across the room.. I had to do that to myself so I'd wake up. But also, if you could find a stereo that has a wake up or alarm clock on it. Then you have it set to turn on and you can choose the volume and also don't put it on music... put it on a station that is obnoxious with static. I have a stereo just like that and when I was in college that's how I had to wake up... and I hated it.. but it worked!!
Hope this helps!

Hi K.,
I just happened across your post today Oct. 4th but I thought I would share something with you.
I had similar problems when I was teen. And when I left home I ended going to school at night because I absolutely could not wake up early. It wasn't until after I had children that I learned I had an underactive thyroid. Since it is treated, I am now finally able to keep a normal morning schedule, waking up more easily and refreshed. Just a thought...maybe have his thyroid checked.
Good Luck,
S.

When I was in High school my mom got the old school wind up metal ones. There is no snooze button & they are LOUD. If it is a cross the room Your son will have to get up to turn it off & it is loud enough that it would wake me. I have slept through earthquakes & fire alarms but not that clock.
