There are rental shops for wedding dresses and other items that maybe a option to save money also.....
Hi Ladies, I am in the process of helping a couple plan their wedding. They have a very small budget. I shared some cost cutting ideas and the bride did not turn down my suggestion on wearing a second hand dress ( I have suggested it in the pass and rec'd a few cross-eyed glances). The problem is that I am not sure where to begin. I know second hand shops with wedding materials exists I just need someone to point me in the right direction. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

There's Once Again Bridal Shop in Clinton Township. It's on Harper between 14 & 15 mi roads.
Hi I would check craigslist or ebay. The other place is going to The Salvation Army. I can't believe how many dresses they have. There is one on 15 mile and Dodge Park, Hall road and Van Dyke and 23 Mile and Van Dyke. Those are the 3 that I know of. I hope they have a beautiful wedding.
Good Luck
As a thrift shopper, I see BEAUTIFUL wedding dresses at the thrift store all the time! They really have quite a variation in styles-- not just the poofy, lacy, puffy sleeve kind (if that's your thing), but also the classic, strapless, satin kind (saw one yesterday at the Salvation Army at Dix & Champaign in Lincoln Park). Of course, wedding dresses are fitted to the bride, so you are going to have to find a good tailor to fit any dress you get, which adds to the price, but if you have one in the family, you can probably save some money. As for favors, you can MAKE some and save money. Try your local bulk food store for some cheap supplies, like candies in tulle wrap, or if you're feeling more crafty (and have more time on your hands), try making plantable paper: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf71713276.tip.html
Craigslist is a great resource, and you'll probably be able to find some good stuff on there. Freecycle is also a great website to find free stuff-- you just have to go pick it up.
What size does your friend wear?? I have an absolutely gorgeous gown that I would consider letting go since it is just sitting in my closet and my daughters have already told me that they want their own dress and have no interest in wearing mine..

If the bride doesn't have her heart set on a "traditional" wedding dress, another good option is to check the major department stores right after New Year's Eve. You can get some amazing new gowns for quite a deal right after the first of the year when they have all their holiday stuff marked down to next to nothing. Many are quite "wedding'ish" and if she's having bridesmaids, they can get great deals, too. I went that route and spent about $80 on a fabulous dress. I've recommended that option many times to brides-to-be, but I always get the "look," too. LOL
Good luck! L.

Try posting an ad on freecycle.org. You might even be able to find a free one you never know.
