Safe Waterproof Mattress Pad?

I have a 2.5 yo girl who is moving to a brand-new big girl bed. I want to get a waterproof mattress cover to protect it from the occasional accident, but I don't want to expose her to any toxic materials like vinyl, or make her sleep on a crinkly, sweat-inducing pad.

Anyone find a good mattress pad out there that fits the bill?

I don't remember the brand or where I got the one for my son, but it feels like a regular mattress pad. It says it's waterproof though and so far, when he's gotten sick, it's worked. His is for a full size bed and I know it wasn't that expensive. I probably got it at someplace like Wal-Mart or Target.

We got the one from Slumberland as well when our daughter moved to a big bed. It is expensive, but works fantastically. It is guaranteed such that if it does not work appropriately due to a product defect, they will replace your mattress. You don't even notice the cover is on the bed, it is soft and not crinkly.

I got my daughter's at Shopko on a really good sale. It was $19.99 regularly $49.99. It is nice because the "plasticy" part is covered on both the top and the bottom with a soft flannel-like part, so it isn't noisy at all! I believe it is cotton/poly blend. My daughter doesn't seem to have a problem with getting too sweaty. Good luck.

We got ours at Target--Circo Fitted Crib Pad for $9.99. It's a good, soft plastic layer covered by a thick fill layer with sheep on it. We loved it so much that we got more when we had another baby.

Pure organic wool is a natural waterproof material. It is the only non toxic mattress cover I've come across. I purchased the crib size (non-fitted) to help save a little money (they are expensive). Read a little about the organic wool on line and you'll be convinced!

We use the waterproof pad with straps. We haven't had any accidents yet, but the pad itself is nice and has NO plastic-y feel to it. It's almost like a thick layer of felt.

If you are concerned about chemicals, be sure to purchase a natural mattress. Conventional mattresses are LOADED with nasty chemicals - far worse than what you would find in a regular mattress pad. We bought a latex mattress for our daughter - it's expensive, but it should last 20+ years. And, it's super super comfy. I can't wait to be able to purchase the same mattress for my husband and me when the time is right.

We got the kind from SleepCountryUSA. It's terrycloth on top, with an odd cellulose type backing that is completely soft & non crinkly. You can BREATHE through it (air passes through the cells just fine), but it is 100% waterproof.

They've also stood up to being washed 1x per week for 4 years now, and they're like new.

We liked kiddo's so much we got one for our King.

We bought our son's mattress cover at Slumberland when we bought his bed. It is waterproof but soft so it doesn't have the "yucky" sound or feel. Make sure to buy two mattress covers so if she does have an accident that you have another cover to change too.
