I have been having these pains off and on over the years. Lately though been getting them often for two weeks. Its a pain that starts on my right side lingers on for hours. Sometimes it stays on the right side but sometimes it goes to my back it stays on my right side on the back. For years its been the same pain same areas. I had a couple of years back test done, ultra sounds, blood work done nothing. Doctor thought it was my kidneys but all results came back negative. Whats weird of this pain it will start evenings and by 2 or 3 in the morning its gone. No matter what I take herbal teas, pain killers, heating pads do not help well for a while but the pain comes back. I went to an accupunctrist and she said it was my spleen I took treatment and well did not help. I feel like this is an unknown symptom of some kind. Is there anyone out there with this same symptom and knows why it keeps coming back?

Thank You So Much!

It sounds like you either need to be much more assertive with your doctor or find a new doctor who is willing to be more aggressive about ordering tests. Some doctors are total wimps about ordering tests, out of fear of the insurance companies, so you may have to get tough. You should have had at least another ultrasound or some other form of testing by now (maybe MRI?) if this has been going on this long with no diagnosis. Tell the doctor you are no longer going to accept living with this pain and you expect him or her to work with you aggressively to get diagnosis so you can find treatment, and you aren't leaving his office until he has scheduled something, whatever is appropriate. I agree with others, sounds like possible gall bladder, but there could be many other causes as well, from simple to serious. We are not doctors here and can't diagnose. Get your doctor to do his job and don't leave him alone until you get answers.

Sounds like gallbladder to me too. Though an Ultra sound is the way mine was detected. It didn't hurt on my right side, it hurt in the upper part of my lower back...like someone was stabbing me w a knife.

Go back, have them check into your gallbladder, sometimes the stones are hard to see...

only other organ on the right side is the gall bladder. Mine is currently being watched Im on a prescription heart burn medicine to see if that will help the pains ive been having for about a year now but it got worst so I went to the dr. We did an ultrasound about a year ago which showed no stones but my dr said that sometimes the gallbladder just quits working and fills up with sludge. Do you have problems digesting certain foods? Is it down by your kidneys or more in your rib cage? If its your rib cage go to your dr and ask them to schedule you for some sort of scan of the gall bladder (this will be done at a specialist of course) That is my next step if this is indeed not GERD. She told me that there are the 4 F's that make you more likely to have issues with your gallbladder. Fourty, Fat, Female and Fertile. Im just female and fertile but I also gained a ton of weight with both my kids and she also said that also could be a contributing factor.

Could be gall bladder. Does it start after eating fatty foods?

I also get the same pain in the same area. It comes @ night, so I lay down to rest for a few minutes and it' gone. Don't know what it is. Haven't brought it up to my dr. because it comes and goes once in a while, not all the time.
