Hello all, just want to know what you ladies think of this. I have gone my entire life thinking that my blood type is O+, and no doctor has ever told me otherwise. I have had my blood drawn twice at my new OB doctors office because the first time they took my blood it came back O-, so I just thought they should test me again because it didn't seem correct. Sure enough, I am O-, meaning I have to receive a RhoGAM injection. Thats fine and all, but I have had a miscarriage and was not given RhoGAM then, and went on to have a little girl who is 3 now, and was not given RhoGAM then either! Does this strike anyone as odd? Any thoughts regarding being Rh- are appreciated, this is all new to me, thanks.

What can I do next?

I too am RH and I had 2 pregnancy. For my first I received the shot and for my second did nothing. My mother is a midwife and I know: When your negative and your baby is positive your body will reject the baby most of the time (this situation is common). If your type is battling the baby's type you end up mostly in miscarriage, but if for some reason you still end up with conceiving the child the problems that occur are mostly jaundice and perhaps other complications (to baby only). This mostly has to do with antibodies. That's why at 27 weeks they normally make the decision of wither or not you want the shot because that's when they catch if the antibodies are there or not. You can research this on google.

You choose. So if your babies blood type is a ok with yours no need for the shot. Good luck!!

I am Rh neg and my blood type is AB-. The way I understood it was that your blood type can be neg and you can still be Rh+. It is actually rare to be Rh-. Did they confirm that you are O- AND Rh-?

I am O- and have had the lovely RhoGAM shot with each of my 3 pregnancies but not with my miscarriage (happened between #2 & #3). I got one shot during my pregnancy and one after giving birth. My kids all have positive blood - I believe AB+. Even though we were done having kids after #3, my doctor gave me a shot "just in case"....

Oh and yes the shot is done in your butt, but for me only the intial prick hurt.....nothing afterwards.....lol

I found this site that explains it...... http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/rhfactor/a/aa050601a.htm

With all three of my pregnancies I have had to have a Rhogam shot. They say without the rhogam your body fights your baby as if it were a foreign object. You are prone to miscarriages if the baby's blood is a certain type. They have explained things to me all three times and I still don't understand it all the way. I went to the ER with this pregnancy, thinking I was miscarrying and they gave me a Rhogam right there just because I had some bleeding. Somehow I have kept this baby this time! Maybe the Rhogam helped that?

Hi K., I am O- as well and I have always recieved the RhoGAM shot twice during each pregnancy, once at about 5mths and another right after delivery. I had C-sections with all 3 pregnancy, so I received the last shot atleast eight hours after the surgery. Only thing I can say is you get the shot in your butt, it didn't really hurt, but it made my butt cheek numb. Sounds strange and sorry if TMI, but I wish someone would have told me. My son is 8mths and the numbness is just now begining to go away. Other than that all was well. I wish you the best of luck!

If your husband has a negative blood type, you are fine. If he has positive blood, have your blood checked for antibodies before you get pregnant. If you have alot of antibodies, it will be a very difficult, high risk pregnancy for you. Talk it over with your OBGYN.
I am Rh negative and my RhoGam failed on my second pregnancy. I did not know it until I got pregnant with my third. Lucky for myself and my daughter, (New husband from the first two) my husband was negative too. My doctor said, "I didn't want to alarm you, but had your husband been Rh positive, you would have had a baby, but would have gone through hell to have it."

Is your hubby rh+ or Rh- if he is rh- then there is no need what so ever to get the shot. Now they should have tested you with your other pregnancies it is one of the first things they do. So I am surprised that you didn't know.
