Relocating to KC Looking at Thousand Oaks and Seven Bridges Any Advice

We are relocating in the near future to Kansas City area. We are considering a home in Thousand Oaks and another in the Seven Bridges and having a hard time choosing which development would be a good fit for our family. We have also looked at Woodneath Farms in Liberty, but are leaning more toward Parkville or Platte City. Any advice to which is a better place for kids, schools, etc would be great? We love both homes but want to make sure it's the right community for us too. We are also looking at Public and Private Catholic schools. Our children currently attend Catholic Private school in Draper, UT but the public schools are not rated high here. Any advice would be great, we will also be looking for a daycare for our 2 year old.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all of your advice. We ended up coming visiting again with our children and chose the Thousand Oaks Subdivision, the home we were considering at Seven Bridges went under contract. We are excited about our move and will be in temp housing until October. I appreciate all of your responses.

I have a friend who lives in Thousand Oaks. It is a great community. As for the school system, Park Hill is amazing. I have a 10 year old daughter with special needs and we have been so blessed to have such a great group of teachers at her school(Graden). As for Catholic schools, we are members of St. Therese and it is such a wonderful parish. I plan on sending my 9 month old son to preschool there when he is old enough. Hope this helps and welcome to the area!

Please be sure that you are looking at the Park Hill School District, not the Kansas City School District. Thousand Oaks is in the Park Hill District, and they have very high ratings. Good Luck!

We just moved to the KC area a few months ago. We had also looked in Seven Bridges. The homes and neighborhood are beautiful and they have a lot of amenities... but we talked to our realtor and a family that lives there in Seven Bridges and found that there are not many young families in the neighborhood. The family that lives there told us that it's basically like a small retirement community. The schools in Platte City are fantastic, though. I love Parkville, too. I have a friend that is a policeman that lives there and he said he feels really safe leaving his family there when he's working at night. Both areas are great. The schools are definitely better in Platte City, in my opinion, though!! There are lots of daycare centers around all of the KC area. La Petite Academy is ranked really high. I don't have my kids in daycare- but I know a lot of people that take their kids there and love it. They have the different classes for different ages and they do activities/music with the kids and make it more 'preschool-ish' than just daycare. Good luck! I hope you enjoy KC! We actually moved here from Utah 7 yrs ago... and although we miss the mountains and our family there in Utah, we do love it here!!

I am a product of the Platte County R-3 school district and I really loved it! I was there from 5th grade until I graduated in 1998. Platte City itself has the small town feel but the school is still really competitive even with the larger districts in sports, music and theater. The teachers are outstanding. I had friends that went to Park Hill and do know that the schools there are larger but it's still a good district as well.

You really can't go wrong living anywhere up north of the river, it's a great place to live and raise a family.

Hi,

If I had a choice between the two - especially if I were sending my children to public school, I would go with the Seven Bridges development - it's less congested over in that area more of a small town feeling, the people are very friendly and the schools are top notch in Platte City - check them out on the web. Good luck!

Hi M.,

Welcome to the area. If I were picking I would pick the Thousand Oaks Development. It is a more established development. I am an insurance agent in the area and in just the last month have seen 3 familys, very simular to you move in that development. I am confident you will love the Park Hill School dist. If I can help you with your insurance and your new home purchase, just let me know. Kansas City is a great place!

If you move to Seven Bridges you will be in the Platte County School District - they are GREAT!!!!!! Thousand Oaks is in Parkville, which is in a much larger district. I have friends that live in this community and they seem to really like it. I grew up in Platte City and it still has that small town feel to it. I currently live in Parkville with my family, I love it, but one day wishing to move back up to Platte City. Seven Bridges is a great community, I have been there and it is very nice. It also has a very nice pool, football goal, etc. Goods luck in your search!! If you decide on Parkville, I have an excellent sitter I take my daughter too, as well as some other contacts. If you decide on Platte City, my brother takes his kids to a lady that is excellent, as well. Good luck.
