Try Boiron Camilla homeopathic drops. You can find them at Whole Foods or Wild Oats.
My daughter has her first tooth coming in and she is naturally having some issues. What natural remedies are out there for soothing?
We have the cold teething rings, but she doesn't always want to chew on those. I want to avoid the topical gum rubs and other drug related medications as much as possible.
Hi everyone!
I can't thank you all enough for the overwhelming response and the consistent message for the teething tablets. We did go and purchase the tablets and they have made a WORLD of difference! I wanted to give it several days of using them before I decided they were working. And they are!! We discovered sometime late last week that she is having two teeth move around right now (one on top and one on bottom)! I think that has added to her additional fussiness. Now if we can just survive the "I want to scream for everything, when I'm happy and upset" phase, our ears will be doing great! :)
Seriously, thank you all for your wonderful advice. You can't beat the experience of mothers!

Hi A.-
I used to give my daughter crushed ice. The pieces were small enough that she wouldn't choke on it!!
Hope that helps
A.,
When my kids were teething I found that a wet washcloth put in the freezer was good relief for the teething. Also gnawing on carrots--the bigger the carrot the better.

I give my 7 month old the all natural teething tablets. They really help take the pain away. As soon as I give them to him he is a much happier baby! I buy them at Wal-mart in the baby aisle. I did give my daughter Tylenol towards the end of her teething (around 18 months) when her molars and eye-teeth came in. She was in a lot of pain and had a fever and the tablets didn't seem to work as well. I hope your little one feels better!
I asked my son's pediatrition when he started teething and they stresses not to use anbisol or any of the oral numbing gels. They not only numb the gums but the tongue and the throat. I work in a dental office and tried some we had there even though it only lasted a few minutes. I would think that numbing would be extremly weird for a baby who has no clue what they are experiencing. I used a natural product called teething tablets made by hyland's. They come in a pink box and have about 125 tabs in it. They worked great and also made my son a lot clamer. They disolve under the tongue or against the cheek. I found mine at Safeway but I think you can get them at any drug store just ask the pharmacist they will direct you in the right place. I hope this helps.
A.,
I used Hyland's teething tablets, actually still do! I also tried Gripe Water and another Homeopathic liquid that came in single use shots. I found the last one @ Vitamin Cottage. They all worked.
The vibrating teether helped as well as half of a washcloth dipped in apple juice and frozen.
Frozen grapes, cantaloup, waffle sticks and popsicles were my daughter's favorite. I just used the mesh feeder.
As my daughter got a bit older I picked up on her teething "cues". Flushed cheeks, low fever, wetter stools (from the excessive drooling) loss of appetite.
She is 21 months and is currently cutting her 2nd year molars. I continue to use the teething tablets (found all over now...if you can't find them just ask the pharmacy) and Tylenol / Ibuprofen for her fever.
I know it's hard to see your baby in pain...but keep trying 'cause you know you'll have plenty more teeth after this one! Good luck!
Try a cold wet washcloth. They like to chew on it as well as the suck the water out.
My son is also teething and with our 2 1/2 year old back when he was teething, besides giving Tylenol which is perfectly fine we tried these little dissolvable homeopathic tablets called teething tablets (they also make colic tablets which help to soothe upset tummies and gas) They are in a small white bottle with a blue and pink label on it. They are made by a company called Hyland's. A lot of grocery stores carry them, I do not think I have seen them at Target or Walmart, but most grocery chains and any specialty food stores will have them. They run about $5 a bottle and they look like little pieces of chalk almost and you give them 2 usually and they just dissolve on the tongue.
Good Morning A. -
There is a homeopathic remedy for teething. It's available at health food stores like Sprouts and Whole Foods. It is in a little plastic container and the tabs are very tiny. They dissolve instantly when placed on the tongue. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it. I'm sure if you call one of the stores, they can help you. I used them on all 3 of my children and they work great.
HI A.,
I too wanted to ensure the solution was all natural.
We found so much relief (and sleep) from two things -
1. Hylands Homeopathic Teething Tablets - find at Frys, Safeway, Wild Oats, etc...
2. Gripe water - tastes like grape juice. Find at Wild Oats and Mother's Milk Boutique
Also - we froze celery - and he LOVED it. Just watch it as it thaws out...
Funny thing - he got so used to it - when he first got teeth - he asked for it...then we had to train him NOT to want it... (and give it to him again once he had a fullmouth of teeth!)
We also noticed that our son would get a runny nose - (clear) and really had to be present to changing his diaper the moment he went - he was very susceptible to diaper rash during teething. Best to you A.
A.,
I used the teething tablets as well and they work wonders! I used the natural Hylands Teething tablets. The only place I could find them was Walmart and Walgreens. Best of luck to you and your little one.

There are some good homeopathic remedies....Teething Tablets by Highland's and also Chamomilla liquid doses which are even more effective.
good luck.

Hi A.,
I can understand. My daughter had her first tooth at 4 months and she had a hard time with it. I did use the topical rubs and tylenol, but I did it as little as possible. What worked great for her was frozen waffles (they also soak up drool), frozen fruits, and teething cookies. If you are afraid of the choking hazard with the frozen fruits we bought the mesh bags and she would chew on those for hours it seemed. I got those at Target. The teething cookies you can get from Safeway or a local grocery store. They melt in the babies mouth so choking is not an issue, however always watch them when they are having them. Also she had trouble at night with sleeping. I used the humphreys teething tablets (walgreens-5-6 dollars and they are natural) You desolve them and rub on the gums. They worked wonderful. I had tried some other teething tablets and they did not seem to work as well. I hope that helps! Let us know...
J. S
I use clove oil. Find it at a health food store. It's what the dr's use to use back in the day.
Have you tried the Hylands teething tablets? They worked great for my girls!
A.,
Have you tried highlands teething tablets? They are all natural and disolve on contact. You can get them in the baby section at most stores. Like you I did not want to use the topical rubs. I also used the ice pops (the ones in the plastic sleeve thingie) for some reason my son would suck on those unopened when he wouldn't use teething rings. You can also wet part of a wash cloth and freeze it.
hope this helps
There are several excellent homeopathic remdies for teething. One is made by Boiron and the other by Hylands.
Either may be purchased for several dollars from any health food store. Since they are homeopathic you are 100% free from fear of any contraindications, the Poinson Hotline will support the statement that in 200 years there has never been a medical contraindication with homeopathic therapies. Simply drop the liquid in their mouth or inside their cheek. Good Luck.
Have you tried the homeopathic teething pills? The Hyland's brand has been around for like 130 years and many people swear by them. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. But when they do, it really seems to help my daughter. She seems to sleep better. You can get them at Pharmaca, Whole Foods or any natural products store. Best of luck!
you might try teething tablets they are homieopathic dissolvable tablets and they work great. i used them with all of my girls. you can find them at just about any grocery store.
Teething stinks! But it has to happen. Have you tried the teething nets. You can put a frozen banana, cantaloupe or grape in them and they act like a teether. Plus they taste good. And I no you mentioned you don't like the idea of medicines but it is a very painful thing! Even a good ped would recommend a little medicine!
Hi A.,
Have you tried wetting a face cloth and putting it in the refrigerator and then offering it to her? Or a teething blanket. With my first son, we had luck with the ambesol and his pacifier, but my 2nd son wants nothing to do with that. A friend of mine offered the idea of a teething blanket and it works wonders. He chews on the whole thing - it has a teething part and then satin ribbon part has the krinkly sound so he loves that.
Hi A.! I used the teething tablets until I bought a Baltic Amber Teething Necklace. This has been what has made teething a non-issue for us! Here is lots of info, if you are interested in purchasing one, I offer them for sale. My website is www.naturalchoices4baby.com I will have info about these necklaces on my site soon. In the mean time, feel free to contact me at ____@____.com
Hope this helps and you and your baby find relief!
Here is some info about the Baltic Amber products-
Baltic amber teething necklace are made to be worn by teething children to provide them with natural pain relief from teething symptoms, they are ideal for both boys and girls to wear.
The Baltic amber teething necklace has been designed to ensure the safety of your child by knotting before & after each bead so in the event that the necklace does break (it will break if excessive force is applied) only one bead will come off and the remaining beads will stay intact. The clasp is made from an amber/plastic, with a plastic screw mechanism. The clasp is laboratory tested to release if excessive force is applied to the necklace, which ensures the highest safety. Unlike traditional clasps used on children’s necklaces (parrot clasp and ring) which do not release, they rely on the ring or necklace breaking to release.
Natural pain relief provided by Amber has many therapeutic remedies. Amber works by placing the necklace on your body, this allows your skin to warm the amber beads which releases healing oils which are then absorbed into the blood stream.
The active ingredient is succinic acid which is fossilised resin produced by plants 40 – 50 million years ago. In nature the resin would have been used by the tree as a nautral antibiotic against infection, viruses and physical attack. The tree would use the resin like a plaster or wound dressing. Now the resin has been fossilised, its healing properties have been captured in the resin which are release once the amber has been warmed. Nobel-prize winner Robert Koch (1886) was the pioneer of modern bacteriology proved that succinic acid has a very positive influence on the human body.
In the 1930's and 40's, European biochemists discovered that succinic acid is an amino acid created naturally in every cell of the body capable of aerobic respiration, participating in the citric acid, or Krebs cycle . This is how carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are metabolized into energy. Wearing amber may also protect us against the negative influences of electrical equipment like computers, televisions, mobile phone and microwave ovens. Part of what's amazing about amber is that the chemical properties of the resin which when formed acted as a natural embalming agent, with both drying and anti-microbial properties. Ancient Egyptians actually used pine resin as an embalming agent, and doctors in the Civil War, lacking anything else, would sometimes slap tree resin on a wound as a disinfectant and saved lives that way.
When is it safe for my my baby to wear the necklace?
The necklace may be worn from 8 weeks onwards, or as soon as the baby starts teething or showing any signs of pain or discomfort from teething.
My baby wants to chew on the necklace, is this OK?
No, the necklace is made for wearing, not for chewing. The easiest solution is to tuck it under their clothing and the necklace will quickly assume body temperature and the child will ignore it. You should use other teething aids such as chewing rings to meet your baby's increased chewing needs.
Will this necklace solve my baby teething problems on its own?
This necklace is a natural teething aid relief, it will only assist with alleviating teething pain and will provide assistance with restlessness, irritability, acidity and drooling.
What does the amber do?
It reduces red inflamed cheeks and stimulates the thyroid glands to reduce drooling. Amber is associated with sunlight and warmth and reputed to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, accelerates the healing of wounds, reduce inflammation of the throat, ear and stomach infections and respiratory disease. There are no tablets, medications or pastes that can compete with this amber teething necklace, the necklace is unique and has amazing results which are all natural.
What is amber made from?
Amber is not a stone and therefore warm to the touch, as well as very comfortable and light to wear. What is the key ingredient in amber? The Baltic amber-succinite - is fossilised resin produced by plants 40 – 50 million years ago. In nature the resin would have been used by plants as an antibiotic against viruses, a substance healing cuts or a plaster for wound dressing. Now fossilised, its healing properties have been captured and are release once the resin has been warmed by the skin.
What research has been done on Amber?
The active ingredient in Baltic amber is succinic acid, which was analysed by the pioneer of modern bacteriology and Nobel-prize winner Robert Koch (1886). He confirmed its positive influences and discovered that there is no risk of the accumulation of surplus amounts of succinic acid in the human organism. Recent scientific research has also proved that succinic acid has a very positive influence on the human organism, iIt strengthens the body, improves immunity, the course of energy-related processes and the balance of acids. Current research shows that the micronization of amber improves its assimilation by the stress-weakened organism of the contemporary man. The unfavorable environmental conditions prevailing today block the natural flow of energy-related processes in cells. Blocks affect cellular metabolism and significantly weaken the immune system, but the natural energy of amber is able to stimulate its renewal

Yes, sorry to hear, Teething is a gnawing experience for mom.
Hylands has a teething remedy. It's mostly Camimiel (sorry not sure of the sp)
and also there are tinchers that help instead to Tylenol
both available at your local helath food store.
They also sell teething cookies, my children always enjoyed.
One other thing that helps is Hypericum (homeopathic form) or St JohnsWart (naturpathic form). I used these when I had a deep cavity until I could get to the dentist.
From first hand experience this works.

Okay, I know this may sound odd, but as a mother of three (9, 7, 4) I assure you it works wonders! You can give your child long strips of teriyaki beef jerkey to chew on. It's sweet, so they like the taste, and because the meat is tough, it soothing and helps soften their gums. It also isn't easy for them to bite off, so there is less chance of choking. You can also try a whole, cool carrot.....If all else fails, MY parents recommend rubbing a drop of whiskie on her gums....nothing like old fashion home remedies! :o) Good luck!
We used "teething tablets" and "calmes forte" by hylands and also "rescue remedy" by Bach Flowers. They did a great job of stopping the irritability of my sons. I also bought mini bagels and put them in the freezer, they liked gnawing on them. Power bars frozen were also a favorite, though they were kind of messy. Cold apples cut up are good, you just have to make certain they cannot bite them into pieces.
Hello,
You can go to a store like vitiman cottage and pick up Homeopathics tablits made of Chamomilla. I have used those and they seem to work pretty good. The other thing I would suggest are popcycles. You can find surgar free one and all natural ones there too. Hope this helps.

I use Gentel Natural's Teething drops. I brought them into my daughters pedi to make sure that the ingrediants were okay and she said they were fine. They work really well and do not contain caffene or alcohol, so I recomend those. They work great for her.
I have 3 kids ages 2, 3 and 5 and all of them got their first tooth by 4 months. The hard part was that they were still too little to be able to hold anything to chew on. So I bought an ice shaving machine. I fed them shaved ice with a baby spoon and they loved it! I also got one of those net feeders that you can put a piece of fruit in so they can suck on it, but instead I would just put in a piece of ice (be sure to run it under water for a second so it doesn't stick to their lips) . So I wish you luck...teething is rough!
One of the natural remedies I know is to take ground clove, add enough water to make a paste and apply to gums - We used to freeze clean sterile wet sponges also for my girls to chew on, also.
A., There are teething tablets by Hylands that are organic and worked well for my kids. Also there might be gel by Hylands. I think I got it at Longs drugs.
Good luck!

Have you tried vibrating teethers? Our son liked them. You can also freeze them. They begin to vibrate again as they thaw. I got mine at Babys 'R Us. At 18 months, and done teething, he still loves them.
Frozen waffles, or a cold wet washcloth to chew and suck on. I also let me little guy gnaw on my finger.
We use Highlands teething tabs with our son. They are all natural and seem to be very effective. Only when his incisors came in did we have to go to something stronger. We used clove oil which a natural numbing agent. It takes just a little. Both should be available at your local Sprout's, Trader Joe's, or Fresh and Easy markets in their health and supplements department.

Not sure if anybody has posted this yet, but the teething tablets are wonderful! I recommend them 100%. You can get them at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Vitamin Cottage and probably other places as well. Good Luck!
We had the same thoughts about our little one and teething. One of my friends suggested those Hylands Homeopathic teething tabs- she said it was all she could use on her kids. I read the label- theyre all natural- but they didnt work for mine. I made a cup of chammomile tea, dipped one half of a washrag in it and then put it in the freezer. When it froze I rubbed it on my little ones gums and let her suck on it. It worked okay. BUT, I did find this teether at Babies R Us that was GREAT! It was gummy at the top but vibrated when she bit it. Im telling you, it was not only soothing but also entertaining. Good Luck
Hi A., i have a 9 month boy and he just got his 2 bottom teeth. I swear by the highlands teething tablets. they work great for us. I think mine is getting his top ones as well, so this has really been a cranky month. I understand and mine is doing much better on those. When mine was younger we also used the gripe water. it says on the bottle that it is also for teething. Both of these products can be found at sprouts or a baby store.
Also, i freeze bannanas and put them in the feeders that hold fruit. My son LOVES it. It must feel great on sore gums.
good luck.
Hi A.,
There are homeopathic teething tablets that work very well. They are available in most health food stores.
I am a midwife with two books of birth stories published. Check my website for stories and lots of information. Best of luck.

When my youngest son was getting his firsst tooth he was so well unhappy we tried this crazy thing a friend told me this works well it did for him. Take a green onion and cu off th white part rinse the green part withwater then with the green part still wet toss it the frezer when it fozen soild give it to her to chew on but watch her becuase when the onoin starts to unfreze it gets gross. The theory is that onoin has natural numbing stuff in it. Best of luck
Try 'Gripewater', which can be found in the grocery store baby aisle above the lotions, washes, etc. The label will tell you that it works for gas, which is why I originally bought it for my first born son in the hospital under the brand Baby Bliss Gripewater, but it also works naturally for hiccups, teething, and upset stomachs. I've loved it ever since we bought it and am now using it for my 11 month old daughter. Good luck!
We’ve used one since our son was about 4 months old. I was with you – pretty sure it worked, didn’t hurt, so we kept it. Then, around 10 months, his broke. Around 10 months, he started cutting 3 teeth at one time. Around 10 months, we went insane (he was up 5 times one night). We ordered a new one in the middle of the night one night, and counted the days til that little latvianamberstore.com box showed up at our door. I have since determined that they work, and they work wonders! He recently cut all 4 of his molars at once, and other than about a month straight of one middle of the night waking, he was happy and you would have barely known they were coming in!
www.latvianamberstore.com
We did use Hyland's Teething Tablets (homeopathic remedy) and they seemed to help.
Another thing to try if she can do solid foods -- I made whole wheat mini-bagels (you could make them with any grain or buy them) and froze them. My daughter would gnaw on the frozen bagel for a long time, it tasted good so it held her interest, and it was small enough to fit in her hands. Good luck!
Hi A.,
I'm have gone thru this and still am going thru the severe drooling and teething. My kids love the ice in the this holding items that are made out of mesh sold at almost any store. I just put ice and a bib on and they love them and stop whining. Mine are not crazy about the teething rings either. At 6 months it might be early for hard crackers, but the kids love to chew on them with their gums.
If you can see the tooth at the surface (the gums are white) you can take the rounded side of a spoon and cut (press "hard") the tooth for your baby and save days, hours, whatever, of crying, screaming, fussy baby. Yes, Baby may cry/scream for a moment or more, but in the long run, you both will appreciate it! I did it with my babies and it works like a charm! (if you want you can numb the gums a bit prior by having your baby chew on a frozen teether)
I used homeopathic teething tablets for both of my kids and they seemed to really work. The brand is Hylands and you can get them in the Target pharmacy, over the counter. Once in awhile when my 2 year old isn't feeling great or overtired I give her a couple and I think it helps her relax.
Hi A.,
My daughter had a pretty strong reaction to teething. Instead of teething rings, I found putting frozen peaches in a fresh fruit feeder (they are sold at Target and are little mesh bags with handles) worked great. Once they were no longer cold, I would just easily replace them with new peaches from the freezer. Good Luck!
D.
Have you tried the wet half of a wash cloth and stick it in the freezer trick? shape it to fit the part of the mouth she needs it to reach before you freeze it. If you only wet half the other half is a good handle. Good Luck!
I too use the teething tablets. They work wonders. They also desolve really quick so they are easy to administer to even the most reluctant babies. I also have wet a washcloth and put it in the freezer until it is nice and stiff!! She chewed on it until it was thawed. She loved that! Good luck, I know a teething little one is tough.
