Reliable Floor Sweeper?

Can anyone recommend a good floor sweeper?

I would use it about 5 times/day after each meal/snack time on hardwood floors. I've tried several popular motorized sweepers that use rechargable batteries but have not been impressed - always a battery problem sooner or later that I no longer want to deal with. Lately I've tried just a broom & dust pan but by the time I get the pilles of crumbs/food swept, either someone comes to play in it or I have to run elsewhere for some urgent event in the house during which time someone else is drawn to the fun-looking piles - so basically the piles keep getting scattered . . .

I'm now seeking the good old sweepers you just push over the messes that are always used in restarurants. No battery, just strong arm-operated. We hardly ever go out to eat so I haven't been able to ask what brands are used in restaurants, so I'm hoping some of you other busy moms might have some recommendations.

Thanks!

We had one of those "good old sweepers" when I was a kid-we called it a carpet sweeper, and that's what it works best on. I'm pretty sure I saw one by Bissell at target.

I just got the Ergorapido Ultra by Electrolux. I really love that thing! It was recommended by 3 different friends of mine, all of which have had it for awhile with no issues. Mine is new, so I don't know about the battery issue, but I found it at Sam's Club for $79. The same sweeper was $129 at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I'm hoping I won't have any issues with it, but so far, I have nothing but the best things to say about it. Hope you find something that works great for you!

Those non-battery carpet sweepers never worked for me. I just got a Swivel Sweeper (g2swivelsweeper.com), and I love it. I've only had it a couple of months, but so far there haven't been any battery issues.

I bought a small canister vaccuum for my hardwood & its a huge help with clean ups from meals. it was cheap, about $60 and gets EVERY little crumb & does the highchair great too. I used an old sweeper like you are seeking, not nearly as quick or efficient, especially for bare floors.

I have a Dirt Devil Stick Vac and I love it! It was like $20.00 and it converts to a hand held that I sometimes us on the table. My 3 year old loves to use it and he can turn it on and off really easy. This is my 2nd generation Stick Vac my old one had a triangle head to get into the corners and that lasted for ever I got it as a hand me down. So that is my vote!

I second what Janelle says. I have a cheap dirt devil that I got at Target for $15 and it does all of my sweeping. Especially in the bathroom. I have super thick hair and it's always falling out by the butt load so a broom and dustpan does NOT do the trick.

I use the Bissell Featherweight when I sweep our entire wood laminate and I like it, but it is corded.
I also have a Craftsman handvac that I bought at Sears that uses the same batteries as my husband's drill. It maintains it's charge and we use that for quick cleaning under the table and in the highchair seat. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00911571000P?prd...
