I don't have any to suggest, but I'm grateful for all the good responses. I'm making a note of them for myself. Thanks.
I would like to get referrals to any pediatricians & gynecologists who are open to working with clients/patients who regularly use acupuncture, herbs and other forms of alternative medicine such as homeopathy and energy work.
This request is not just for myself, but also for many of our acupuncture college staff and student body who would like to find physicians who would like to work with patients who also use of herbs & acupuncture for ear infections, infertility, gynecology, and all other health ailments (such as allergies/asthma, depression, PMS, cancer issues, etc.).
I don't have any to suggest, but I'm grateful for all the good responses. I'm making a note of them for myself. Thanks.
Dr Heather Fliege is open to alternative medicine and has some practitioners in her office. She is a GP.

He is great!!
Hi C.:
Nancy Aton is a naturopath in town who is a woman's doctor. She delivered both of my kids at home (12 and 14 years ago) but she also does general health care. She is very good.
Also, I recommend Bob Stagnito for the Chinese Chiropractic work. He is an American who studied in Bejing and is excellent. He also does acupuncture and Chinese herbs.
They are both in Tucson, but well worth the drive!!
Good luck!!
Hi C. --
I am a patient of Mayo Clinic and I find them very open to the above thinking. In fact, they will suggest this to their patients themselves and have their own experts in-house for some of it. The rest they will send you to outside sources. Have used all of the above with them, so that would be my suggestion to you.
The group from Mayo that I use is out of Scottsdale -- at the main Clinic, the hospital and the Women's and Family Center on Thunderbird.

I have not yet been able to find an MD that practices alternative medicine, I think it is kind of rare... My daughter (21 months)and I both go to Southwest Naturopathic Medicine Center. Is the reason to go to an MD for the cost?
You can't get better for a pediatrician than Dr. Jerry Ruebin!
He's an alopath that is also a homeopath.
You would have to ask him for the best obgyn doctor these days.
My son, is 19 now - and to this day I would still recommend Dr. Jerry - (Even Colton did not want to give up his pediatrician!)

Kristen van Konynenburg MD,CHom is the most respectful, down to earth doctor I have ever come across. We first met with her when our kiddo was just a couple days old and my husband and I immediately switched to her practice as well. She is a family doctor who includes holistic medicine in her practice at Boulder Medical Center on Alpine ###-###-####. Dr. van K is a mommy in the making and will be on leave come April or May. We will do our best to stay absolutley well during that time! I too am a huge advocate of acupuncture, healing arts and preventative medicine and education.
We have a pediatrician in Castle Rock, Margaret Sheehan, that works with Perry Street Pediatrics. She's been very open--we do everything naturally and basically go to her for well baby checks and for screenings to see if there really is an ear infection or strep--then treat naturally. She's been great about our lack of immunizations and very open to learning from us.

I am a Chiropractor and Acupuncturist. We see Dr. Andrea Vianna in Greeley. She will always recommend herbal remedies and alternative health care options over drugs. You can make an appointment with her at ###-###-####. Hope this helps!!
Go to www.scnm.edu and click on the find an ND link. We are fortunate to have many Naturopathic Physicians in this area that bridge Western and Eastern medicine! My experience with ND's has been great!
The group in Denver called Partners in Pediatrics is a really great group who does alternative medicine for peds. There is a group of midwives at Swedish Medical center who are very open to alternative medicine and who use it. They are called the Midwifery Group at Swedish.
Hi C.,
Try Dr. Elizabeth Staerz (google her in Denver, I don't have her # right now). She's our pediatrician and has been very tolerant of our choice not to vaccinate so I imagine she'd be open to working with alternative remedies.
good luck

My daughter's pediatrician, Dr. Mark Bessette, practices Integrative Medicine and Functional Nutritional Medicine. I have heard, but we've not asked about it yet for our daughter, that he does cranio-sacral manipulation as well (much like an osteopath would). There is also a ob/gyn, Dr. Wendy Huempfner, in the practice who I've only met with once for a follow-up from an ER visit due to ruptured ovarian cysts and a fibroid, which included just a general pelvic exam, pap smear and history - I still need to book the follow-up, so I'm not sure how inclusive/integrative her philosophy of care is. They are at Pathways for Women and Integrative Medicine (I think that's the full name) at Old Farm Executive Park on E. Grant Rd. (just west of Wilmot), in Tucson, AZ.
Hi C.,
It's great to see how interested you are in natural medicine! I've had a similar journey (former corporate person). I'd love to talk with you sometime! Please call my office at ###-###-#### or send me a personal email at ____@____.com "Center For True Harmony" has a naturopathic OB/GYN and other holistic practitioners. They're located off Val Vista/Baseline. Here's there web site: http://www.trueharmonywellness.com/
Also not sure where you are, but Dr. Paki Chadhuri (I'm probably spelling her name wrong)at Pediatric Assoc of Durango is very open to alternatives and recently announced she is now certified and practicing some type of acupressure or acupuncture in her office. She also has a homeopathic practioner, Rebecca Koeppen, in her office one day a week.
Not sure where you are located but I love our pediatrician, Dr. Brazelton, www.pediatricswest.org, based in Colorado. Office in Lakewood and Littleton. He is so much fun for the kids, asks every question you can think of, easy to talk to, open and receptive. My 4 year old son just loved him!

In the Boulder area you can try Dr. Roy Steinbock at http://mindfulpediatrics.com/ - I unfortunately don't have any personal experience with him because we have Kaiser insurance and have to use their doctors, but I have heard good things about Dr Steinbock through both Moxie Moms and the JCC.
Hi-
My family practioner, Dr. Nancy Brown is excellent and is actually moving her practice from her current office at Oasis Family Medicine in Denver to a new alternative practice she is starting with an acupuntuist, cranio-sachral therapist, chiropractor, etc. She will be the only medical doctor and as a family practioner, she does pediatrics and gynecology as well. She has always been a proponent of aternative medicine and therapies. I do not think she delivers babies anymore. The office will be in Louisville, CO, as some of the practioners live in Boulder and some in Denver. Look her up! She won't be there until March, but you can call Oasis at ###-###-####.
Hi C.,
I am in Buena Vista and I am a certified Bionetic Practitioner who does Bio-Energetic Bodyscanning using homeopathy, following chinese model of medicine, natural herbs and supplements to bring the body back into balance as a whole, mind, body and spirit. The machine is a qualified form of bio-feedback and electro-acupuncture and the process is very individualized and specific to the persons needs. The body tells me what it needs for balancing, not me guessing. My contact number is ###-###-#### if you have additional questions.
Blessings!!

Alternative Choices
Partners and Pediatrics have doctors there that are open to this - we love Dr. Jerry Rubin and PA Danny. Some of the doctors in the practice are more traditional so definitely it's something to ask before but I have enjoyed being accepted for not immunizing and using chiropractic care for ear infections, etc. They also have an amazing homeopathy remedy selection at their office which is convenient.

I'd also suggest to the Moms out there Dr. Burt Webb, he is a traditionally trained MD, but is very supportive of alternative care. He has been a great resource for my patients that are unable to have a home birth and need more monitoring in their pregnancies.
Best,
R. Conte, NMD
My husband works in a family practice as a PA in Gilbert, and although he is allopathic he totally supports the homeopathic world as well as he does plenty of it, too, for his Crohn's Disease. He is looking for an accupuncturist for himself even. I know the practice is accepting new patients, but again he is an allopathic PA who will recommend allopathic solutions, but will support you in any way possible for the homeopathic side. In addition, this practice does not just give out antibiotics to EVERYONE who has symtpoms and they educate their patients. Let me know if you would like the name and number of the practice.
Go see Steven Komadina, M.D. He is awsome and open to lots of stuff. His office web site is www.healthhorizonsusa.com to get more info and his # is ###-###-####.
I take my 15 month old son to a family practioner that we really like. His name is Ted Anselmi and his number is ###-###-####. He was really supportive of natural childbirth, breast feeding, and natural methods of acheiveing pregnancy. I've seen him work with lots of families to get pregnant. He works closely with a midwife as well. I've never asked him about seeing the chiropractor or accupuncture but I don't think he'd take issue with it.
Also, since you mentioned looking for a gynecologist, I just wanted to mention that many mid-wives do well woman care as well as pre-natl/post-natal stuff. Mid-wife actually means "with woman" and my mid-wife, Tracy Ryan, takes lots of women for general well woman stuff. Her phone number is ###-###-####. She is also very open to alternitive medicines. I HAVE talked with her about chiropractic, massage, accupuncture, etc. She will also often reccommend natural remedies for things.
Good luck!
