I found a reddish bump in the groin area of my 3months old boy. While one doctor says it's a pair of lymph nodes and suspects it's due to the BCG Vaccine , Another specialist feels it's slightly in the lower groin and hence could be a bacterial infection and has given an oinment and asked to come after a week and if there is no improvement, probably might start some antibiotics.
Does anubody know as to what would be the treatment for lymph nodes for infants ? Is it safe to administer antibiotics ?

If it is indeed an infection... internally in the lymph nodes, to me... a topical ointment is not going to "cure" it... because it is an internal infection... and antibiotics are usually taken orally....either in pill form, or for babies, in liquid form.

I don't know what you mean by BCG vaccine. What is that abbreviation for???? Oh sorry it is the Tuberculosis vaccine. I didn't know they did this in the U.S.A.???? It is common in Europe.

So, as you describe it, there is more than 1 swollen lymph node? On either side of his groin or on the same side?

The thing is, without further diagnosis and a CONCLUSIVE idea of what it is....the Doctor is only speculating.

Or maybe its something else? A cyst? A hernia?
I would get another opinion.

All the best,
Susan

Agree with SH regarding a topical ointment being essentially useless if they are swollen lymph nodes. And, lymph nodes are under your skin, so they wouldn't be red.

Unfortunately, I know A LOT about lymph nodes as a few weeks after my daughter was born, I found what felt like a semi frozen pea moving around on my collarbone while burping her. They ended-up being swollen nodes, and it took 4 weeks to determine what was going on. I don't want to concern you, so if you would like to know my diagnosis, please let me know.

95% of lymph node swelling occurs because of the body's need to collect and remove infection. The signs to look for are enlargement (usually 1-2 cm depending on where they're located), tenderness (this is a GOOD thing), soft/squishy feeling, and the ability to move around (instead of being fixed). Those are all common signs that they are dealing with an infection as part of the body's natural process.

I'm a little concerned at the approach the physicians are taking. Anti-biotics are almost ALWAYS first line when there are swollen lymph nodes to try to deal with a bacterial infection. Why haven't they tried that yet?

Interesting - please keep us all posted on what you learn.

I would bet VACCINE! If your son has a reaction I would suggest you read a respected book on vaccines. Stephanie Cave has one "What doctors won't tell you about Vaccines" Or Dr. Sears "The Vaccine Book". They are giving too many vaccines too soon and our children are suffering the consequences.
If you give him Tylenol it only depletes his glutathione (helps him detox). If you want to have more info you can email me.
Thanks, L.

The best thing for lymph nodes is to help them move the fluid inside of them. Think of a long tube with little levers running all the way through your body and each lever in that long tube prevents the liquid from going backwards. If one gets backed up, it can swell and get infected.
Very gently (no heavy rubbing - like fingertip touch) rub his body from head to toe - be sure to touch under the arms, breast area and through the inner groin area (not his privates) down to his toes. Do this daily and make sure he is drinking lots of water. That will help flush out toxins. He might just have one that is not yet developed. I would also recommend looking online and trying to see where a baby's lymph pattern is so you can follow that while you fingertip massage him. And your baby will love to be touched - don't forget to gently rub the bottoms of his feet. He'll sleep very well after this. Hope he feels better!
