Try taking the items to a local second hand children's store, like, Once Upon a Child. They buy things in good condition and give you cash on the spot.
Does anybody have a good way to sell clothes that are still in good condition but do not fit anymore? I am a little afraid of e-bay & the expense with it being smaller items - shirts, pants, shorts, sweatpants... Any ideas?

In the past I have used a store called First Seconds Resale, located at 4266 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL 60641
###-###-####. The owner is Debbie. They will buy outright or put on consignment.
D., nothing to be afraid of selling on eBay. All you do is group the items together or into outfits, take a digital photo and upload the images of the groupings for each auction. Then in the auction you can state that you have other items and winning bidders of multiple auctions will save on shipping.
Otherwise, sometimes you make more money in the long run by donating the items to your favorite charity (get a hand signed receipt) and take it off you income tax. I think the rule of thumb for used clothes is between 10% to 30%, depending upon condition.

Hi D.!
I also recommend Craigslist. Aside for ebay that would be the best resource for your teen son's outgrown clothes.
For other moms reading this .... Once Upon a Child is a good. For those of you in the city of Chicago there are a couple resales.
Second Child on Armitage in Lincoln Park (Maternity Wear too)
Baby Thrift on Western and Wilson in Lincoln Square
Hand Me Downs in Evanston
D.,
Once upon a child in Downers Grove or Villa Park, and Small Change in La Grange.

I don't really have any info on how to sell your son's clothes but here's a chance to help someone in dire need!

Subject: Marie needs gently worn clothing help for fire victims
Hi Friend,
Again I am seeking help via email. You all came through before with your children
or friends children's clothing and furniture. As you know, I am a school social worker.
On February 21, there was a fire that completely engulfed the home of some of my
students. This was the home of an extended family of 23 people from the age of
3 months to grandparents.
Five of the children go to my school, I and CPS are helping them somewhat. However
there are several children who are not in school who can use help with "gently used"
stylish clothing and shoes. The family has been spread out and I know that there
are at least three homes that also need furniture, dishes, linen etc.
Please feel free to share this email with your email list and any of your friends who
have children without grown or "don't were" clothing and/or who are trying to get
rid of house furnishings. Please remember we are looking for clean, "gently worn'"
and stylish clothing. I will gladly pick them up.
The ages and sex of all of the children are:
Boys Girls
3 months 17months
7 months 2
2 2
4 2
7 4
15 12
16 13
16 13
17 14 (wears lady 16)
Also there are three young adult females and the grand parents.
Thanks, Marie ###-###-####
Hi D.:
I agree with Madeline. If you group the clothes together and sell on eBay, it will be worth it.
On another note, I work in the world of fundraising as well. And, my husband is a musician. We should talk!
Thanks,
G.
There is a store chain called Once Upon A Child.
If you live in the city, try The Second Child on Armitage in Lincoln Park. Otherwise, Craigslist or you can donate to the Salvation Army, etc. Good luck.
Try Once Upon a Child ...they have various locations...you can look them up online...good luck!
I don't know how close you are to Harlem and Foster Ave in Chicago, but there's a store called Once Upon A Child there. They will pay you on the spot for your clothing and any other gently used toys and baby/toddler items. It's a great place!
many schools are seeking to fundraise and clothing sales are a great hit, one of our local schools uses their clothing as their main fundraiser for the year and has been doing it for at least 30 years
Try a site called GumdropSwap (http://gumdropswap.com). You can swap from anywhere in the US by sending the clothes your kids outgrow to this kids boutique in CT. An option if you want to get some value out of all the money you spent instead of flat out donating. As long your things are in good condition they don't turn down anything because of brand, size or season. They take everything unlike resale store like Once Upon a Child! They give you points to shop on the website and send the clothes that fit your kids. It's great if you don't have time, patience or know how to do consignment, Ebay, craigslist, tag sale, etc.
playtos closet. look it up
I always sell my kids clothes in the school resales. There are many of them both in the fall and spring. I just heard about and upcoming one at BrookPark School in LaGrange Park School district 102. It's fairly easy. You go on the registration dates and get tickets then they sell your clothes and you get 60% of whatever you price your clothes at. Good Luck.

I often find that donating and taking the tax rebate is much more profitable, less agravation and great for those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Craigslist, worked for me....
