Hello - I'm starting to look at 2s programs for my daughter, but am overwhelmed with all that's out there! I want something really play based just a couple half-days a week, on the northside. Anyone have a recommendation? Or guidance to help narrow down the search?

What can I do next?

If Evanston isn't too far for you, the McGaw YMCA is great, affordable, and play-based, with flexible part-time options. We've been very happy with it! Give them a call for info and a tour, ###-###-####, and check out www.mcgawymca.org/index.cfm?fa=chi.home

After trying out the Little Gym, Gymboree and a few others, we went with a 2 day per week class at our local park district. The kids do arts & crafts, gym time, circle time (singing, etc) and play time with the various toys they have. It's about $40 every ten weeks and much more economical for this age than most classes.

The Fourth Presbyterian Church on Michigan Avenue has a 2's program. Two days per week for 1 hour 45 minutes each day. Its a GREAT program. Its play-based and everyone is very loving and nurturing. The director is the lovliest woman. The next two years after 2's are preschool for 3 and 4 year olds. You have to apply and get in - and you should do it as early as possible. Here's more info:

My daughter did a 2 year program 2 mornings a week at Chalk and really enjoyed it. They are located near North Ave. and Halted.
