Recommended Potty for Toddler Boys

Hi Moms,

Do you have a recommendation for a potty for little boys (either stand alone or seat adapter)? We purchased 2 Baby Bjorn potty's (stand alone and seat adapter) but our son wasn't ready to use them until now (when we are in temporary housing and all our stuff is in storage). I thought since we have to buy another one maybe I would try something different unless these are the best and we just need to buy them again. My biggest things are comfort for my son (who is in the 98th percentile for size) and something that can keep him from peeing over the top of the shield and onto the floor.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

We used a Spiderman adapter. We put a step stool next to the toilet. I liked the idea of training him on the real pot, rather than something he might try to pick up and carry around. That way it's less of a change later when it's time to transition to the next stage. The one i bought was $12 at Walmart. Very comfy. I had him lean over the toilt and hold the lid. That aims them automatically.

I don't use a potty seat, just more stuff to clean. I put them on the regular potty and teach them to point down. Leaning forward helps a little, but I'm always there to assist. When they are able to handle this on their own, then we teach them to stand up. No need to rush things, take your time and your toilet will be cleaner.

my son is also 98th percentile for height and weight - he never used the special potty we bought, he wasn't interested. he was plenty big enough to sit on the real potty. worth a shot. don't spend money till you have to! and i agree with tracy - especially at first, if they lean forward (and he will want to watch most likely) it doesn't spray everywhere. then as he gets more comfortable teach him how to point it. it's all about teaching them. good luck!

I got one from IKEA for 4 bucks for my son and it was the best one ever! The seat is low like the smaller Bjorn ones. He had a round one and pee would go every where on that one but not the Ikea potty. I think it even helped him with poop because it sits so low it helps them push better.

I would say to get an adapter for the toilet, because of your son's size. You want him to be as comfortable so that he can be successful. My son wouldn't pee in the potty seat because the cup was too small and he said it hurt. They have several kinds that fit onto the toilet, one that I know has a step to help them get onto the toilet. Hope this helps : )

we just used one of the ones from walmart , the seat not an actual potty. and just teach him to point himself down and hold it there. or teach him to do it standing up.

We used elimination communicatio nfor our kids and always used the regular toilet. No transition later.

Everyone told me to teach my son to sit then stand later. Well guess what that was a huge disaster and he regressed. So I decided to do it standing up with just our regular toilet no bells and whistles. I had him trained day and night in two weeks. Don't spend money on something that you don't need!

Good Luck!
