Potty for Larger than Average Child

I have tried to find a potty for my son. He is 3' tall and weighs about 30lbs. I have tried a few and most seem to be too small. Anyone have a larger than average child and a suggestion for a brand of potty that can accommodate him.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well..it seems everyone had luck with just putting the smaller seat on the regular toilet. I did think of this and was concerned about him being able to get on and off the regular toilet without getting hurt. I will give it a try....

Nancy B - "My daughter is 3' tall and 31lbs. I did not consider her large" - I dont think that my son is 'large' either, just not average according to the world of training potty's!!! LOL!! Who designs these things anyway???!!!

I tried the boon potty and I have to return it - he didnt like it.

Thank you for all your suggestions.

I've always thought potties were kinda gross (the cleaning part) so my son always used the toilet seat cover kind to train. They are cleaner & portable. Keep a step stool in the bathroom if he has any trouble getting up. Good luck!

With a similar sized kiddo we just used the regular toilet and a "seat" that came on and off. He need help up for about a week (could have bought a step instead) and then was good to go.

I would just use the toilet with a potty seat insert. We bought a potty seat that comes apart, so the "seat" portion would also fit onto our toilet as a transition onto the big toilet.

Teach him on the normal toilet - my average kids did it no problem.

My son, is 3.5 years old, 40 pounds, and 42" high. 3 and a half feet tall.
I use the Baby Bjorn potty chair for him and he fits it just fine.

I used it for my daughter as well, and she was a larger/taller child too.

It is perfect.

good luck,
Susan

Have you considered just putting him on the regular potty? We never used a potty seat (except a portable one for traveling when there were no rest stops close by) My 3 yr old son is the same measurement as yours - give or take a little...he just uses the potty seat that goes right on top the regular potty. It fits. He stands to pee though now. So funny!

my son is tall too--we used the baby bjorn potty. once his legs started getting uncomfortable, it was impetus for him to use a potty seat on the regular toilet--we have the bb seat as well, which is great.

We pretty much just put the smaller seat on the regular toilet and saved ourselves the transition. Just an idea.

My daughter is 3' tall and 31lbs. I did not consider her large.

She has a Princess potty in her room and we use a portable seat we got at Wal-mart on the "Big Potty" in the bathroom. Work out fine.

I did the same as many others here, bought the seat for on the regular toilet. The one we got is called flip n flush. It installs right on the seat you already have. You can close the lid and flip it up when a grown up has to use the toilet. I think we paid $20 for it. Flipnflushcom We love it!

Why does he need a potty? I am training my son to go on the toilet with one of those toddler insert seats so he does not fall in. So far it is going fine because he wants to do what mommy and daddy do. I think if he had a potty he would just play with it. I also have a step stool to help him reach the toilet and sink.

How about a child size seat on the regular potty. Plus the added benifit is IT'S FUN TO MAKE IT DISAPEAR!!!! The seats are about 10 -15 dollars at Walmart, Target any store that sells baby stuff should have them. Also they have great non skid step stools for kids that can be washed easily if "stuff" gets on it for about 10$ Ours is great its a "One Step" (the brand) and I even use it.

The Bjorn seats that fit on the regular toilet are fantastic! There are plenty of others out there too that fit on the regular toilet. My oldest was way too big to sit on most potty training potties. He didn't want to sit on them either -he wanted to go straight to the toilet. After a few weeks he insisted on just sitting on the toilet seat -perched up on it like a little spider ;-)

How old is he? When I trained both my kids around the time they turned 3, they just used the big toilet, we never had a pottie. It was fine. You aren't required to use a pottie.

There are seats that fit the toilet you might have to use that or just skip that and use the regular toilet. Hope this helped.

just get him a seat that fits on the toilet.
They make regular toilet seats that have an inset kids sized seat that folds up into the lid.

My daughter is three years old and average size and she never even used the potty. She has always prefered to hop on the toilet. I say skip the potty altogether. Good luck!!

My son is 4 and nearly 50 lbs and he still likes the baby bjorn potty (he has been potty trained a while). We have a seat for the regular toilet as well and he can use a full size toilet when we are out but that is the one he likes. If all else fails take your child to the store to pick one out. Bigger baby stores usually have a floor model to try out.

we also put the seat on the regular potty. It saves a lot on clean up! Recently we invested in a toilet seat that has the child's potty seat built into the lid, and we LOOOOVVVE it!
