Recommendation for Sippy Cups

Does anyone know of a good sippy cup? I have tried several varieties and they all seem to leak all over the place, which defeats the purpose. My son is a little rough, so they have to be able to withstand being thrown.

Munchkin sippy cups have withstood my daughters tantrums and being thrown around the yard. Available at Target and Wal Mart stores. Also Nuby brand sippers don't ahve that separate plastic valve, and are inexpensive from Wal Mart. They're pretty tough but if they break no biggie, since they are so cheap. Less than a dollar for one.
Good Luck! pammy

We settled on Playtex after paying to try every brand on the planet. All of them leak some--there is a little milk left on the mouth side of the valve when the kid puts the cup down. Push the valves in ALL THE WAY, as my husband keeps reminding me, and they work the best.

Hello!

I've had great luck with the Thermos Foogo sippy cup - they sell it at Lullaby Lu in Shepherdstown or you can get it online - just google Foogo. It is stainless steel - it definitely can withstand being thrown.

Take care!

I've tried many plastic sippy cups. Our favorite are The First Years by Learning Curve cups. They are well insulated and have not separate valve piece to keep up with or clean. They recommend these be cleaned by hand, but we have cleaned ours in the dishwasher many times. See one of the many styles at: http://www.learningcurve.com/product/detail/Y9095A4
These cups can be found in 2 packs at most Target and Wal-Mart stores.

I highly recommend any of the Munchkin line of cups...
http://www.munchkin.com/products/detail.html?section=prod...
in perticular...my daughter has dropped them off of tables, thrown them across the street, beat and banged and made her best efforts to destroy them, and they have held up great! I've had them just about a year now and they never leak. They are a little more complicated then some cups, but I have never never never had a leak!
Completely dishwasher safe, keeps drinks cooler longer, and if you look around they come in a variety of colors and designs. Some kids don't take well to the straw right off the bat, if yours turns his nose up to it, try getting a soda with a straw and giving them a taste from the cup/straw...should turn him on to the straw in this cup.
Plus the lid flips down to cover the straw up when you're going places

I love them!

If you're going for a cup that "turns up" to drink, http://www.munchkin.com/products/detail.html?section=prod... works very well too.

I used the Nubbie for my son when we were transitioning from bottle to cup. They are great because the mid section is smaller for little hands to grasp and the mouthpiece is shaped like a sippy cup spout, but has the soft rubber feel of the bottle. There is no extra insert which is nice. We had very little problems with leaking, but like someone else said, they all leak a little depending on how rough your child is with them. You can buy the Nubbie at most grocery stores and Walgreens. They come in packs of 2 for around $3.00.

We have so many different kinds of sippy cups in our house as well. The only one that has not leaked at all is the Playtex stage 3 sippy cup. It has the two-pronged plastic stopper in the lid which has stayed in despite multiple throws onto the floor. Her Gerber stoppers always fall out when they get thrown. The Playtex beginner cups didn't leak as much either but the stage 3s haven't ever leaked for us. Of course now she doesn't want to drink out of them but that is another issue! :)
Good luck!

I got the advent sippy cups, not the sippy lid for the bottle (which work well, but I wanted something very different for a cup, to get away from a bottle). I still use them in the car because they don't leak!! Good Luck!! http://www.aventamerica.com/products/toddlerfeeding/toddl...

We've been using the Gerber Sip & Smile cuyps from Safeway Grocery and so far they have been great. You do need to make sure they are completely dry from washing since some water gets caught in the base (giving the appearance of leaking but it actually isn't).

Try the ones with the straw. It worked for me when my daughter was one. I hope it works for you.

I don't know how dead set you are on "sippy cups" but my daughter since she bagan drinking from a "big girl" cup does very well with those insulated cups with plastic straws built in them and a cover that flips up and folds the straw downward during transport in a diaper bag. You can get them at Walmart in the Infant section (where all the baby foods, Gerber graduates, plastic utensils and dishes are). Make sure you ge the ones with the normal, clear, thin type straw and not the wider straws - not sure if they sell those anymore anyways. They aren't overly expensive but they will last you for a long time. Sometimes, when we are able to watch our daughter - mainly dinner time - she gets the usual "sippy cup" so she can at least practice with it and get the feel for one. But, for the most part, it's those insulated cups with straws. They sort of looklike/work like this... http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4631092 . Hope this helps. IF you have any other questions, please feel free to get ahold of me. :-) Good luck!

I like the Gerber transition cups but my daughter found a way to spill those. She loves the Take N Toss cups but they do spill (no valve in these). The Playtex cups (various sizes and stages) seem to be tough and only drips an amount that has already been sucked into the spout (very minimally).

Hi Christy, a fantastic sippy cup is My First Sipster, by Playtex. They have a rubber valve that is removable to hygienically wash the cup, lid and valve, and the cup and lid can be washed in the top shelf of your dishwasher. They are also very sturdy, and have lasted my first son and my second is using them too (they are a little rough too!). Good luck, and hope this advice is handy. Regards, J.

Playtex and Gerber. They all leak a little, but I've tried them all. Avent was the worst for us. Plus, you can buy new valves for Plaxtex and Gerber if the originals get too cruddy.

Now I also use Playtex Take and Toss straw cups at the table for my daughter (2) or for my son (5) when he's in the car. The expensive straw cups were annoying. We kept losing the straw inserts. Good luck!

Christy,
We have three little boys (5, 3, & 14mo), so over the years we've tried every sippy cup out there. Our favorite is the very simple one from "The First Years." They come in blue, purple, red or green with yellow spout lid. They come two to a pack and come in two sizes (small with handles). There is no valve to take out. We replace our whole inventory every six to nine months, and we stay leak free! We used to be able to find these sippy cups in a lot of places, but now can only find them in Toys R Us and Babies R Us. Good luck!

Hi Christy,

Why don't you try to start your son on a straw cup? I have heard those are better for kid's mouths (to help develop the muscles needed for speaking properly). A kind that we use that doesn't tend to leak is the Dora/Diego ones. You can buy them from Target, Walmart, etc. or in packs of 3 (cheaper) at BJs.

They make the straw cups with flip top lids and they also have a valve so they don't leak too much.

Hope this helps!

We use the take and toss sippy cups in our house. They do leak sometimes but it eems to me that only happens when they have been used for a while. Both of my kids use them and they like to throw them, although I am trying to keep all cups at the table. I liek these because they are inexpensive and if you lose one, or the lids like we do, its no big deal. I hated losing a sippy with milk in it and having to throw it away.

I love the Sigg sippy cups. They're not plastic, so you don't have a problem with toxins.

They're a bit more expensive, so you don't want to lose one, but they're durable.

Hi Christy!

My son is also very rough with his cups, and the only ones I have found to hold up to him are the Playtex insulated cups. They are a little more expensive, but they work. We've had some of ours for about a year and they are still not leaking. Good luck!!

Hi!
I like the kind with the straw built into them. My son is 18 months old and loves to drink out of straws, and they seem to be leak proof! The only thing that happens when he throws it, which he does often, is that the little snap-on cover snaps off, doesn't seem to effect anything. :)

Good luck w/ this one. Over time I think they all leak. My suggestion is 1. dont put them in the diswasher. 2. teach your son to NOT throw them. 3. only give him his cup at mealtime and snack time at a table in a chair. Thats it. I am currently breaking my kids of carrying their sippys around all day. Its annoying. Either I am cleanin up leaks or we cant find them or someone is sipping someone elses... I am over it. So now they are offered at meals and snacks. If they want a drink in between, then I can hand them the cup long enough for a sip and then it goes away. I try not to do that too often because that will keep you running all day long.
