Does anyone know of a sippy cup that actually works? I have been using the Nuby, which I liked, until my daughter realized that if she stuck her finger in the top, it would break the slots causing it to leak EVERYWHERE. Now I have around 20 Nubys with tops that leak. Augh! Please send me your tried and true answers. Thanks!!!
Don't forget to recycle the Nubys!!!!
I know I've taken like thirty to the recycling place. I haven't found a better one-it's so annoying that they don't sell just the tops! Now I just put up with the leaking and keep a "new one" on hand for traveling in the diaper bag, and I watch my daughter like a hawk and snatch it as soon as she's done. She also breaks them by chewing... :(

I love the Avent Sippy Cups and Bottles. I've never had a problem with them leaking as a sippy cup. They now make sport bottle ones too.
We've also used and like the Playtex ones with the plastic tops and rubber insert for inside the lid so that it doesn't spill.
Hope this helps.

My daughter will be 3 in august and she likes the nuby brand cup with a straw. It is the only cup she will drink from. I didn't have any success with the regular sippy cups.

Oh, we just had the same problem with my son (11 months). We just bought him a gerber cup...and so far is hasn't leaked. My daughter is two and we have alsways given her the cups by first years and have never had a problem with them. Note, both of these brands have hard spouts which my kids like. I do know gerber makes a soft spout one also though. Hope this helps.

I like the Avent sippy cups the best out of them all. They have a few extra parts, but ALL parts are scrubbable, there aren't any nook and crannies for build up to occur and if you happen to lose a cup to under the couch or where ever they do when they disappear for short periods of time you can get it clean without worrying about anything or tossing it out as a write off.
Let's leave the nooks and crannies to the English muffins :)

I love the nuby's but my son did the same thing. The holes in the top though make them great for smoothies! We had to move to the straw cups that nuby makes or just the regular hard top ones or we just watch him with the nuby sippys and take it away as soon as he starts playing.

My son loved the Nuby cups as well until, like your daughter, he figured out how to get all the liquid out by squeezing the top part. We eventually found our way to the Avent sippy cups. He loved them. I think the tops of the Avent cups were similarly shaped to the Nuby cups, so that's why he liked them so much.

Hi! I didn't have time to read thru all the responses so I'm sorry if this has been said, but iluvnuby.com sells replacements for the tops. I think they're 1.75 each. I just had to buy 4 of them lol they ship quickly by Priority mail. Might save you a bit. Good luck!

Has anyone tried the BornFree cups? I saw an article on them when the whole chemical leaching thing came out. I don't know anyone who's tried them yet but I know they are available at WholeFoods and Babys R Us.

We have liked the Playtex sippy cups and the First Years Take and Toss. Both have worked out well for us. The Take and Toss are only spill proof (not leak proof), but we haven't had too much trouble with them.

I love the take and toss cups for something easy and they are BPA free. I agree that the lids wear out and got tired out buying new ones, but then I found you can buy just the lids on their web site for a few bucks http://www.learningcurve.com/product/detail/Y4502?locale=... . I bought several packs because shipping was going to cost more than just the lids, but if you use them, it's worth it and then you aren't throwing out perfectly good cups.

we like the playtex cups. the tops all interchange and there are a variety of cup sizes and some are insulated. You can buy replacement "sopper" which fit inside and can't be broken by the child.

I've had the same issue with my son. I've switched to the Gerber hypercolor ones (they change color when cold liquid is added). The tops are hard, so your child can't stick their finger through & break the seal. I still use the Nuby at home where I can keep an eye on the spilling.

Gerber and playtex are what we use. Gerber has a softer (not quite like the nuby though) spout cup with handles for the little guys which so far my kids have never defeated. Both brands have been very reliable for us, oh until the dog chews one, lol.

My son LOVES the Nuby while I prefer the Gerber or Playtex. Once he is done drinking he takes the remaining liquid and gets it all over the high chair table! Glad to know I am not being picky with this matter and there are other mothers with the same opinion.

If you figure this out, please let me know! I have the same problem. We bought the Clifford cups, and those are terrible. I wouldn't recommend those either. I don't know the brand, sorry. But we got them at WalMart. We have old ones from previous children, but they don't make that kind any more. Sorry I am not much help.

First years Take and Toss cups are great. They are BPA-free and my kids have been using them for years without incident. The lids do get a bit worn after a lot of washing, but you get about 5 or 6 in a pack. They also come in a few sizes and also have a straw lid option. Just be careful with the straw and make sure you put it in after you put the top on.

I use the Born Free sippy cup with a soft spout for my son. (THis spout is also longer than spouts on most hard cups & though it is soft, its much firmer than the nubby spouts. They also have a hard spout you can buy. I haven't tried that one yet.) He's only 9 months old now, so he only uses the cup when he is in his high chair. (So, I can't say how indestructible it is). We both really like the cup. With the soft spout he can chew on it & rub his gums on it, which must feel good b/c he does that a lot. It also flows really easily & he can get a lot out of it. We've tried some playtex cups but either the spout is too short or too hard. He can't drink from them yet. B/c its designed to require less suction it is not completely leak proof. If you hold the cup upside down a few drops will leak out. However, it can lay on its side & roll around & not have leaks. It only leaks when it is completely upside down (at least in my experience). I don't know if this would be the same for the hard spout. They come with a plastic lid that you can put over the top of the whole cup. I've done this & then carried the cup in my purse w/o any leaks. I don't know if this helps you at all, but someone asked about Born Free cups, so I thought I would respond.

Gerber can be dislodged with a throw, but doesn't leak otherwise. I started buying other brands for the summer (insulated) and they all leaked - I've been throwing them out. Decided to use this chance to find a cup that doesn't have BPA in it, despite asking the doc if I should bother (the AAPediatrics won't make a decision yet). Try this link for ideas:

I never used sippies until I got my triplets. I needed to simply everything, lol! I like the insulated sippies, but the inserts can be annoying to wash constantly. So I found the ones with no inserts and insulated are best. They're by The First Years and can get them anywhere. Try this link:
Wal-Mart has two lids for about $2 - one red and one yellow - near the baby juice - fit on Gerber juice bottles - buy a six pack and reuse them - they hold up a very long time - only problem I've had is when daughter has thrown them - hitting hard surface of kitchen floor plus all wear of dishwasher can cause them to leak - take care!

I too liked the Nubys, but I had the same issue....they started leaking terribly. I have had the best luck with Playtex, any kind of Playtex cups. They dont seem to leak and the one way valve doesnt fall out when the cup gets dropped.
Good Luck!

Hi!
I think I had every cup they make and then tried the Playtex insulated Spill-Proof cup with SipEase valve. It is dishwasher safe, comes completely apart for cleaning and rarely leaks. My older son used them and my younger son still uses them. They come in a variety of colors--my kids were color coded so the little guy knew which was his! Good luck!
