Do you have any suggestions on any books that toddlers love? My daughter is 18 months old, and loves Fancy Nancy, Where the Wild Things Are, All Dr. Seuss... what are some of your children's favorites?

What can I do next?

My girls love books. We read all the time. Some of their favorites are "Here are my hands", "Brown bear Brown bear what do you see??" and "Polar bear polar bear what do you hear?". They also love anything with flip ups, etc.

If money is not a problem you can join a book club. I have my son enrolled in Brighter Vision. Every month a new book comes to our house with a cd and an activity. We've gotten some great books this way. The books are good quality and in the stores would cost $15 or so on their own. Each month is a different theme, like helping mommy or the alphabet, or animals. And the music and book follow the theme. They really are great. I've had my son enrolled since he was 6 mos. He is now almost 4 and we've never received a duplicate. They gear it towards your childs age group and we love it. And it only cost $17.99 a month. It's well worth it and every month my son gets so excited because it comes in his name so he gets mail too. Here is the link:

Oh, there are so many!

An oldie but goodie is Richard Scarry--it's so fun to look at all of the pictures and point out what all of the characters are doing. His books are so much more than just the words in them. The detail he puts into things is really fun. And there are so many stories that he has written.

Another great picture book that helps with imagination and observation (and is just plain cute) is Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathman. Wonderful illustrations, and again the detail is fun--my son loves to point out where the balloon is in each picture, and all of the other things. By the same author is "10 minutes till Bedtime" and it's about a hamster tour before bed in a little boy's house. Again, the illustrations are fantastic and you can find all of the hamsters on each page doing something cute!

One of my favorite authors right now is Judy Sierra. "Wild About Books" is really fun. She has more, too "What Time is it Mr Crocodile", and so many more. Great stories that are fun for us as parents too!

My kids love to read, so we go to the library all the time to get books and test them out. My son is 3 now, and my daughter is almost 2. But we've been reading the books I suggested since my little guy was a year old. So they are good for a good range of ages.

Good luck! I am going to keep track of this post, too, so I can see what others recommend!

We have a large variety of baby board books. Some of them are the more expensive ones, and some of them just came from the Dollar Tree. My littlest ones are 27 months, and 17 months, and they really like all the books they can get their hands on. Right now my 27 month old really loves learning. He constantly wants to count, and say his ABC's, so anything with those, and colors are great! We have a Kipper book of opposites that we've had since my 9 year old was a baby, but my 27 month old doesn't care much for that one. A good idea would be going to a big bookstore right around dinner time. Look at all the books that are laying around in the children's section. Those will be the best to get cause those are the ones the kids have taken off the shelves, and that the parents would have been reading right there in the store.

I have 3 little girls and "goodnight moon" is still a big hit with them, also there is "the kissing hand". Since they are girls its all about the colors of the books and how much the publisher put into the book visually. Big bright pictures work well. As for my girls anything PINK is a perfect selection. We go to the library weekly and ours even has a story time with crafts for the little ones to do. Oh look in your book store or library for the "Pigeon" books, hes the main character of these silly books my girls love. In Barnes and Nobles they have a small section and even a stuffed animal of him.

My son is now 27 months. At 18 months he was able to recognize his alphabet, and read out the abc's and numbers. The books he loves are the alphabet, numbers, shapes, animals, and nursery rhymes books. He loves short stories, but I've noticed that the stories he really likes have some family connection such as a mommy and baby, or a daddy and baby... For the most part he loves more educational books, like leep from books.

The books by Sandra Boynton are nice board books.

Eric Carle also writes some great books like "The Hungry Caterpiller". Some of these come in board books. These are also great when your child begins to read.

My daughters enjoyed "Little Bear", "Madeline", and "Clifford, The Big Red Dog".

hi A., there are soo many, basically anything that she is interested in, obviously. but if you are looking for a few staples for her library... great for toddlers: anything by eric carle or leo lionni. the roger priddy books are great for increasing her vocabulary. the laura numeroff books (if you give a mouse a cookie, etc) are great also, lots of fun. so are the dinosaur books by jane yolen. the todd parr books are also great for this age, fun and colorful and nice life lessons. my kids always loved any books with names and pictures of things, especially animals, there are so many that go through the alphabet with an animal for each letter, they love those. the i-spy books are fun to do together. the chris van allsburg books are longer, might be a bit old for her, but they have beautiful illustrations. have fun!
