Hello All,

My little girl who is 13 months has developed a rash that really itches her. It is so strange though, just in the front and back, just below the top of her diaper. Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering if she is sensitive and needs a different type of diaper...
Thanks for your help in advance!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advice; I got the 7th Generation diapers and that seems to be working great.
Thanks again!

It could be heat rash, I would only suspect the diaper if you recently changed. I have a 3 yr old daughter with severe eczema, so I constantly run down a list of what has she been around different. Think of any changes in soap, lotions. try some 1/2% cortizone for iching.

A.,
My son is 13 mo too. We just went to the doctor 2 days ago for what sounds like the same thing. He said it was yeast and prescribed a medicated cream to put on it. It's clearing up already.

I would definitely switch her! The disposables are loaded with chemicals. Some kids are more sensitive than others.

In the meantime, try soaking her in a warm bath with baking soda. It works really well on diaper rash.

If you continue to have problems, you can get chemical free diapers, they are a little pricier. Cloth is an option, it is not as hard as you think.

Good Luck!

It could be heat rash since it is not on the genitals. Try letting her air out more often, and making sure she is completely dry, before putting a new diaper on. If you don't see an improvement I would talk to her Ped. before switching diapers. Hope you figure it out A..

Hey! My daughter did the same thing...she started itching her back right at the top of her diaper...on her back really...not on her bum at all. So it is not diaper rash. I switched diapers a couple of times and finally tried Huggies Pure and Natural Diapers...and the itching stopped! I also use a heavy cream on her back to make sure she doesn't get dry skin. You could buy a small pack to see if it helps...it helped my daughter right away...combined with Eucerin lotion on her back every night. If you like them...you can get them at amazon.com through their subscribe and save program...they send them on whatever schedule you set and you can cancel or delay shipments at any time. It is the cheapest place to get them. ANyway...just an idea!

That definitely sounds like a sensitivity. It's normal to even use the same diaper for a while and then all of a sudden have the sensitivity show up... It could be that the chemicals from the diaper & inks have slowly increased over time.
Try something like 7th generation - they have no chlorine, and no coloring on them. It would be worth it to buy a small pack and switch for a week to see.
We used 7th generation in the beginning, and then a lot of other brands that we got from my baby shower until we ran out, and then started using cloth. We would get disposables when we went out or on vacation...etc. We used huggies or something for a while because the 7th gens were hard to find, more expensive...etc - and after 3-4 months, we had to switch because the inks started breaking her out all of a sudden - could have been that they chemicals built up, or it could have been a change in their manufacturing process (bad economy, trying to save costs, using lower priced materials... or just that the batch was different like any clothing dies, every batch is different...etc). Now we use 7th gen. ordered in bulk from diapers.com - no problems since - much easier and I feel more comfortable with a healthier less-chemicals diaper anyway.

On the other hand - with it being the summer months, it coud be that she is getting hotter now and sweat, possible dirt from playing outside...etc is building up and and irritating it where the diaper moves across the skin.

Just curious...is she in Pampers Cruisers? The same thing happened to my son, so we tried Huggies and it totally cleared up. Weird, I know. Good Luck!

Just reading and came across your "diaper rash" concern. This is going to sound really wierd but try getting some corn starch, heat it up in the oven (on a piece of aluminum foil) for a couple of minutes until its warm - then take the corn starch and put it directly on the rash... that's an old wise remedy but it works!
