I'm thinking pipe covering stuff from Lowes that you could easily stitch a 'sock' over so he couldn't bite off pieces? They must sell something online, maybe One Step Ahead?
I have a standard crib (1" rails). However it looks like a beaver attacked them! Now that my son can stand in his crib he is teething on the rails. I was going to buy the clear plastic crib rail covers but heard lots of bad reviews (they come off easy etc..). Any suggestions on how to protect sons gums and the rails? Thanks.

I feel your pain!! I thought my daughter was part woodchuck for a while there too!! Her crib had been chewed like crazy. But I think someone else on here mentioned the gummi crib rails....they work!! And a alittle bit of sanity for you....they grow out of it pretty quick! :)
I need the same help!
Hi A.,
I had the same problem with my daughter. I was more concerned with her eating the varnish that's on the crib. I tried the gummi version, and everything worked out. My daughter stopped gnawing on the rail.
Here are two options that Babies R Us sells:

Good luck!
Our daughter's crib also looks like a beaver attacked it - that's a great description! I had great luck stopping the chewing with a combination of two things. First, I bought the gummy crib rail protector and stuck that onto the rails. Then, I put the hard plastic protectors on over the gummy ones. They've been on htere for months now, and even my husband and I can't get them off, so our daughter definitely hasn't been able to. I bought both the gummy and hard plastic protectors at Babies R Us. Good luck!
I had never seen this before, till my grandson did the same thing to his crib at the same age! My son-in-law finally wrapped a sheet around the top rail and it has worked great. Of course the baby then found the opposite rail and that had to be wrapped also. They had tried everything else prior to this solution. Good luck...............
I am an alum of Bridgewater State College and received our newsletter and a fellow alum invented some type of crib protecting rail from clothes like a crib bumper, but I am not sure where you can find it, i will do some further research and follow up, but I know it looks somewhat like a bumper guard.
I got a gummy crib rail cover at Babycenter online. LOVE IT! After a few months I did have to remove (easily with hair dryer) and replace it because our teething daughter did begin to pull it up and in that part the adhesive had lost its stickiness. But it really did solve the problem immediately.

Beaver...I'll say! Go buy some of the stuff that you use to put on fingernails to stop them from biting their nails, it has a hot pepper taste I believe...and paint it on the top rail. If that doesn't stop him, I suppose a titanium crib is in order!! Just kidding! Also, in addition to the nail biting liquid, just make sure he has plenty of solid rubber chew toys, since he seems to prefer something "solid" as opposed to a soft chewy teether. All babies handle their teeth coming in in different ways, and it is normal for your little guy to want to chew the crib rails, it is more common than you think, however not a great idea for him to do. One or two times tasting the stuff he should stop. Just make sure you are offering him plenty of other choices and he should outgrow it very soon!
