Help! My Daughter Is Ruining Her $400 Crib!

My 7 month old is biting the sides of her $400 Oak crib. I noticed it this morning. There's bite marks in the wood and she's actually scraped some of the wood off with her teeth. Where can I find something to cover the wood so that she can't do that anymore. We will need this crib for the next baby, so I don't want it ruined! I looked on ebay, but all they have that I found was cloth. I thought they sold plastic lining to put on there. Any advice?

What can I do next?

Just a different perspective - my kids slept in two cribs: one being the one my brother and I slept in and the other being the one my mother, aunt and uncle slept in......the teeth marks Help me think back to when mine were that age....for me, the bed is not ruined but personalized...both cribs will stay in the family for my grands and on...so far, one has been used by five babies and one by eight - all of whom have left their 'mark'......and the beds are beautiful!

I got this catalog from One Step Ahead and they do sell something to turn the crib rail into a teether for your daughter and still protect the crib. Go to www.onestepahead.com and the item number is 09891 Gummi Crib Rail for $14.95. Hope this works for you! Good luck!

Hi Bethany,
I would suggest something called a crib tent. I used them on both of my boys and helped with alot of problems including tossing toys/paci out of the crib and getting their legs caught in the rails and of course totally eliminates any climbing out of the crib. They may seem pricey but well worth for me.

I don't think the rails the last post gave you will help. My son has ruined his PBK crib as well. He bites on the head board and foot board of the crib not the sides. I have not seen anything that will fit on the those sides to keep them from ruining it. I talked with the people at PBKids and they sell a touch up paint to help fix little marks. You might want to look for something like that, but if you bed looks anything like my sons I don't think anything will help these cribs out. If you find anything out there please let me know I would like to able to give our crib to someone who might need one later on, but I would have to give it away in this condition.

If you combine the two suggestions you have already been given you will be ok. The gummy rails work on the long part of the rails. The crib tent has too much slack (at least ours did) to stop chewing on the rail on the long part - but it fits such that they won't be able to bite on the head and foot parts. I do love the crib tent. It really gives you peace of mind when they start jumping around. You know they can't fall or climb out! Anyway, both are available at Babies R Us.

They make a gummi crib teething rail that protects your crib, while keeping your child from ingesting who knows chemicals in the wood of the crib! I bought mine from One Step Ahead...here is the web link - http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId...
Good luck!

I installed a gummy rail this past weekend that I bought at Babies R Us. It gives instructions on how to install it on any side. It can be easily removed with the heat of a blow dryer.

We also bought the Gummi Crib rail, but it's NOT working for us. Baby just keeps pulling it off, and I've bought 2 to try and it hasn't worked for us. We're having the same problem, and are considering selling our expensive crib thru consignment and buying another one with railguards already installed. For now, he's in his pack/play. And, it's a beautiful crib but he's a little beaver!
