Problems with Tummy

Hello everyone! This is such a wonderful place to turn to, although I am kind of embarassed about my problem. Ever since my son was born (now 22 months), I have had chronic diarehha. I had a tinge of the postpartum depression and was put on Lexapro. The problem never stopped and still hasn't. I am really starting to get worried about my health. I have about 10 movements a day and they are not solid ones. The urgency gets really bad too. I can't just "hold it." Has anyone else dealt with this? Should I have a colonoscopy? I would really appreciate some advice here.

What can I do next?

Go to you family doctor or OB/gyn. Diarrhea is a side effect of every med out there......but don't settle for a change in meds if it continues. Keep going back. Also add fiber to your diet.....I know it sounds opposite, but it will help some!!!

I suggest you talk with your gynecologist about this. I seem to remember something about how either elevated or lowered hormone levels can cause digestive issues. It is worth asking and a discussion.

Good luck.

Try eating yogurt (make sure it has live cultures in it) and lace it with acidopholous. Many medications break down the body's natural processes and so we need to put it back to rights. Most doctors will tell you when you have been on a lot of antibiotics or anything that could cause this side effect to do these two things.

Try this and within a few days to a week you should be back to normal stools. If not yo might want to consult your doctor. You can obtain the acidopholous at walmart or any health foods store...lots of pharmacys have it otc as well...

Good luck!

I used to take Lexapro and if memory serves, diahrrea is a side effect I think... I think that is why I quit taking it. That is a long time to be dealing with this issue. If it isn't related to the medication, definitely get it checked out perhaps by a gastroenterologist.

I don't want to scare you but demand an upper g.i. test and full exam of your colon. My avon lady's son died recently because doctors never diagnosed his intestinal cancer. He kept going to the doctor for diarreah and stomach pains and they told him he had ulcers. This started the week of Thanksgiving. He went back every week and again they would send him home. One day his mom took him to UT MEDICAL CENTER IN GALVESTON (in February) because she felt he was getting the run around. There he was diagnosed with cancer and die on Valentines Day. He was 27 years old and left two small children! Demand every test available!

My husband had an issue similar to yours....I would suggest that you see a GI doctor. You may have an infection in your colon/intestine or something else. You have to take care of yourself for your little one!

You need to go see your doctor. I'm not saying that in a "don't be stupid" way. I understand that some people really don't run in to be checked out for every little thing. It might be financial, don't really have a good doctor, or sometimes we are afraid of what things "could be" and that keeps us out of the doctor's office.

But seriously, you deserve to not have to be a slave to the toilet all day long! You need to get to the bottom of this even it just ends up being IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).

Call your doctor in the morning. Don't psych yourself out, just make the call knowing that you are going to start feeling better and be back to normal in a little while.

Good luck!

You need to schedule an appointment with an gastroenterologist. You most likely have Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Ulcertive Colitus. I have Ulcertive Colitus and I felt this horrible pain in my abdomin where your small intestion is, I had it for 1 year before they figured out I have UC. I took some supositories and had to do enemas...Not fun but it helped. And with UC you get the urgencey OMG i have to go now! I only had about 4 of those episodes. But you most likeley have IBS which is cause by stress. I wouldn't waste your time in going to your regular Dr. unless you need a referall to see a specialist. You can look up Austin Gastro that's who I went to. Good luck and hope you feel better.
