Proactiv Vs. Other Brands

Hi Moms,
I am wanting to try Proactiv but was also wondering what other benzoyl peroxide products work the same or better. I was at Walgreens and saw a couple brands comparing their product just as good or better than Proactiv. I'm looking for me, 36 YO and I don't have severe acne but I do seem to always have 2-5 pimples and always oily skin. Any feedback? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Benzoyl Peroxide is Benzoyl Peroxide. :)

I started with Proactiv, and just couldn't see what I was paying that much for the active ingredients that are available everywhere for $5/tube. Proactiv's solutions are loaded with BP and salycilic acid. For me, I can buy those generics for a fraction of the price.

Every night, I do a hot compress before bed (to draw toxins to the surface of the skin), and then put on BP - just the generic cream from CVS. That seems to do the trick for me.

Once you stop usuing Proactiv the breakouts come back. I was also still breaking out and had a skin care consultation with a Mary Kay consultant. I used their Velocity cleanser until my break outs cleared up and then started my Timewise regimine. I have NEVER had nice skin and always had acne in high school, I am excited to say that I actually get compliments! I hadnt seen my ex bf in 6 months and when he saw me for the first time he noticed my skin and asked me what I had done differently. They also have a Blemish Control Toner that I use before my period to avoid break outs or clear up the one or two that I get.

I have not tried all the copycat systems of proactive but I can tell you that Proactive works. It stops the acne before it starts that is why if you stop using it your acne comes back. You don't have to use it 2 times a day. You can start with 2 then once your skin looks good you can go to once time a day and then one time every other day. But you have to use the whole system to work.

Beauti Control has amazing skin care, and it is tailored to your exact skin. You have skin sensors and a quiz that you can take when you visit the website and it narrows down 9 products down to 4 that you need with a possible 2 more that you may want to get for additional overnight moisturizing. It is skin care with Your name on it, nobody else may be exactly like you because it is made for you. It's like going to the department store and saying you want B.'s skin care. And it will leave your skin feeling amazing and looking younger and clearer and feeling so soft. Even my husband noticed the difference in how it felt just after a couple days. It works for oily skin, combination skin, acne prone, sensitive skin, rosacia, dry skin, and wrinkles. It has spf, and regeneration in it. The 4 main products you will get are cleanser, exfoliating polish, toner, and moisturizer.
And it comes directly to your door.
beautipage.com/ldulaney and click on skin spa at the top right. or call ###-###-#### if you have questions

Proactive is bad for you and anyone out there thinking of going on should NOT DO SO. What proactive does to the skin is not remove the dirt, oil and bacteria but pushes it into the furthest layer of the skin where it becomes trapped. Continuous usuage of proactive keeps the dirt, oil and bacteria to stay put. When you stop using the product or take a break, all this build up, resurfaces the skin as it has no where to go. This results in bigger, cyst like acne.

Especially for women older than say, 21. We need moisture! Even acne prone skin NEEDS moisture. I had occasional breakouts and here is what helped me.

-drink more water! I drank pop/coffee 24/7 and getting hydrated helped soo much!

-Buy a mild cleanser, cetaphil is what I use. Right before my period, I switch to the typical teenager acne wash, clearsil etc.

- Use a toner after you wash. I use neutrogena for senstive skin.

- Use a good moisturizer with a spf. I use Neutrogena oil free.

Wash your face twice a day. Once a week I use an exfoliator, st. ives apricot scrub is my fave! And once a month I use a facial mask Freeman superfruits clay mask.

I also switched my makeup to neutrogena skin clearing foundation. Also, make sure to wash off your makeup EVERY night .

Hope this helps, I struggled for years to find the right combination of products, spent hundreds of dollars on useless products!

Proactive really works great. I used it for a while and my skin never looked so good. The only problem that I had was I have very sensitive skin and it was red all the time. Like I got a light sunburn. So if you have very sensitive skin I would watch what you put on your face. I still used it but not all over my face. I only used it in the problem areas. I also used Neutragina (spelling??) That works great too. Keeps your face oil free.
