In Need of a Good Face Wash, That Works!

I am almost 30, and still fighting break outs. I have tried everything under the sun. My face is very oily and tends to be dry. Does anyone know of a good face wash to help with breakouts? I am tired of wasting my money on stuff that doesn't work, or just makes my face worse. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I have tried several cleansers as well. The only thing that works for ME is my Mary Kay. I have oily skin, so I use the Deep Cleanser 3, Blemish Control Toner 3, Acne Treatment Gel and finally the Oil Control Lotion 3. Yes, it is a process! But it is sooo worth it. I have tried many other things, Aveeno, Neutrogena and even the ProActive. Nothing will do it for me like my Mary Kay!

My husband has the same kind of skin you describe, and he likes to use St Ives Apricot Scrub. You can buy it at Walmart, he likes it. Although it did not work well for my teenager and had to take him to a dermatologist for stronger stuff.

I recently switched to the Aveda products (Outer Peace) and they have been working pretty well for me (I've tried several others that did not). My aunt has used Mary Kay for years and swears that is the only line of products of all she has tried that has consistently controlled hers...

I have a combination skin that's acne prone as well. I use Noxema at night to wash my face. In the morning I use a homemade face scrub I use in the shower-
1/2 cup table sugar
1-2 tbs olive oil
1 tbs honey
a few drops of tea tree oil

Mix all together until you get a paste-like consistency and store in an air tight container. This doesn't need to be refrigerated and one batch lasts about a week. Use in the shower to GENTLY scrub your face. I noticed in about 2 weeks, my breakouts became less and less frequent.
Hope this helps!

I have always had acne problems at that time of the month and then sometimes between cycles as well. I tried every face wash out there and found that Mary Kay worked well for me. Right now I am on Beauty Control and it is AMAZING! It is a little pricy for a 4-5 mth supply but my skin has never looked or felt better. My girlfriend sells it so if you would like me to get you info I would be happy to. I have also heard good things about Neutrogena's Skin ID products. You go on their website and answer questions about your skin. They then decide what products work best for your skin. That may be worth a try as well. The website is http://www.skinid.com/econsumer/clearskin/index.view

Good Luck!

The only thing that ever worked for me was Proactive. Its hard now as a mom because it takes some time to do the 3 step system and you really have to do it every other day at the very least. Its a really good product and if you use it once a day or every other day its not that expensive. It sucks doesnt it to have adult acne?? I hope my son doesnt inherit it.

I used Dermalogica products for my acne, but after a few months or so it stopped working for me. I then tried the Patricia Wexler line of Acne products. They are available through Bath and Body Works, although some of the products are only carried online. I have been using them for almost a year now and have had pretty good luck. I only seem to get an outbreak corresponding to my monthly cycle, but it does seem to go away much faster than before using those products.

I am 31 and accidentally found a solution to my acne--using a moisturizer! Last winter my skin was soooo dry, I decided to go ahead and use Neutrogena moisturizer for combination skin, and an unexpected result was my acne started to clear up. I also was still pregnant at the time and advised by my OB not to use medicated cleansers, so used Olay with witch hazel. The two products have been amazing for my acne and skin. Best of luck to you! (As a side note, I used Proactiv for several years with mixed results...it was almost like my skin would become immune to its effects for periods of time, then I'd switch products, and go back to it and it work work, then the cycle would repeat. So far no such resistance with the unmedicated products).

I'm 36 and have always had this skin. What really works for me is washing my face with a facial cleansing soap (right now I have Mary Kay), but I always always always follow it up by using an astringent. Clinique or Biore are the best in my book. I then also put on a moisturizer that helps with acne and also a skin tone corrector. I love Aveeno's Clear Complexion. Another important thing is to always wash your face in these 3 steps every night no matter what! Hope this helps :)

Hi T.,
I started using Proactiv at 27 for the same reason and I haven't had a breakout since. I know that the website or sales person wants you to have it auto delivered every 4-6 weeks but you can arrange to have it delivered as minimum as every 6 months. I would advise you that is is cheaper to have it autodelivered with shipping than it is to buy the same products at the mall, but it is nice to know you can run to the mall if you run out of something. I use the 3 step system and their Daily Oil Control stuff is great. I think you would be pleasently surprised if you tried these 4 steps together.
Good luck!

What works for me is using Aveeno Clear Complexion scrub pads, followed by Neutragena Clean Pore Astringent (morning and night when I can, although sometijmes at night I just use an Oil of Olay cleansing cloth - which does not work nearly as well). For moisturizer I splurge, I use Clinique - they have some nice ones for oily / dry combination skin, one for day and a different one for night.

I am 37 and have always had a problem with mild acne. I am currently using Melaleuca, Zap-It and it works better than anything ever has. I was a loyal client of Mary Kay for many years, but Zap-It is only $20.00 for the whole regiment (cleanser, astringent, moisturizer) instead of the $60+ for the Mary Kay skin care rigiment. You can check it out at Melaleuca.com or email me at ____@____.com if you have any questions. I actually use most of Melaleuca's products for my body, baby and home because they work and they are much cheaper than most competitive products.

I sell a product called BeautiControl. It has been featured in O magazine, Allure, and on the Today show. The skin care products I sell are made for 20s, 30s, 40s, 50+ and sensitive and acne prone skin. They are amazing. So many people fall in love with the skin care. The acne prone works great for my teenagers. The sensitive skin works wonders for my sis-in law. She had rosacea for years, always had a red face, and she has NOT broken out in the 18 months she has been using the product.
The 30s, 40s, 50+ have a product in the toner that is a hair growth inhibitor...
And you dont have to buy without trying. If you would like to have me come over I can bring samples of each and you can try them before buying.
I am a mobile spa consultant. I bring the spa and skin care to you.
If you would like to check out the products my website is www.beautipage.com/ldulaney and my cell is ###-###-####.
Feel free to contact me at any time.

I'm 31 and have the same problem! I recently started using Noxzema Acne foam wash Adult formula, it's new. I use just the foam by itself in the morning and in the evening I use an inexpensive $.99 lofa with the Noxzema foam. I then follow up with Boots No.7 Protect and Perfect Serum. This combo is working for me and it is pretty inexpensive!

I was at a natural food store earlier this week and overhead a lady talking about a oil that Dr. Oz has recently talked about that is suppose to help with acne. I don't remember the name, but that might be something else to check into as well.

Good luck, I hope that you find something that will work for you! I know all to well how frustrating it is to be 30 and have your face looking like a 16 year old.

I use the Dermologica line, I buy the big pump bottel for $48 but it lat me 4-5 months. I have alway shad breakouts and have dry areas and oily areas as well, my hairdresser turned me on to this stuff and I actually have people telling me I have nice skin now (which is wonderful) You can buy it at Ulta I think (but I dont know the cost) If you want to try it I would suggest getting the travel pack which has face wash, toner, lotion, face scrub, and I think refine mask. You can buy on Amazon her is the link to the travel kits so you can see the products you get http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_18?url=search-al...

Have you tried Witch Hazel before washing your face to get the oils and dirt off? I think I have combination/normal skin, but use St. Ive's apricot scrub and sometimes Noxema before bed (just rub in a light layer). I cannot use full-face makeup or I get break outs, but use a Neutrogena moisturizer with sunscreen in it. You might have to re-examine everything you put on your face, not just your cleanser. :(

Oh, it's so hard to advise because everyone will respond just a little differently.

I, too, in my 30's have adult acne, and it stinks.

I've been using Kiehl's Non Detergent Foaming Cleanser for a few years. It's pricey, the only place I can get it locally is Sak's, but it's been worth it for me. Clarins has a great wash, too, but I certainly can't afford it.

I used to use Neutrogena's products, but I had such varied responses because of hormonal fluctuations. I tend to trust their products along with Clean & Clear's, but I have no rationale other than personal experience.

I've dealt w/ acne for two decades, yippee. I've tried EVERYTHING but Proactiv (the fact that they automatically send you the products each month whether you've run out or not turns me off). This is what I'm using now and I aboslutely love it: Kiss My Face Potent and Pure Start Up Exfoliating Face Wash http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=76950&...

AND, the piece de resistance (for use after you wash your face): Neostrata Gel Plus AHA 14. This stuff is absolutely amazing and the bottle lasts me for about 5 months, so totally worth the investment. It is NOT overly drying and I've haven't had a major breakout since I started using it a year ago. It also helps with fine lines and skin texture, too. I actually buy it from this seller on Ebay, who owns a pharmacy. This is the cheapest I've found it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Neostrata-Gel-Plus-AHA-15-3-4-oz-/280...#

Good luck!
