Hi there, I just bought the one a day women's prenatal plus dha. Has anyone used this before? Any reviews or reccomendations for others? This will be my first time to be on prenatels and not sure if I got the right ones or not. Also, the Dha part... can I still eat fish while taking this? I am not pregnant yet

What can I do next?

I preferred Natures Prenatal by Natures Sunshine...it helped keep my energy level up and didn't have the extra stuff I don't need.

The Carlson Labs Fish Oil is one of the best as well as Nordic Naturals. "THIS PRODUCT is regularly tested (using AOAC international protocols) for freshness, potency and purity by an independent, FDA-registered laboratory and has been determined to be fresh, fully potent and free of detrimental levels of mercury, cadmium, lead, PCB's and 28 other contaminants."

Now is a great time to start taking a really good supplement. DHA is very important for brain development. You can and should continue to eat fish, but you do have to watch what kind you eat and how often. Wild caught fish is much preferred to farm-raised. Also the larger the actual size of the fish means you would want to eat less of it in a given time frame. For example tuna is a large fish and is okay to eat, but usually no more than 1x a week. The larger the fish the higher the concerns of mercury levels in the fish. Salmon is an excellent choice.

I have a call you can listen to by Nedra Sahr who is a Certified Nutritional Specialist. The call talks about having a healthy pregnancy from prior to conception all the way through pregnancy. There is also some good information on dealing with morning sickness in case you have that problem when you get pregnant. Here is the link where you can listen...http://bit.ly/cWPyFA.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

There have been lots of positive studies on DHA and how it is believed to help with brain development. I took the prenates that had the DHA and had no problem with them. I would recommend them.

Yes, you can still eat fish, just do your research and be careful of the ones that are known to have higher levels of mercury. Your OBGYN should be able to steer you in the right direction in terms of what kinds of fish and how often. The amount of DHA in the prenates is relatively low. When I was pregnant, I was told "the more, the better" wrt to fish oil (DHA).

I took the one a day while pregnant with my little girl and am still taking them while nursing. My Dr said they were just as good as the prescription kind. I ate and still eat fish every week.

Good luck on your upcoming pregnancy! Yes, you can (and should) still eat fish while taking a fish oil or Dha supplement. I recommend Nordic Naturals fish oil capsules as they are one of the safest sources. You need to be able to trust the brand of supplements you're taking...they are NOT all the same! Try to eat mainly wild-caught fish vs. farm-raised. The farm-raised fish is fed corn, which adds to the imbalance of Omega 6 vs. Omega 3 that creates our need to supplement Omega 3!

As for prenatal or any other type of vitamin, I recommend a whole food supplement instead for greater absorbency and effectiveness in the body. Make sure you review the science behind it. You can find a great one at www.GoodHealthMadeSimple.com.

Since you're trying to get pregnant, you would also want to supplement with a good folic acid supplement. Ask your local health food store for their recommendation.

I also teach 3 different workshops for women who are trying to get pregnant, are already pregnant or are nursing. You can view the schedule and description of classes at http://bit.ly/LEANschedule or message me for details.

Good luck to you!

Yes you can still eat fish. DHA is great for brain development...which is why it is in formuala these days. As for the type of vitamins, in our home we use Oligo (and yes they have prenatals too). They are more absorbable so you get more of the nutrients that are in them.
