Pregnancy After a Tubal

I had my tubes tied following the birth of my daughter in January 09. It was done at the same time as my c-section. There were complications and I had internal bleeding, but the doctor said that she completed the tubal and everything should be fine. My period resumed and has been very consistent-28 days which for me was new because I had always been irregular. Anyway, it has not come this month and even though I am only 2 days late, I am concerned. Should I be worried? Any feedback would be appreciated. We just moved and I don't have a doctor yet and really don't know anyone to get a recommedation. Thanks and Happy Mother's Day.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just wanted to say thank you so much for the responses. My period started and feeling very relieved. I guess part of me is so sad as well because the reality is that I will never be pregnant again. Thanks again for your responses...they were just the encouragement and support I needed.

My mom got pregnant almost three years after her tubes being tied! It can happen. Unless they were tied and burned than it can happen. I wouldn't be too stressed though just take a test if it doesn't come in a few days. Do you have any other symptoms that might lead you to believe you are pregnant as well? let us know how it turns out!

You should at least take a test. I know of 3 instances (and these aren't word of mouth, but people I know personally) who have gotten pregnant after a tubal. My own doctor advised me to go the vasectomy route with my husband because (unless you have a c-section like you did), tubals are far more invasive, expensive -and she actually said this -FAIL MORE THAN PEOPLE THINK! She said to me that while it's unusual, tubes grow back together and more people than you would think get pregnant after them. SO test if you don't get your period soon -it can happen!

I wouldn't be really worried. You mentioned that you just moved. Do you think the stress of moving and relocating could have delayed your period? That is quite possible. You can always pick up a pregnancy test at your local pharmacy if your period doesn't come in a few days. Also, call your local hospital, ask for labor and delivery, and request a referral to a couple of good OB/GYN's or even midwives (if your lucky!) after explaining that your new in town. Those L & D nurses will be able to direct you to a good doctor if you're still concerned about your period not coming. Hang in there!

You had a tubal ligation! It is highly unlikely that you're pregnant. There are other reasons for a period to be late. Two days is not late enough to be concerned about those other reasons. Were you concerned when your periods were irregular before the birth of your baby? Think of being late now in the same way you thought of it back then. This is just a fluke of nature, the luck of the draw, or any way that you can say it so you'll remind yourself that nothing is, by nature, always the same. You are not pregnant!
