Hi N.,
I live in Melbourne Beach and have heard great things about Gemini elementary school. I take my almost 3 year old to Grace Lutheran preschool which I and my son are very happy with. There is also As We Grow Daycare on the same street. I hope that helps some. I don't know much at all about the schools in Melbourne or Palm Bay. Best of Luck to you.

A lot of the public schools have teh VPK program. I would say wait and see where you move to see if the public school is a decent one and also if they have any VPK spaces available. It would be nice and easy to send them to school together.

I am a little biased maybe, but I think Palm Bay Christian and Odyssey Charter school are very good. My daughter is in Odyssey and my son is in Palm Bay Christian. The preschool is very good and they participate in the free Pre-K program, they have a flexible before and after program that works well if you have a changing schedule, and they are priced well.

Odyssey uses a Montessori style curriculum along with other state approved curriculum. To get in the students go through a lottery, where applications are randomly chosen and numbered in the order they are chosen. If there are not enough positions available the remaining applicants go on a waiting list, because many positions may open up if some of the lottery winners change their mind or don't finish registration procedures on time. As far as I know all the charter schools run a lottery like this. My daughter was actually #30 on the Kindergarten waiting list and she just barely got in right before registration started. So far everything is going wonderfully.

I substitute at several other schools also, and I really like Riviera, and Palm Bay Elementary. I hope this information helps. I will also add two links so you can do some internet research on the local schools here. This is the county school site, and if you go to the school section they have links to the school web sites http://www.brevard.k12.fl.us/. This is the Schools of Choice site, they have lots of information about alternatives to the regular public schools if you are interested, like available charter schools, magnet schools acadamies, homeschool options and other options http://schoolchoice.brevard.k12.fl.us/.
