You are probably confusing her. You might have accidents at the store but if might help her. Leave her in diaper at night pull ups really are just a diaper with a more expensive price plus the diapers hold more.
I am looking for help on potty training. My soon to be 3 year old on Aug 5. She is so ready she can take her diaper and put another one on. She knows when she is wet and will asked to be change. So we are in underpants all day long with a few accidents. When sh has a bm it does not bother her at all to sit in it UGH. Also what do i do when we need to go in to the car and stores. Do I leave her in underpants or put on a pull up. I feel we are confusing her by going back and forth. At night we have diapers but my start pull ups soon. What do i do please help.

I think it is confusing to go back and forth between underpants and pull-ups. I would suggest taking her to the potty before you go to the car and then remain in underware for trips. Maybe she'll start to ask more when feeling the urge to go to the bathroom, once she knows she doesn't have the pull-ups to rely on. Keep a few extra changes handy when going out somewhere too, just in case.
I just went "cold turkey" with all three of my girls and they were all potty-trained within a week - night time included. The pull ups are confusing - still a diaper - so just use underwear and they will get the idea once they have to sit in it. It takes a week of laundry but worth it in the long run. Good luck!
It'll probably be easier than you think....and cleary she is ready! Just decide and stick with it. Put her in either nothing (I think works best) for the first day or so-stay at home and put a potty in the room with you. Having her in nothing- she won't be able to just sit in it-- and it'll prompt her more to get to the potty. Remind her often to try to go on the potty. She'll probably start to go and then run to the potty. After a day or so-- undies and that's it. Remind her often, have her try on the potty before you go anywhere, and bring the potty with you-- you can always pull over and use it in the back of the car, or on the road even. If you go to stores, make sure you know where the bathrooms are-- and again prompt her before every "change of scenery"-- into the car, into a store, etc. It's likely to only be one or two days and you'll wonder why you ever hesitated. Good luck!
i'm in the middle of potty training too. my daughter will be 3 aug 27, and she's going to preschool 2 days a week in Sept. and needs to be trained by then.
she does pretty well during the day at home in underwear. i've been putting a pullup on when we go out - and she just thinks it's another diaper and pees in it.
when we're home, i hear her run to the bathroom, she pees and i go in, she wants to dump the potty into the big potty and flush, she pulls up her underwear all by herself.
we just got back from vacation and i've decided we're going to full underwear from here on out. i'm going to get one of those piddle pads for the carseat. i also have a smaller potty seat for the car. i have a SUV, so i'm going to leave a little kit in the back of the car (potty seat, wipes, a few pairs of underwear, clorox wipes to clean the seat).
i have the cotton training pants that she's in now. i have dora, ariel and tinkerbell underwear for incentive that when she has a day with no accidents she can get to wear a pair.
i haven't even started night training yet.
I'm not generally a doctor phil fan but I heard he had a good show about potty training a long time ago. When I was having trouble with one of my kids, I went on line and googled dr phil potty training to find the link. It worked really well for us. It involved using a doll that can potty and involving your daughter in teaching the doll to use the potty. It also involved VERY frequent trips to the potty the first day. I had to set aside a day to just focus on this but it really worked and my child surprisingly loved the whole process. Good luck!
If you are worried about her having an accident while you are out, you could try putting a pull-up on over her underwear. We call tell my son that they are his "travel pants". That way, she will still feel wet, but not wet through to her clothes and car seat. I always leave a potty in the back of the car, too. As for the pooping, you could try a reward chart. I would not take way the diapers at night unless she is able to stay dry for several nights in a row. Good luck!
Hi -
we had some trouble with potty training & went to a seminar - it helped us a TON! Here's the highlights.
1) get rid of all diapers/pull-ups/overnights - get big kid undies & only use those - accidents will happen - be prepared to do a lot of laundry for about 2 weeks.
2) set up a super fast reward system - they suggested m&M's or jelly beans - 1 for sitting on the potty, 2 for success - the reward needs to be super fast. I had M&M's in my purse, in both bathroom medicine cabinets & at my in-laws house.
3) ask your kid every 30 minutes if they want to go potty, if they say no - show no emotion, just shrug it off & ask again in 30 minutes, if they have an accident - show no emotion, shrug it off, change their clothes & ask again in 30 minutes.
It took about 2 weeks - a lot of laundry - but it worked.
My son was nervous about going out while we were potty training. He always wanted to know where the bathroom was (and whether there would be one), and on top of that he was afraid of public toilets (especially the ones that flush automatically). So I got him a travel potty from onestepahead.com. I haven't used it a ton, but it definitely made the training period easier and more comfortable. We took it with us whenever we went out. You can even pull the car over if need be.
I found that using pull-ups, diapers, and underwear did confuse my son. He couldn't remember when he was wearing underwear and had more accidents that way. So we used a pull-up only at night for a while, but my son would hold his bowel movements all day and then poop as soon as he got the pull-up on. So we decided to ditch the pull-up altogether (he hadn't yet pooped on the potty), and we were sure we'd just be doing lots of laundry in the morning. To our surprise, he made it through the night AND pooped on the potty. Even if you ultimately decide your daughter is not ready for underwear at night (some kids wear pull-ups at night for quite a while, although they are trained during the day), you might try using underwear at night temporarily just to see what happens.
