I have a 2 1/2 year old son. I think he is ready to be potty trained. He uses the toilet every night before bathtime. Can someone give me advice on a book or website to prepare to fully potty train him?

Just start putting him in underwear and taking him often. We use stickers. #2 is a little more difficult, I just recently learned that they use different muscles and techniques when they bend their legs (as they have from the beginning) to sitting on the toilet. Good luck...they all learn eventually.

I have a 19-month old girl that just started potty training too. I haven't gotten any books but I use the Pampers website. They have lots of good articles and tips on potty training. Good Luck!

Hello,Mom of One
You don't need a book to help u potty train your son. You have it as a woman and a mother it's just something you do. Okay he goes before bathtime. Well u can use this time. What you have to start doing is getting him up during the night to take him to the bathroom. Question: Do you know when boys or men in general have to go to the bathroom? Well if not here is how u tell They stick out. So in the middle of the night Check and get him up. During the day it has to be the same routine. Ask a daycare.. Buy a whole lot of underwear or pull-ups whichever you want to start with. Get a potty. So that during the day he gets the urge he can try himself.

"Mommy I have to Potty" - get it from the library. It is short, sweet, and super helpful. It will walk you through the process step by step. Good Luck

Hi C.,

I'm a working mother of a set of boy/girl 5-year old twins and when it was time to potty train them I almost dreaded it. But to my surprise, it went over very well and happened in 2 weeks. To this day no "accidents" in bed at all. The one thing I remembered about training my son was to try and make it fun for him. I took fruit loops and cheerios and put them in the toilet for him to "aim" at. He begain to tell me (more often than I thought) that it was time to go potty because he liked the "game".

There are a couple of books I remember reading to them as well. Here are the titles: Once upon a potty (boys) by Alona Frankel and Potty by Milo Freeman.

It also helped that everytime my husband went to the restroom, he'd take my son. He looked at going to the potty as a "big-boy" thing to do.

Good luck!!

I would NOT use pull ups except for at night and maybe on trips or if you are going to be out and don't know if you'll be close to a bathroom. I just don't think they work...too much like diapers IMO. Use good training underwear...the thick cotton ones...to begin with since they aborb much more than "big boy underwear". I would use pull ups at night though. If he were in daycare you would have to use pullups there but since you are a stay at home mom you don't have that to deal with. Let him take his time, don't push or pressure him to get trained on a certain timetable. It will happen when HE wants it to happen not sooner. I learned this from my boys...now ages 17 and 14...they weren't potty trained until 3 1/2 and 3 and 11 months respectively! Yes I got frustrated, but when they were ready it literally happened overnight. My 9 year old daughter was different...she trained herself by 22 months. She went to the bathroom with me everytime I went, which helped. My youngest is 21 months. She is showing some early signs of readiness, wants to go to the bathroom when I do, sits on her potty, etc, but hasn't actually done anything on it. But I'm letting her take the lead.
