Hi C.,
Well I've been using Renew from Melaleuca. Nothing else working on my rash, other than cortizone creams (and that never got rid of it). Renew did. ask me how you can get it!
Another idea is Calendula.
Blessings,

A few weeks ago my 18 month old daughter developed a couple of pimples on her chin just beneath her lower lip. I wasn't concerned since she's gotten a few random pimples before, but now there is a cluster of them (13 to be exact- yes, I counted them!). They are very tiny, the size of a pinhead but one is slighty larger, and the area around them is pinkish. They are not whiteheads, just pimple-looking. She is not teething and has not been drooling, nor has she ever developed a rash around her mouth from drooling/teething before. She's never used a pacifier, she does suck her 2 middle fingers, but again, she's never developed a rash from sucking her fingers before. I'm just hoping it's not foot and mouth disease, or some kind of a rash. I should also say that she does not show any sign of pain or agitation whatsoever. I guess I would just appreciate some feedback before I call the doctor. Thanks!
It was chapped skin from the cold, dry air. I tried Aquaphor and it helped a little, but then tried Renew by Melaleuca and it cleared up after only a day!

Sounds like it might be "hand, foot, mouth" disease. Both my kids had it and the doctors told me that by the time you see the rash, it's not contagious anymore...that's why it IS so contagious, no one knows they have it. The sores may occur on the inside of the mouth, but they absolutely show up around the outside too. As the name indicates, it shows up on any or all of these three places.
It could be Impetigo. My son was just treated for it with 10 days of antibiotics. I was horrified that he could've gotten it but it's common. Bacteria that is naturally found on our skin gets in a little crack and there you go. So, I'd call the doctor ASAP. Good luck!
Here's an old child care provider remedy. After each meal, and before sleep, clean the area with water, dry and apply some vaseline. This keeps any saliva from her thumb sucking off of the rash and it usually clears it up. If she has had a cold recently, her saliva might be irritating her more than usual. Impetigo is something to think about and that's an infection. Its major distinguishing feature is yellowish, crusty scaly stuff around the red parts. The doc just gives antibiotic for that. If it is Impetigo, it just gets bigger instead of clearing up until you get the medicine.
My son has just developed the same thing... It eventually turns into pretty chapped skin and it seems to happen with the change of the seasons. The best thing is Aquaphor (found in any drugstore in the lotion aisle--made by Eucerin). Our doctor said that this will keep it well-moisturized and is safe to have by the mouth. Keep applying it throughout the day and it should be gone in a couple of days. Hope this helps! Good luck!
I didn't see any mention of thrush or yeast. My 12 month old daughter had little pink bumps around her mouth for about 2 months. They seemed to come out more when the area got wet, like after eating and bathing. Her 'rash' would come and go, but never really got worse. Her pediatrician suggested using anti-fungal cream for 2 weeks and to santize all of her pacifiers. We have been treating it with Lotrimin for about a week and it finally seems to be getting better. We have been kissing her and playing with her paci's and it doesn't appear to be contagious, but I know that thrush and/or yeast infections are both contagious. Regardless of the treatment you go with, I would encourage you to keep your hands and toys clean (at least as clean as you can manage!).
I have one little one that gets that all the time. It gets chapped and then the dots are infection. We just use triple antibiotic ointment. It is over the counter usually next to the band-aids. If that doesn't clear it up nearly overnight, then I would go to the doctor.
could it be impentigo?
Hey C., I think that she might be too little for this, but I have a condition called "perioral dermatitis" it looks like red bumps or a rash and it can occur near lips, and on the chin. Some peple get it near their noses and eyes too. Like I said, she's very young, so I don't think this is what it is, but I can tell you that from all the research I did into this....I stopped using products that contained "sodium laurel sulphate" on myself and my 22 month old daughter. After years of experiencing this rash...it has went away.....
You can google this ingredient....almost all soaps have it as it is a foaming agent that increases the amount of bubbles and is cheap for companies to use. You can find products that say, "sodium laurel sulphate free or sls free" at your local food co op or target. I use a product called "California Baby" for my toddler. It is expensive, but I use it sparingly for shampoo and body wash, and I never worry about what is in it, and I never waste time at the stores anymore smelling and looking for new soaps (which I used to LOVE to do). After research, I found out that a lot of baby products have some pretty crazy ingredients, so I just stick with California Baby and don't worry about it....
There is a website about products that you can check out if you're interested, it is called Skin Deep Cosmetics Database:
http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.php?nothanks=1
You can enter in the current products you use and see how they are rated for safety......it's easy to go there and get a little freaked out or over concerned about your shampoos and whatnot....but it can help you determine which products are a little more natural like California Baby.....
Good luck with your little tulip...I hope her rash clears soon......
Impetigo. We just finally got rid of it. It was spreading all over his face after we were trying to treat it for fever blisters, and we ended up going into urgent care and put him on an antibiotic, and it still took over a week for it to clear up. Bacitracin may work, unless it is spread too far.
Doesn't sound like HandFootMouth (thoes sores are on the inside of the mouth.) Our Peds doc says that most babys/toddlers have some type of skin irritations for no reason and as long as it isn't hurtful, interfering with breathing/eating, that it usually clears up it self. I have sometimes put lotion/vaseline on to just keep it from drying out anymore. For things on the face, I would just leave it alone so you don't get anything in her eyes that would burn. Good luck!
My daughter had the same thing and the only OTC remedy that would work was Burt's Bees Res Q ointment. It's in a green tin and you can get it in some grocery stores that have an organic section.
We never took her to the dr because the ResQ stuff worked well. Hope that helps!
Hi C.-
You might want to watch to see if they weep- it might be impetigo- common around the mouth area- staph. It's highly contagious so I'd apply bacitracin to the area and see if it doesn't go away by Monday- then take her in. Impetigo gets crusty overnight as it gets bigger and then weeps. Could be yeast too- things around kids mouths are hard to diagnose without seeing.
