Does he drink any juice? Apple juice is famous for mouth rashes. Take him off all juices and see what happens...

Do you have any tips for clearing a rash around a baby's mouth? My son has had it for about 3 weeks. He had it before when he was younger, but it wasn't a problem for several months. I've been trying to keep it clean and using Vaseline to keep the moisture out. Do you know of anything else that might help? I don't think it's a food allergy since we haven't changed his diet.

sometimes foods that they can have in small amounts they aren't alergic to, but having more of the same will, so even though you don't think it is food, it sounds like it could be. Like too much orange juice, tomato or strawberries can cause a rash around mouth on some people.
Hi A.,
I have used Mary Kay's Extra Emoillent Night Cream for rash's, dry skin, irrated skin, dry noses, etc. It is a cream for everything. If you dont have a consultant let me know and I can help you.

Is it a rash or dry skin? If it is a rash, I have had success with hydrogen perioxide....but that can dry out the skin too. So if it is dry, I might not want to use that or use it with neosporin.
If you research hydrogen perioxide, you be surprized at its uses.
If it's just red, chapped skin from drooling/teething and dry air, I would just try to keep the area dry and use lanolin rather than Vaseline. Petroleum products can further irritate the skin, and may even be a carcinogen.
If it's truly a rash, I would have his doctor look at it.
As others have already suggested, Aquaphor is awesome. However, if for some reason the Aquaphor does not work, I would try the original Neosporin ointment because of the antibiotics it contains. That usually did the trick. Hope all goes well.
My grandkids both had this same thing. I also believe it's from teething. We used a lot of chapstick, since it seemed like that kept the moisture out.
use diaper rash ointment the one called butt paste. it has multiple uses not just for diaper rash!!!
I know several moms who were having the same problem with their babies and they started using Arbonne's Baby Care products to clear it up. I am an Arbonne Independent Consultant so please feel free to contact me if you would like any more information.
I hope your son's rash gets better soon.
My 13 month old daughter is teething, drooling a lot, so she has the same problem. She, my son & I all have eczema, so a friend recommended Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream. I have really noticed a difference. You can get it at Target in the baby section.
Ahh, not vasoline. The petroleum/petrolatum ingredient is actually pretty bad for skin. I recommend keeping it clean and dry. When you do apply something, make it coconut oil/butter (same thing). It's sold in the cooking oils section of nicer grocery stores. Use coconut oil which is antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, and also soothing. If you question me, just google "benefits of coconut oil for skin." You'll see! Hope it clears up soon!
I had this same problem with my eldest son when he was a baby. It was really bad in the winter time and nothing seemed to help. I ended up doing some research on the internet. I found some really awesome rash cream called Resinol. I promise this stuff rocks! It's great for the whole family and can cure a mean rash within 12-24 hours. I don't think that you can get it without special ordering it. I got my first one through Walgreen's and just got my 2nd (lasted four years) online.
Hope this helps,

This same thing happened to both of my babies because of drool and skin irritation from constant moisture. Their pedi told me with my first (who is now newly 3) to get EUCERIN cream (and I actually think it is made by the same people as Aquafur as I saw suggested below)! IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM! I kept it on at all times then and still have a lot left over ( a little bit goes a long way) that I use at this time of year on them now (my youngest is 18 mos. and I have the 3 year old)!
It is not that expensive and lasts forever and is fine for face for babies!
Hope this helps!

Try Braggs Apple Cider vinegar 50/50 solution with water. Braggs is awesome for rashes. When my daughter gets a rash on her body. I put a few cups of ACV with her bath water and within hours her rash disappears. Make sure it is Bragg's because it contains live enzymes.

In my opinion it's probably due to teething. I have seen a lot of children get it from that. I watched a boy that had it the 2 years he did most of his teething. Soon as he was done it went completely away. I think your doing all you can do.

There is also a kind of yeast infection kids can get around their mouths. If the Aquafor and such don't clear it up, you may want to check in with pediatrician to rule out thrush and yeast.
It could still be a delayed food allergy. It can take a while for the antibodies to build up to the level to the point that there's a noticeable physical reaction. From what I've learned (and I have LOTS of allergies), what's happening with the skin is also likely happening in the gut. Wheat, dairy and nuts are the most common allergens, although corn is another one and one of the MOST ubiquitous.
My older boy had something similar. Finally took him in and turned out to be impetigo - treated with topical antibiotic for about a week and has stayed gone. WOuldn't go away otherwise. Search impetigo on the web - look at the example pics and see if that's what it is. Might require a trip to the MD.
My almost 15 month old has the same problem. When she is teething she drools so much that it causes a rash around her mouth. I use a tiny amount of cortisone cream..which usually works very well. Or if it seems dry or irritated I put Eucerin or Aquaphor on it. This really helps too. Good luck!
Since it's lasted so long, are you sure it's not thrush? If it is, you'll need antibotics.
Aquaphor is another good ointment to try.
Hi,
My daughter had a rash around her mouth for several months that I treated it with cortaid because I thought it was ezcema. After several visits to the pediatrician with 2 different types of medicine and the rash still there, my husband took her to a dermatologist. He confirmed the ezcema and gave her a steriod for one week and now we apply Protopic daily.
I put Aquaphor on my daughter's chin/mouth area just before she goes to sleep and it looks so much better the next morning.
It could be a fungal (yeast) infection. That is a common place for it to occur to due drooling, etc. Especially in the corners of the mouth. As a dental hygienist I see that quite often. If your boy was older I'd suggest rubbing a little over the counter anti-fungal cream on the area - but you may want to check w/ you pediatrician first. If it the area has a yellow crust on the reddened area, then I would guess Impetigo as well, which will require antibiotics. Good luck.
My 4 year old has a rash around his mouth right now too. It came on pretty suddenly, so I took him to the doctor yesterday, and they said it was impetigo. It doesn't look like the kind of impetigo I've seen before - he just has a few red bumps - but evidently there are two different kinds. They prescribed a topical cream for 3-5 days. You might check with a doctor to see about that.
try boudreaux's butt paste. you can find it in the baby lotion/oil section. good luck.
