Moe, Hi am a sahm of 3 (11yrs,9yrs, and 3yrs)I also am having a problem w/my 3yr old doing the same thing and she goes to pre-school 3hrs only so she waits until she gets home to put on a pullup and poop. She pees in the toilet no problem and wears panties all day except for when she has to poop. She did poop 2x's in the toilet but than all of a sudden stopped, I have heard that doing poop in the toilet is very traumatic to them (don't know why). I never had a problem w/my other two but my niece who is now 9yrs old had the same problem. My sister in-law put her in panties and thought it would eventually have to come out but unfortuntely she did get sick and almost had to have surgery so becareful w/that. I figure eventually she will learn to do poop in the potty. I also have my children take her to the potty w/them, so they can show her that pooping in the potty is okay not scary. I hope this helps. I also moved here about a 1yr ago from ILlINOIS (plainfield) about an hr. outside of CHICAGO.

Hi Moe G,
I would just give her time. My son would squat by the door and poop in his pullup. Everytime I tried to get him and put him on the potty, he would stop and not poop for days. So eventually I just stopped and tried again in a feww months. My pediatrician assued me that he would eventually train and he did. He is five now and doing great, although he still has trouble wiping himself. Good luck and don't worry!

Hi Moe,
My experience tells me that you daughter is lookng for more control in her life. That is the number one reason I have seen for children with poop retention issues. At some level your daughter is feeling out of control in her life and she does not have any other way to deal with these feelings. Please look at her life from her eyes and see what changes you can help facilitate so that she feels like she get to make more decisions in her life(Age and situation appropriate.)
I wish you the best,

My daughter does the same thing but I do put a pull-up on her every night so she doesn't hold it in that long. I hear these comments to figure out why she is doing this but wouldn't have the first clue how find that out. If you find something that works let us know.
Good Luck!

Hi Moe-
Talk to her doctor. I know from experience if you let this go on, it can become a BIG problem. My son would hold it for days as well because it hurt him and the longer he held it, the more it hurt and it would just continue to escalate until he finally needed medication. I was told in some cases it can even become a situation where surgery is needed because the child develops and enlarged bowel than cannot be reversed any other way. But she is still very young, don't worry your doctor can give you many suggestions on how to deal with this and possibly prescribe something if they feel it is needed. Good luck! I know it's frustrating, but if you find out why she's doing this now it will be better!

My son did that-I put him in underwear, luckily I am a teacher and did it during the summer. After a few disgusting accidents with a little gagging involved..problem solved, my son ALWAYS goes poo-poo in the potty.

At what age do you guys feel that you should kinda give them a push about it. My son who is now 3 has been peeing in the potty since he was about 17months old. (potty trained him self so he could be like the older kid next door i use to babysit at times) He has been out of a diaper since then but we still have to keep some in the house. Because when its time to poop he will bring me one to put on him. (i just cant get him to go on the potty...)
