Hi there, A....

My first advice is this: go onto www.womentowomen.com and look under "understand your body"...it will help you understand what is going on in your body with your hormones. On this page, they have a wonderful list of symptoms on the left side of the page that you can click on and one that specifically talks about PMS...I highly recommend that you read this.

2) Check out: www.herbalremediesinfo.com/pms.html Once on this page, click on the green tab that says: (PMS/Premenstrual Syndrome/Female Irritability Symptoms, Information & Causes) that is at the top of the white page. It will tell you about many different herbs that help with different symptoms. I really like this company and have used many of their tonics with great success. Their site has a lot of great information.

3) www.swansonvitamins.com (look under health articles and click on the 'women's health' tab

Due to the fact that our hormone levels all differ from one another there really isn't an 'all for one' cure...you really have to tune into your personal symptoms---such as listing your top five in order of the distress that they cause you and then specifically read up on what vitamins/minerals/herbs are good for your particular symptoms and see if you can't find a complex that would work best for you---just make sure that whatever vits/mins/herbs you find are listed at the beginning of the ingredient list for that particular complex. What I DO know from not only personal experience, but also from years of research is that if you have really bad headaches and cramping from your PMS---taking the daily recommended dosage of Magnesium Oxide each day of the month works WONDERS for this. It is a natural muscle relaxant. And, if you have trouble with bloating, the best thing to do is drink lots of water (yep :)) during your cycle and stay away from salt as much as possible.

If you are just looking to try an herbal remedy to see if you can get relief, then I can tell you that I have heard great things about a product called "Femalite" from Native Remedies.

However, I must add this: If after reading up on the material you believe that you may be headed for the early stages of perimenopause (if you aren't already there or past) then my highest recommendation is that you get your hormones checked through a saliva check...you can do this through Martin Avenue Pharmacy in Naperville and it will show you your exact hormone levels and where you are deficient or in excess. The pharmacist is wonderful at helping you to balance your hormone levels naturally---I worked with him about 3 years ago. If you have any more questions you can contact me personally.

Best wishes to you and I sure hope you (and your hubby) find relief! :)

I would agree with getting your hormones checked. If you are low in progesterone, you can have a lot of things happening - irritability, mood swings, forgetfulness, bloating, headache, sleep issues, etc. Sound familiar? Dr. John Lee is a leader in women's health issues regarding hormone imbalance and there is a great natural bio-identical hormone balancing cream made from yams. If you would like more information, give me your email address and I will forward information to you. Yes, you can be helped without drugs or chemicals. I'd be happy to help if I can.

My doctor suggested I try SAM-e, you need to take it consistently to help. It is a bit pricey but it does help me quite a bit.

If you have bad cramping, I would suggest taking a calcium supplement and a magnesium supplement. As a teen, I had terrible cramps (to the point of where I'd just end up in the fetal position and sometimes I threw up), and my dad's friend (who is a dietitian) suggested that I take calcium and magnesium. After I started taking those, I felt like a human being again.

I had horrible periods. It got worse over the years and it may have contributed to failed relationships in the past and almost ruined the one that I am currently in to a good man. It also contributed to missed days of work and not being there for my kids. I couldn't go on just dealing w it anymore. I thought it was hormone imbalance or maybe perimenopause, but I went to my Dr to see if there was anything she could do to help me diagnose this and get help. She put me on Wellbutrin XL and I had my 1st period w/out any horrid experiences! It was a lifesaver for me. Please go see your Dr. There is no need to suffer any longer! Good luck!
