My vote is for Spencer.

Even though Lynken is a nice name, I wouldn't spell it any other way than the traditional Lincoln if you end up choosing that over Spencer. People will screw up the spelling for his entire life if you spell it that way.

I vote for Spencer. I guess I just like more traditional names though for the reasons that other posters mentioned. People constantly mispelling or mispronouncing his name. Lynken is just too trendy for me.

Spencer. It goes nicely with your daughters' names. If you decide on Lynken, please, for his sake, spell it the traditional way. Especially given we live in the Land of Lincoln, people will wonder why you spelled it the way you did and he will be forever spelling and pronouncing his name to others.

As a teacher, when children's name are spelled in a non-traditional way, I find tha5t kids have a vry hard time. They are always correcting someone. If you go with Lynken, I would spell it Lincoln. But my vote is for Spencer. i think it goes better with Kelsey and Jordan. Good luck and keep us posted!

I like Lincoln spelled the common way. I don't like when names are spelled in a way someone can make fun of it. Think of when he is going for a job interview. You want a strong name that refects your values. You want your son to be someone people respect not think is cool:)I do like Spencer too. I would just wait and see. my husband and I had a few names in mind and then he had a dream that our daughters name was Olivia :)

I like Spencer better. I agree with some of the other moms. It would be frustrating trying to correct people his whole life. Maybe use it as a middle name. Good luck!

The thing I always think about with trendy names is that they will have them all their lives, even when the trends change. Gradation, marriage vows, death. Are you going to be comfortable with those? What about the spelling-always spelled wrong?

Good luck! Congratulations!!!

Hi J.. I'm operating on a few hours of sleep (due to two sick toddlers), so my reaction may have been different if I was fully rested. When I first saw Lynken I thought you were trying to combine yours and your husband's names (Lynn and Ken). And, since I only skimmed your note, I didn't know if it was a girl or a boy. But...again...I'm on very little sleep right now (so this is not meant to be disrespectful at all).

Go with your gut and pick your favorite. And when you are introducing your newborn son around, whichever name you pick will become the perfect name for him! That's just how it works!

I say go with the name you LOVE. We had a little girl, but if we had a boy his name was going to be Rylan...I had many people share their opinions, positive and negative, but I still love the name, and if we have a boy someday then his name will be Rylan. So, after reading your replies, think about the name that will fit your child and your family the best. Best of luck to you! Babies are blessings from heaven.

I think you should wait until he is born like some of the other moms. I heard a lot of critism on your spelling for Lynken. My name is different and the way it is spelled is odd as well. I often have to correct people and I don't mind at all. I named my son Caiden thinking it was different and am quite upset at how popular it has become. I know somebody that wanted to name their son Tahoe for the location of their honeymoon and also recieved much critism for it and till this day they regret not choosing the name that they really prefered. My advice would be to keep your son's name a "surprise" until he is born and that way nobody will try to pursuade you to choose something that you don't love. Good luck and congatulations on your new little boy!

Okay, this probably isn't much help, but I agree that maybe you should meet him first. Were your daughters' names easy to decide on? If so maybe these aren't quite the right names. Personally I like Spencer though :-) Best wishes tou you and the family!

I LOVE lynken. It is a standout name, which is what I prefer. Seeing that my son's name is Jasper!

Just wait until you see the baby.........he might not look like a lynken or a spencer when you see him!

My husband said he likes lynken...besides its an election year!

Congrats!

Both names are nice. We have a friend named Lincoln and we call him "Linc", which is a cool nickname. Lincoln sounds strong and righteous. Spencer sounds fun and intelligent. (Don't know why, but that's what I get from it.)

I agree with the other moms who say to wait until you see your son. You might be surprised and come up with a completely different name! Jake is AWESOME. That was going to be my son's name but then I had 4 girls. I thought about naming one of them Jake anyway but I didn't want her to end up in therapy!! ;-)

I also agree about keeping the name(s) secret from your family and friends until it's official. I had an awesome name picked out for one of the girls -- wanted to use the name since I was a little girl and gave this name to all my dolls -- but then someone gave me such a hard time that I didn't use it. I still have some regret over that.

Finally, maybe I overthink things, but I always tried to think of how kids can be picked on by other kids because of their names. If they have funny initials, if their name rhymes with or looks like something weird, etc. You know how cruel kids can be. Something did pop into my head with one of the names but I don't want to even say it and put any ideas in your head (unlike a lot of people who did that do me!)

Just go with your gut. You have time to keep "sleeping on it". I know you're asking for everyone's opinion here, but if you know which name you prefer, don't let anyone talk you out of it. You picked beautiful names for your girls so I'm sure you'll be perfectly happy with whatever you name your son!!

I prefer Spencer. It is a traditional spelling and less 'trendy' than Lynken. Some kids like the unusual spelling while others get frustrated having to correct people who mispronounce it, misspell it, and butcher it otherwise. As a teacher I see this sort of thing all the time "It's not LINE-ken, it's LEAN-kin spelled l-y-n-k-e-n".

Wait till you meet him, and bring the baby naming book just in case. With both my kids we had a list, but no name picked yet. Once we saw them we chose something completely different that we had ruled out in the first few months of the pregnancy.

I had THREE SETS of names picked out (first/midde) when my son was born. We never told anyone what names we were considering, for fear someone would hate our chosen name or would strongly dislike someone they knew, with the same name. I always thought it was funny that people had 9 months to think of a name, but didn't have one picked out until their birth. Then, I had my son and I DIDN'T HAVE HIS NAME PICKED OUT! I became one of those people!

I was so happy it worked out that way. I love my son's name - my husband actually held our son, moments after he was born, looked into his face and one of "the names" spilled out of his mouth!

So...protect your two names, being careful who you tell. You may look at your son, in January, and his name may just jump out at you...."Welcome to the world, Lynken, Spencer (Lynken, Jake...etc....)" or whoever he will become! Best of luck to you and your family!

It looks like Lynken is a flemish or belgian name? Personally I think it would play better in another state that isn't the Land of Lincoln - but I wouldn't worry that much about people teasing or having trouble spelling it - a lot of kids have unusual spellings or names now, and teachers are a lot better about it than they were when we were kids.

Spencer is cute, but I wonder if you should make a more definitely masculine choice since your girls have masculine/neutral names. Not that I've met a girl Spencer, but it seems a little softer to me than some boy names. Have you considered Griffin/Griff?

I love the name Lynken and calling him Lynk. People might spell it wrong but that's their problem not your son's. It's a very cool name. My daughters are Keaton and Dara (pronounced like Sara). We have the spelling issues, and pronunciation issues at times, and no, you can never find anything with their name on it in stores, but they love their names and I wouldn't have picked anything else. My vote is Lynken. But I like Spencer too. I know a few Spencers, but no Lynkens!
