My daughter wore a band for 10 weeks. We tried to make a fashion statement with ours. My husband had it painted around Halloween, Thanksgiving and x-mas to reflect the season. My daughter loved the attention and every where we went people commented about other kids they knew that had them. Her head looks so much better, I'm really glad we did it.

My son (who will be five tomorrow) had one starting when he was about 8 months and got it off before he turned one - it worked wonders and we barely even remember he had it now! The time will go fast!
My son had one for 7 months (starting at age 8 months) and we saw alot of improvement in the shape of this head. My son had no problem with it. I'm very thankful that we decided to do this. I truely only received 1 or 2 comments from people and they were never negative. Most people thought we had dresses him up in a football helmet for fun. I also have several people who said their child had it. We decorated it with stickers and put cute sayings on it like, "If you think this is bad your should see the other guy!"
I would stock up on rubbing alcohol because that is what you use to clean it. Make sure to dress your little one lighter because they will be hot with it on. If there is any redness make sure to tell you orthotist right away so they don't get a rash or sore spot. They should give you some corn starch based powder to help with it. Good luck!
My son was 10 months old when he got his doc band and had no problems. Occasionally somebody asked a silly question, but generally it was no big deal. Make sure you clean it every day because it can stink! Putting it outside in the sun helps a lot. Good luck!
My 9 month old son wore one also and we had no issues. Like the others it probably bothered me more in the beginning. Some people did ask questions, but nothing crazy. I'd say embrace it and decorate it with things your son likes or put his name on it. Soon he'll be done with it and his head will look markedly better. Good luck.
Make sure your child needs it. Our ped said it wasnt neccesary because my sons case was mild and from being preemie and sleeping on one side for a while. But a therapist thought it was needed. We listened to our ped and my sons head is fine. He is now 4. His head reshaped itself as he grew and the band wasnt needed. Im sure in some cases it is needed, but i trusted my ped's advice.
My son was about 5 months when he got is DOC band. We went through Cranial Technologies in Oak Brook Terrace and they were fabulous. He wore it 23 hours a day and an hour off to clean it and bathe him. I would do it again in a heartbeat and I've heard they now do a laser technique to measure for it, where as they used to actually make a plaster mold of their head (actually wrapping their head in a cast material!), so it is much easier on the child. He wore it for a few months we went weekly for fittings but they were super quick we were usually out in 10-15 minutes. Wait until you see the results!!! Best of luck!
