Hi! A while ago I went, I looked, I left... absolutely do not get what the big deal is... so you aren't alone. It looked like a big time suck to me.
I've seen a bunch of you who love Pintrest, so I went to check it out, and it just looked overwhelming! Is there an easy way to find things or is it just search and discover? I don't have an account, and it looks like an exclusive club with the invite needed. Is it easy to navigate once you're on? Worth the time?

I love pintrest. I kind of treat it like a magazine.....browse through it when I'm bored or looking for ideas for a craft or recipe. I think it is easy to navigate through, it is broken down into topics such as education, food, fashion, etc. and there is a search button.
Pinterest is a way to collect ideas and inspiration. There are all sorts of areas.
Recipes
Do it Yourself (DYI)
Fashion
Art
Gardening
Pets
Photographs
Humor
You set up your own bulletin boards so you can refer back to them..
For Example. I love Tree Houses. So one of the things I collect on there is photos of amazing Tree houses. I would love at some point to have a piece of property and have the guest houses all be tree houses.
I also decorate Homes for the Christmas Holidays, so I collect ideas and I also have posted a few of our own designs on there.
The reason you have to have an invite, is they are hoping people that join will not be trolls. That they will treat it as a grown up site.
If you want an invite.. message me your email and I will be happy to invite you.
i'm not sure why, but for some reason i get the BEST recipes on there, way better than just googling.
i'm there for the food!

I don't get it either - thought I was the only one.
I do use it, and while I'm not in love with it, I do enjoy it. The basic navigation is the same when you've got an account, but you can choose to follow certain people (your friends, etc) and that is usually where I go. For example, I have a few friends who are very creative, and I LOVE seeing the craft or holiday decorating ideas they pin. I've gotten many good ideas for cute things to do with my kids. Then I have another friend who is into healthy eating. I love seeing what raw, vegan, or gluten-free recipes she has posted. Since I'm new to this "lifestyle", I need all the recipe help I can get!
I don't always stay in the "People You Follow" section though. I'm not the most fashion-forward person. So I enjoy seeing what outfits random people post to use as my "guidebook" when I go shopping. I'll admit, many of the outfits posted are either not my style, or not for my body type, but if I take the time to look through the whole page of pins, I have always found a couple outfits that I LOVE and would be able to wear.
So again, I'm certainly not in love with the site, but I do find it helpful for certain things.
this is my 'flower' to your post....
I don't get it either. All of my friends LOVE it, but I tried it and it just bugs me. I spend enough time on FB and here!
I guess i'm just a browser,
I don't go to pinterest in order to find one specific thing, the way i would go to say, Allrecipies and type in meatloaf. in order to find one specific recipe for dinner tonight.
It's like going to the mall and window shopping, maybe you'll find something you want for dinner tonight on the sidewalk menu board of a resturant or maybe you'll see a fab pink raincoat in the store window or maybe you'll see a guy with the greatest hair walking down the concourse, all of those things can inspire you to maybe make dinner, or sew your own raincoat or cut your boyfriends hair.
i like following blogs but alot of times there are only a few ideas on there that i really respond to, so instead of having to check in each day and see what that one blogger wrote and if it applies to me, I can check pinterest and see what my "friends" have found without wading through 10,000 actual blogs. so my teacher friend finds educational ideas that i can repin and my chef friend finds dinner things and my fitness friend finds excersice tips and my engaged and pregnant friend finds wedding and baby stuff.
i use it two ways, the mall analogy is when i log out and just surf/scroll through the pinterest homepage , the blogger one is more when i log in and repin things my friend have found.
not sure if that helps but that is why i think it is such a fun time suck.
I don't get it either. Not my cup of tea.
YES...worth the time. I have gotten and made some wonderful fun and easy foods for parties, gotten some great, catchy sayings, lots of fun home ideas, and some awesome kid friendly craft ideas! AND, I know where to look when I want to refer to one of these things, instead of thinking "where was that recipe I saw??" LOL!
Well worth it and you can get sucked in and spend lots of time, or not! But I love it!
I gotten a couple of idea from it but other than that it's not rally my cup of tea
I dont get it either. It does nothing for me. I pin stuff when I find good deals, but thats about it.
Havent found anything useful yet!
I'm not the most technically savvy person in the world, but seriously, I find it a pain because it's NOT easy (at least for me) to navigate. I look at one thing, then another, and suddenly I'm lost. I have seen some GREAT ideas and really loved them (some holiday crafty stuff for the kids, the best cake in the world, stuff like that). But the navigation has made me not much of a fan. I don't have hours and hours to just roam around. My friends know how I feel so they'll email me if they want me to look at something they've found. :P
Ditto. At first, because so many people were raving, I thought I was missing something. So I gave it a few more visits and after a while, I concluded it was too much to wade through and very overwhelming. I found that not much on there was original and alot of redundancy with repeat "pins."
There isn't much appeal to me as I have no desire to post someone else's art, photos, recipes etc. and would never put my own original stuff there for obvious reasons (alot is coming out about potential copyright and intellectual property law suits of those who pin photos, etc. without owner's permission). So in the end, I just decided it wasn't all that nor is it worth the potential legal hassle. But that's JMO.
A few weeks ago I posted the same questions on here. After I got on, I spent about 6 hours on it, but it was confusing and I never really got the hang of it. I did end up finding a LOT of cool recipes, but instead of "pinning" them (I still dont get that), I copied and pasted them into word documents so I could print or easily find them later. I haven't been back on there since then.
